the words of St. Paul: “You are strangers and aliens no longer.

You are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God”. (Eph 2:19)

The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,One of the most joyful experiences as a Priest is to Baptize a child. On several occasions, just as I was about to pour the water over the child’s head and say the prayer of Baptism, time would seem to stop. The child would turn their head and look directly at me. They would have this look of wonder and awe, as if they were looking right through me. It would appear as if they could see Jesus Himself Baptizing them and the heavenly angles surrounding them. Through the eyes of such innocence, perhaps they can see plainly all that we can only see with the eyes of faith. At Baptism we see the water being poured over their head and hear the words spoken by the priest. Yet, our faith tells us that something powerful and wonderful has happened. The child, like all of us, after having been Baptized, receives the very gift of God. That is, the Baptized receives the Holy Spirit and the soul is forever marked and claimed for God. The three Theological virtues are given: faith, hope, and love. Original Sin, the sin of Adam and Eve, has been removed and the child becomes a member of the Church, the mystical Body of Christ. The child is now a child of God and can call God “Abba”, “Father”. Today the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. The God we worship is one God, yet Three Divine Persons. They are equal in power, honor, and glory and only distinct in their relationship to one another. God the Father is the First Person. Before time began, the Son, Jesus Christ the Second Person was begotten of the Father, and the Holy Spirit the Third Person proceeded from the Father and the Son.In our Gospel today, the Apostles were commission by the Lord to “Go therefore, and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.” Today, we celebrate one of the core mysteries of our faith, that is, the Blessed Trinity. Our God loves us so much that He desires that everyone be baptized and become disciples so that we can share in the very life of God both here and now, and in eternity. At the end of our Gospel this week, Jesus assures us of this gift, “And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” This weekend, as we approach the altar of the Eucharist, we are reminded of the greatest gift given to us…the very gift of God Himself in the Eucharist. The Eucharist strengthens us and draws us deeper into the love and life of the Blessed Trinity that was given to us at our Baptism. St. Margaret of Scotland, Pray for us, Father Ed

Tony’s MemoirsI see things slowly returning to some degree of normalcy. I hear that soon you’ll be able to attend Mass without a mask and even sit closer together! I think that’s just wonderful. I only ask

that you please continue to be thoughtful, kind and caring to one

another, be sure to cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing and wash your hands often. On another note, it’s that time of year when many go on vacation for some rest and relaxation and fun in the sun. I think I’m going to take some time off for myself as well. I’ll be back soon but, in the meantime, please pray for me as I will pray for you. That reminds me of a joke I heard the other day while on my morning walk.“As the elderly man lay dying in his bed, death’s agony was suddenly pushed aside as he smelled the aroma of his favorite homemade chocolate chip cookies wafting up the stairs. Gathering his remaining strength, he lifted himself from the bed. Leaning against the wall, he slowly made

his way out of the bedroom, and with intense concentration, supported himself down the stairs, gripping the railing with both hands. In labored breath, he leaned against the doorframe, gazing wide-eyed into the kitchen. There, spread upon the newspapers on the kitchen table, were literally HUNDREDS of his favorite chocolate chip cookies!Was I heaven? Or was it one final act of heroic love from his devoted wife, seeing to it that he left this world a happy man? Mustering one great final effort, he threw himself toward the table, landing on his knees in a rumpled posture, one hand on the edge of the table. The aged and withering hand quivering, made its way to a cookie near the edge of the table; feeling the warm soft dough actually made the pain of his bones subside for a moment. His parched lips parted; the wondrous taste of cookies was already in his mouth; seemingly bringing him back to life. He reached for another cookie. What then, was this sudden stinging that caused his hand to recoil? He looked to see his wife, still holding a spatula she has just used to smack his hand. “Stay out of those cookies!’ she said, “They’re for your funeral!” Ciao Ciao...woof woof!

assist me by your powerful intercession, and obtain for me from your Divine Son all spiritual blessings,through JesusChrist, our Lord, so that having

engaged here below your heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of fathers. O St. Joseph, I never weary of

contemplating you, and Jesus asleep in your arms; I dare not approach while he reposes near your heart. Press him close in my name and kiss his fine head for me and ask him to return the kiss when I draw my dying breath.

St. Joseph, patron of departed souls, pray for me! Amen.

