WelcomeWelcome to Pasco School District, an exciting and

innovative place for students to learn and for employees to work. Our approach to educating

all students is to nurture and support the whole child. Our classrooms are filled with inquisitive young minds and outstanding teachers and support staff who help students maximize their potential.

Pasco High School Principal Raúl Sital says it best: “It’s really a K-12 model. Our high schools get the credit for graduating students, but it starts in kindergarten… our model is to know and serve all students.”

A history of pride in education 130 Years of Pasco Pride

The first Pasco School Board meeting minutes date back to 1885, when

students attended a one-room schoolhouse in Ainsworth, just east of present-day Pasco.

In 2015, we mark the 130-year tradition of academics, diversity, and innovation in the Pasco School District.

Together, we have come so far. From our early beginnings providing innovative high school classes before high school was even legalized in the state, to being among the first districts to end de-facto segregation in schools, the Pasco School District has always taken pride—Pasco Pride—in providing the best education to all students. This sentiment was no more apparent than in 2009, when we opened our sec-ond comprehensive high school, Chiawana High School. The deep-rooted pride and sense of tradition nurtured inside the walls of Pasco High School now flourish at CHS and across the community.

We are uniquePasco School District is the

heart and centerpiece of one of the fastest-growing

communities in the nation.

Since 2000, student enrollment has increased by more than 8,100 students to 17,016—an increse of 92%, or an average of nearly 600 students a year, enough students to open a new school annually.

With 20 campuses, Pasco School District is the largest employer in Franklin County with nearly 2,000 caring employees who together

provide outstanding opportunities for every student to be successful.

Our newest school, Rosalind Franklin STEM Elementary, opened in August 2014, and three more new schools will open in Pasco next year.

Pasco School District

We are located at the historic confluence of the Snake and Columbia

Rivers in the southeastern region of Washington state. The city of Pasco and the neighboring communities of Kennewick and Richland make up the Tri-Cities, the fifth largest metropolitan area in the state. With an abundance of quality schools, health care facilities, faith communities, retail/professional opportunities, recreational areas, and predominant sunshine, Pasco is a place where people live and raise families in a safe, forward-thinking, active environment.

In 2010, Kiplinger rated the Tri-Cities among the top 10 best places to raise a family, and CNN/Money ranked it one of the top 10 best bets for gains in housing value. Farmers Insurance named the Tri-Cities the “Most Secure” mid-sized city in the nation in 2011.

The Tri-Cities are conveniently located among the major population centers of the Pacific Northwest. Seattle and Portland are less than a four hour drive, and Spokane is just two hours away.

Vibrant community

An exciting place to live, work, and play

Page 11: Welcome [] · • Enterprise Week annual business simulation event ... • Teachers On Special Assignment in Guided Language Acquisition Design, mathematics, science, visual and performing

An agriculture, recreation, and tourism hub, the Tri-Cities area boasts an average of more than

300 days of sunshine and less than seven inches of rain per year.

The region is home to world class wineries, several semi professional sports teams, a bevy of golf courses, the famous Hanford Reach scenic area, an extensive rivertrail system, a multitude of visual and performing arts opportunities, and the annual Water Follies hydroplane races.

A commitment to STEM educationOur STEM Initiative

All schools in Pasco have science, technology, engineering, and math, or STEM, initiatives of some type underway. Franklin STEM Elementary, which opened in August 2014, is the District’s first STEM elementary

school. Another STEM elementary and a STEM early learning center will open in August 2015 as will the permament home of Delta High School, a STEM high school serving students from Pasco, Kennewick, and Richland school districts.

Our STEM schools are purposefully designed to meet the projected needs of the 21st century workforce and to prepare all students to solve STEM problems, innovate new technologies, network with professional people around the globe, and to make informed decisions as members of an ever-shrinking world. Through STEM education, students apply the principles of mathematics and science learned through hands-on and minds-on activities to the real world around them. STEM education fosters fun with a purpose, reasoning skills, curiosity, perseverance, and inquisitiveness.

We will ignite in our students and staff a passion for learning, a commitment to innovative thinking, and a

desire to transform the global community.
