Welcome!Back to School Night 2017
● Please use the paper on the table to write your child a note
A note from Mrs. Payette….
DismissalIf your child will be going home in a way that is different than usual, please:
1. Send a note to school in your child’s home folder
OR
2. Call the office so that the message can be relayed to me
Birthdays● Birthdays are celebrated at
Frost with non-food items only
● Alternative Ideas: distributing a small gift such as pencils or stickers, bringing in a book to share
*Birthday party invitations may only be distributed in school if the whole class is being invited. Thank you!
SnackWe have snack every afternoon. Each day, please help your child select a healthy
nut- free snack. It is also helpful if you pack the snack separately from lunch so your child does not get confused.
GymWe have gym every Monday and Friday.
Please remind your child to
wear appropriate footwear.
Outerwear
We are lucky enough to have air conditioning in our classroom! However, the room can get a bit chilly. Please consider sending your child to school with a zip- up sweatshirt or something that can easily be put on.
Electronics
Electronics and trading cards are not permitted
in school unless they are being used for a
class reward.
Home FolderPlease check your child’s home folder each night for important notices and
homework

Reader’s Workshop● Strong reading decoding, comprehension,
and fluency● Each workshop begins with a mini-lesson
that introduces a new reading strategy. Students then apply this strategy during independent and partner reading.
● As students read, I confer with them individually or work with a small guided reading group to practice targeted skills
● Children shop from the classroom library weekly for “just right books” that your child can read independently. Please make sure that these books get brought back to school each day as they are used during reading time.
Reading at Home
● In 1st grade we encourage at least 15 minutes of reading every night● Periodically throughout the year, your child will be asked to complete a
reading log or a writing assignment● The reading log will change throughout the year to reflect the strategies we
are working on in class● New logs will be sent home Monday’s and will be due Friday’s● Any “just right” books can be used for the log● If you lose the log, it will be posted on our website