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted those living in poverty the most and Catholic

Charities, Diocese of Paterson's 3 Food Pantries (Father English Center, Paterson; Hope House,

Dover; and Partnership for Social Services, Franklin) are giving out more food than ever

before. Most months, Catholic Charities, Diocese of Paterson gives out food to 5,000 - 7,000 people at their 3 food pantries. Through COVID-19 this

number has more than quadrupled as they have helped over 20,000 each month. Bishop Sweeney has authorized a Catholic

Charities Diocesan-wide food collection in all parishes. This year, the drive has gone virtual,

and you can shop online and have items directly shipped to Catholic Charities Food Pantries.

STATEMENT OF THE NEW JERSEY BISHOPS Reinstating the General Obligation to Attend Mass

At this time, due to the observance of public safety protocols and the increase in the availability of vaccines, we have begun a return to some sense of normalcy in various sectors of our society. Therefore, we the Catholic Bishops of New Jersey, are lifting the dispensation of the Sunday and Holy Days Mass obligation beginning on Saturday, June 5, 2021, and Sunday, June 6, 2021, Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. We welcome the Christian faithful to return to the regular participation in the Sunday Eucharist, the source and summit of our Catholic faith (cf. Code of Canon Law canon 1247 and Catechism of the Catholic Church, n. 2180). This obligation does not apply to those who are ill; those who have reason to believe that they were recently exposed to the coronavirus or another serious or contagious illness; those who are confined to their home, a hospital, or nursing facility; or those with serious underlying health conditions. One should consult the local pastor if questions arise about the obligation to attend Mass (canon 87). Finally, safety protocols (such as wearing masks, social distancing, etc.) and liturgical directives (communion in the hand, communion under one species, etc.) in each New Jersey Diocese remains in place until modified or revoked by the respective Diocesan Bishop. La Solemnidad de la Santísima Trinidad

Hermanos y Hermanas en Cristo,Una de las experiencias más alegres como sacerdote es bautizar a un niño. En varias ocasiones, justo cuando estaba a punto de echar el agua sobre la cabeza del niño y decir la oración del bautismo, el tiempo parecería detenerse. El niño giraba la cabeza y me miraba directamente. Tenían una mirada de asombro y maravilla, como si su mirada me traspasara y pudieran ver a Jesús mismo bautizándolos y los ángeles celestiales que les rodean. A través de los ojos de tal inocencia, tal vez puedan ver claramente todo lo que nosotros sólo podemos ver con los ojos de la fe. En el bautismo vemos el agua que derraman sobre su cabeza y escuchamos las palabras pronunciadas por el sacerdote. Sin embargo, nuestra fe nos dice que algo poderoso y maravilloso ha sucedido. El niño, como todos nosotros, después de haber sido bautizado, recibe el don mismo de Dios. Es decir, los bautizados reciben el Espíritu Santo y el alma es marcada y reclamada para Dios. Se dan las tres virtudes teológicas: fe, esperanza y amor. El Pecado Original, el pecado de Adán y Eva, ha sido eliminado y el niño se convierte en miembro de la Iglesia, el cuerpo místico de Cristo. El niño es ahora un hijo de Dios y puede llamar a Dios “Abba”, “Padre”. Hoy la Iglesia celebra la solemnidad de la Santísima Trinidad. El Dios al que adoramos es un Dios, sin embargo, tres Personas Divinas. Son iguales en poder, honor y gloria y sólo distintos en su relación entre sí. Dios padre es la primera persona. Antes de que comenzara el tiempo, el Hijo Jesucristo, la Segunda Persona, engendrado por el Padre, y el Espíritu Santo, la Tercera Persona procede del Padre y del Hijo.En nuestro Evangelio de hoy, el Señor le encargó a los Apóstoles que “vayan por lo tanto y hagan discípulos de todas las naciones bautizándolos en el nombre del Padre, del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo.” Hoy celebramos uno de los misterios fundamentales de nuestra fe, es decir, la Santísima Trinidad. Nuestro Dios nos ama tanto que desea que todos sean bautizados y se conviertan en discípulos para que podamos compartir la vida misma de Dios tanto aquí y ahora, y en la eternidad. Al final de nuestro Evangelio de esta semana, Jesús nos asegura este regalo: “Y he aquí, estoy con vosotros siempre, hasta el fin de la era”.” Este fin de semana, al acercarnos al altar de la Eucaristía, se nos recuerda el mayor regalo que se nos ha dado... el regalo de Dios mismo en la Eucaristía. el otro, asegurándose de cubrirse la nariz y la boca al toser o estornudar y lavarse las manos frecuentemente.Por otro lado, esta es la época del año en que muchos se van de vacaciones para descansar un poco, relajarse y divertirse bajo el sol. Creo que me tomaré un tiempo libre para mí también. Volveré pronto, pero, mientras tanto, por favor oren por mí, que yo estaré orando por ustedes.Por cierto, la otra mañana mientras caminaba, escuché un chistecito que encontré gracioso.“Un anciano ya moribundo, haciendo la agonía de la muerte a un lado, de repente olió el aroma de sus galletas de chocolate favoritas. Con gran esfuerzo, se lanzó hacia la mesa, aterrizando de rodillas con una mano en el borde de la mesa. Con temblor en la mano envejecida y marchita, se dirigió a una galleta cerca del borde de la mesa; sintiendo la masa suave y caliente le hizo que el dolor de sus huesos disminuyera por un momento. Sus labios secos se separaron; el sabor maravilloso de las galletas ya estaba en su boca; como devolviéndole la vida. Buscó otra galleta cuando repentinamente sintió un ardor que hizo que su mano retrocediera. Buscó ver a su esposa, todavía sosteniendo una espátula que ella acaba de usar para pegarle en la mano. “¡No te comas esas galletas!”, dijo, “¡Son para tu funeral!” Ciao Ciao... woof woof!

