Welcome to Our Parish

Registering in a parish is a declaration of your desire to be a part of a Catholic community and a commitment to the life of the parish family. Being a registered parishion-er makes things easier when it is time for infant baptism, school registration, weddings, funerals, affidavits and when asked to be a baptismal or confirmation sponsor. We can only do this if you are a registered, active and contributing member in the parish. Please call, visit the office or go online to our website to register.

World Mission Sunday October 20-21

We will be visited by Deacon Joe and Rita Domond, parishioners at Our Lady of the Assumption in Claremont.

They continue to honor the memory of their son Jeff, who was tragically killed in a car accident at the young age of 22 in 2004. The Domonds, along with other volunteers, bring hope to the people of Haiti via missionary work done through a non-profit foundation they established in Jeff’s name in 2005.

The Jeff Cherubin Domond Foundation provides assis-tance to the people of Haiti, the Domond’s homeland (both Joe and Rita immigrated to the United States in the 1970s). Since its foundation, the organization has spon-sored numerous medical mission expeditions and estab-lished education facilities for those often forgotten children and citizens who live in the rural area of Marbial, in southeastern Haiti.

Joe Domond grew up in Marbial. Through the foundation, the Do-monds are giving back.

Join us as we explore our Blessed Mother’s ‘yes’ to the Angel Gabriel’s news that she was chosen by God—the Annunciation. She responds, “Behold the Lord’s hand-maid. May it happen to me according to your word.” Mary’s life would be surrounded by mystery, joys, and sufferings, not unlike ours today. Her ‘yes’ is a light for us. On this retreat, Fr. Peter Devereux, LC, will lead us to an encounter with Jesus Christ through guided medita-tions, talks on scripture, encyclicals, and the lives of the saints, helping us to discover and follow the mission God has for each of us—a call to holiness as daughters of God.

COST* $250 per person (room & board for single or shared occupancy)

Cardinal Manning Center Dinner

There's nothing

more inspiring than to see people who walk the talk. Last night, we witnessed two guest volunteers at our Cardinal Manning Center dinner. Our pastor, Father Mike, tossed a giant green salad to feed 70, cut up roasted chickens, maneuvered food trays as if he was a seasoned waiter--even up and down stairs since the elevator was out of service--dished out desserts to each table, and most impressively, he sat with the men like Jesus would sit with his disciples! Then there was Sister Sheila, who at 80 years old, was like a sous chef of the green salad--chopping romaine lettuce, dicing tomatoes, following my instructions without a fuss, and also sitting down with the men to share conversation and a meal, just like Jesus.

It's sad to see the homeless in the street, but it's good to know that the Cardinal Manning Center is there to help a few men, and it's inspiring to be with the other ten St. Vincent de Paul members who were able to come out on a Thursday night to help prepare the meal for the men. Seeing people in great need, I am called to share more than I receive. By this I am encouraged to keep giving.

If you would like to know more about joining our Confer-ence, or if you know someone who needs assistance please call our hotline: (626) 657-0836.

If you would like to make a monetary donation to be used in helping those in need, please use the Assumption SSVdP tan enve-lope provided in the pew.

Remember, 100% of your donation serves the poor!

DID YOU KNOW? Mutual Respect is Key for Friendships Your child will make many friends throughout his lifetime. As children grow, their interests change and develop, and they meet many new people along the way. But as children make new friends, mutual respect should be the guiding principle of these relationships. Parents, talk to your children about how they should feel in a friendship — true friends care about each other and respect each other’s thoughts and feelings and personal boundaries. If your child isn’t receiving respect from her friends, she is learning to accept less than she deserves in a relationship. And if she is the one who doesn’t give respect to her friends, she is learning emotional power. For more information on teaching your children about true friendships, email [email protected].
