Welcome back to the 3rd term!
MANDELA DAY
Baking cookies for the Security Guards at the Boom
"Mandela Day is a global call to action that celebrates the idea that each individual has the power to transform the world, the ability to make an im-pact. The Mandela Day campaign message is: "Nelson Mandela has fought for social justice for 67 years. We're asking you to start with 67 minutes."
To honour Madiba, our whole high school has gathered yesterday morning to celebrate the life of Nelson Mandela and to make our contribution by knitting squares to make blankets for those in need. Especially on these cold Cape winter days, we are conscious of our ability to bring people warmth through donating scarves and blankets, but also through human connection.
We in AfterSchool all decided to dedicate some
of our time to making soup and cookies to dis-
tribute to hungry people in the area to honour
Mandela Day. It was a great success and much
appreciated. Thank you to the Lucky Bean Shop
for donating the bread.
We would like to introduce the new teacher in the High School, who started this term...
I am Xhavier Taylor, the new Mathematics and Science teacher. I am currently
teaching Class 9 Science main lessons and Mathematics to Class 10 and 11.
I graduated from Stellenbosch in 2011 with a BEd degree with majors Mathematics
and Science. I’ve furthered my studies through the University of Western Cape, with
a focus on Physics. I taught Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Physical Sciences for
5 years at Steenberg High School. I then completed 2 academic years at a British In-
ternational School in Qatar teaching Physics, Double Science and General Sciences.
What attracted me to Stellenbosch Waldorf was the approach to developing young minds at this school. I
look forward to helping my learners learn how to think and not what to think, in an effort to develop
minds that will change the world through science.

Dear Parents, During the third term of each year, you are required to confirm your child/ren's registration for the forth-coming year via completion of the attached re-registration form. This information is required for budg-eting purposes. Please indicate updated address and contact information on the form, if any of your details have changed. If you have indicated that your child is not returning in 2020, please note that according to school policy, we require one month's written notice of your intention to deregister. Your notice must please be submitted in writing to the Administrator via email: [email protected] by Friday 01st November 2019. We require completed forms to be submitted to Althea at the school office by Friday, 30th August 2019 either in hard copy or via email: [email protected]. Parents who wish to apply for fee assistance for 2020 are invited to collect a form from the school recep-tion. These forms need to be completed in full and returned together with ALL supporting documentation to the Financial Administrator, also by Friday, 30th August 2019. It is the expectation of the Trustees that parents who receive financial assistance “give back” by partici-pating in the various groups and activities at the Stellenbosch Waldorf School. Participation in and around the school is taken very seriously when considering applications. Applicants will be advised of the outcome of their application by the end of Term 4 2019. Thank you for your cooperation. Kind Regards, SWS Administration