Oh San José, cuya protección es tan grande, tan fuerte y tan inmediata ante el

trono de Dios, a ti confió todas mis intenciones y

deseos. Ayúdame, San José, con tu poderosa intercesión,a obtener todas las bendiciones espirituales por

intercesión de, tu Hijo adoptivo,Jesucristo Nuestro Señor, de modo que, al confiarme,

aquí en la tierra, a tu poder celestial, te tribute mi agradecimiento y homenaje.

Oh San José, yo nunca me canso de contemplarte con Jesús adormecido en tus

brazos. No me atrevo a acercarme cuando El descansa junto a tu Corazón. Abrázalo en mi

DECLARACIÓN DE LOS OBISPOS DE NUEVA JERSEY Sobre restablecer la obligación general de asistir a Misa

En este momento, debido a la práctica de protocolos de seguridad y a un aumento en la disponibilidad y acceso a las vacunas, hemos iniciado un regreso a un cierto sentido de normalidad en varios sectores de nuestra sociedad. Por consiguiente, nosotros, los Obispos católicos de Nueva Jersey, levantamos la dispensa del precepto dominical y festivo, comenzando el fin de semana del sábado y domingo, 5-6 de junio de 2021, Solemnidad del Cuerpo y la sangre de Cristo (Corpus Christi). Acogemos a los fieles en su regreso a la participación continua de la eucaristía dominical, fuente y culmen de la fe católica (véase Código de derecho canónico, 1247 y Catecismo de la iglesia católica, n. 2180). Esta obligación no aplica para aquellos que estén enfermos; para aquellos que tengan una razón de peso y crean que recientemente estuvieron expuestos al coronavirus o a otra enfermedad seria o contagiosa; para aquellos que estén confinados en sus hogares, en un hospital, u hogar de ancianos; o para aquellos con condiciones serias de salud. Debes consultar con tu párroco local si surgen preguntas sobre la obligación de asistir a Misa (Canon 87). Finalmente, siguen vigentes los protocolos de seguridad (llevar mascarilla, distancia social, etc.) y las directrices litúrgicas (comunión en la mano, comunión bajo una sola especie, etc.) en cada Diócesis de Nueva Jersey, hasta que se modifiquen o revoquen estas directrices por el respectivo Obispo diocesano del área. La pandemia COVID-19 ha impactado más a quienes viven en la pobreza y Caridades Católicas (Catholic Charities), de la Diócesis de Paterson están repartiendo más comida que nunca.La mayoría de los meses Caridades Católicas (Catholic Charities), Diócesis de Paterson da comida a 5,000 – 7,000 personas en sus 3 dispensas de alimentos. A través del COVID-19 este número se ha más que cuadruplicado, ya que han ayudado a más de 20,000 cada mes. El Obispo Sweeney ha autorizado una colección de alimentos para toda la Caridad Católica en todas las parroquias.
