LOCAL BEACHES

BEACHES

Cornish beaches are some of the best in the world and many of them are just a short trip from Waterside. Whether you’re looking to hit the surf, build the best sandcastle or explore the drama and beauty of the Cornish coastline, it’s all right here for you.

PERRANPORTH BEACH

Perranporth has a huge, two mile long surfing beach and further along the coast you also have Holywell Bay, Porth Joke and the huge sandy expanse of Crantock Beach.

PAR SANDS BEACH

Par Sands near Fowey is a shallow, safe beach perfect for families. Backed by dunes and with easy access from a large car park, it can get quite busy in high season.

LANTIC BAY

A short hike from Polruan, over the estuary from Fowey, is the stunning Lantic bay, one of Cornwall’s most idyllic places which is kept pristine thanks to its owners the National Trust. Not far from civilisation, it feels as remote as you can get in this part of the county and is an amazing place to simply unwind. Swimming should be done with care as currents can be strong.

Driving Distance: 20 miles

Driving Distance: 12 miles

Driving Distance: 24 miles

Cornwall has eight of the best beaches in the UK, according to the Sunday Times.

FISTRAL BEACH

On the western side of Newquay is the world-famous Fistral Beach, a surfer’s paradise backed by high cliffs and sand dunes and the perfect place to catch a wave. All the big UK surf competitions take place here so time it right and you might get to see the pros in action!

Driving Distance: 16 miles

MAWGAN PORTH BEACH

Four miles north of Newquay, the village of Mawgan Porth is home to a broad sandy beach which is perfect for families. Less crowded than Newquay, it nonetheless gets its share of Atlantic swell and also has great rockpools to explore with net and bucket.

LOCAL BEACHES

BEACHES

Award-winning, clean, family-friendly and home to the best surf in the UK – the best Cornish beaches are just a short drive from us here at Waterside.

POLZEATH BEACH

Polzeath near Wadebridge has an award-winning beach which is famous for both its consistent slow-breaking waves and sparkling water quality – it’s one of only 8 beaches in the whole country to be awarded a Blue Flag for its waters.

Driving Distance: 17 miles

A good day at the beach ends with sandy toes and a sunkissed nose.

POLRIDMOUTH COVE

Between Gribbin Head and Fowey is the twin cove of Polridmouth. Access is via a wooded track and the coves have a leafy, untouched feel about them. Given their location and access the coves are rarely busy. At low tide there are 2 distinct beaches separated by a low rocky headland. The western cove is accessed directly from the farm track and backs onto the coast path.

PORTHCURNO BEACH

Set among granite cliffs, Porthcurno beach is part of a wider bay that opens up at low tide to reveal a curve of golden sand that stretches from the Minack Theatre to the Logan Rock, site of an Iron Age cliff castle. Located just around the corner from Land’s End, Porthcurno has long been the place where telecommunications cables arrive from America.

LOCAL ACTIVITIES

ON THE LAND

Whether you like to explore every inch of terrain or flash through it at high speed, Cornwall is home to an amazing range of activities at the right pace for you.

For more information, please ask a member of staff at reception.

MOUNTAIN BIKING

Waterside is one of the closest holiday resorts to purpose built mountain bike trails at Cardinham Woods, near Bodmin. These fun yet challenging trails wind up and down hill through trees and tight turns, making it an exciting activity for riders of all abilities. This is now Cornwall’s premier mountain biking venue, but there are plenty of other rugged trails to explore. For guided rides we recommend Mobius Bike Trails.

GUIDED WALKS

Cornwall has some of the best walking countryside in the UK, whether you fancy moorland, valley, estuary or coastal. You will see many fantastic views along the way and see all kinds of points of interest, including scenic coves, historic sites and pretty fishing villages. Grab a map and head out on the trails. Or hook up with our friends at Tour Cornwall who will be happy to take you on guided walks to the best parts of Cornwall.

TREESURFING

A high ropes course through the trees in the Tamar Valley offers a ‘treesurfing’ experience you will never forget. This challenging activity will test your wits and head for heights as you make your way around the canopy course. You can also combine this activity with a tree jump or zip wire ride back to the ground. This activity is available exclusively through Tamar Trails Centre, about 35 minutes from Waterside Resort.

ROCK CLIMBING

Go rock climbing in Cornwall. This activity is perfect for small groups of friends or family members who want to do a fun, challenging activity together. There are great beginner climbing routes very close to the Waterside resort. We recommend rock climbing lessons and guided climbs with Cornish Rock Tors.

BEACH RANGER

This is a kids club where children are given a fun, educational guided exploration of the beach and rock pools under the guidance of a beach safety and marine wildlife expert. This activity takes place at Fistral Beach, exclusively through Newquay Activity Centre.

There’s no place like Cornwall.

Page 18: WELCOME [] › wp-content › ... · twists on modern European cuisine. To book, please contact a member of staff at reception. WATERWAY CAFE Location: Marked ‘E’ on Map Perfect

3534

CANOEING

Canoeing on the Tamar River is a tranquil and relaxing activity which is perfect to do with friends or family. Under the supervision of a guide you will paddle open-top Canadian Canoes along the river which cuts through the stunning, tree-lined Tamar Valley. For Canoeing in this location, we recommend the Tamar Trails Centre, which is only a 35-minute drive from Waterside Resort.

COASTEERING

If you’re feeling adventurous you can throw yourself in at the deep end with a coasteering trip along the North Cornwall coast. Coasteering involves swimming, climbing and jumping your way along the coast in and out of rockpools, gullies, caves and whirlpools. All tremendous fun, with trips to suit all ages and abilities from 8yrs upwards. For exciting coasteering adventures check out Newquay Activity Centre.

LOCAL ACTIVITIES

IN THE WATER

Cornwall is famous for its surf scene but getting out on your board is just the beginning. Take to the open sea, explore the intricate details of the rugged coast or explore the inland waterways – it’s up to you!

For more information, please ask a member of staff at reception.

SEA KAYAKING

Go sea kayaking in Cornwall. Take a guided paddle along the North Cornwall coast with Cornish Rock Tors. A sea kayaking trip includes all equipment and instruction, using sit-on-top kayaks to explore coves, caves and marine wildlife. It’s an awesome way to see the coastline from the water.

BODYBOARDING

Bodyboarding is a great way to try wave riding for the first time in Cornwall. It’s very similar to surfing but is easier to pick up and is great for families with small kids. We recommend bodyboarding lessons at Fistral Beach in Newquay with Newquay Activity Centre.

SURFING

Learn to surf at one of the many fine surfing beaches on Cornwall’s north coast. This is one of the must-do activities to experience while in Cornwall. Surf schools in the area cater for all ages and abilities, and many can also arrange private family lessons or one-to-one tuition. We recommend surf lessons with the Rip Curl English Surf School, part of Newquay Activity Centre, based at Fistral Beach in Newquay - the surfing capital of Europe.

Live in the sunshine, swim in the sea, drink the wild air.

The fresh water takes approx. 16 hours to achieve full temperature, please report any issues relating to the hot tub immediately to Reception so that our maintenance team can assist.

Please remember to shower before using your Hot Tub. Failure to do this results in a build-up of dirt in the water filters and eventually a residue on the surface of the water. To clean this requires the maintenance team to fully drain your Hot Tub and replace the water, which will obviously mean that you will be unable to use it again for at least 16 hours.

Please also remember to replace the cover of your Hot Tub whenever it is not in use. This enables the heating element to preserve it’s heat and therefore it will take less time to reach full temperature when you do want to use it.

• To switch on the underwater air jets, press the JETS button once, press again to switch them off. Turn the dials on the top of the Hot Tub to adjust flow and direction.

• To switch on the underwater lights, press the LIGHT button once, press again to switch them off.

• Please do not adjust the temperature as this is pre-programmed and trying to adjust this without instructions may result in your hot tub being unintentionally switched to Economy Mode which will reduce the temperature quite rapidly.

• The LED display shows the current water temperature. This will steadily increase on the first day of use to the optimum temperature of 36ºC and will fluctuate marginally during use.

• If your Hot Tub needs to be topped up during your stay, the introduction of fresh cold water will of course mean that the overall temperature will decrease slightly, but this is usually no more than 1° - 2°C.

On the day of departure, we would be grateful if you could refrain from using your Hot Tub after 9am. This is so that the maintenance team can begin the draining of your Hot Tub as early as possible for change-over.

We hope you enjoy your stay. If you experience any problems at all, please do not hesitate to contact our Reception Team who will be happy to assist you on 01208 831808 Option 1.
