PRAYER TO OUR LADY, HEALTH OF THE SICK, DURING THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC
O Mary,
You shine continuously on our journey as a sign of salvation and hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who, at the Cross, united with Jesus’ pain, keeping your faith firm.
You, Salvation of the Roman people, know what we need, and we trust that you will provide for those needs so that, as at Cana of Galilee, joy and celebration may return after this moment of trial.
Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform ourselves to the will of the Father and to do what Jesus tells us. He who took our suffering upon Himself, and burdened Himself with our sorrows to bring us, through the Cross, to the joy of Resurrection. Amen.
We seek refuge under your protection, O Holy Mother of God. Do not despise our pleas — we who are put to the test —and deliver us from every danger. O glorious and blessed Virgin.

We hope you are all staying safe and healthy during this uncertain time. We are very aware of the extra stress, fear, and danger that “shelter in place” puts on families with domestic violence. We wanted to remind you that our Domestic Violence Outreach Ministry is still here for you at this time.

with someone at: https://www.thehotline.org/what-is-live-chat/ Call your local police
or 911, if needed Under the “shelter in

Notes from Deacon Stuart
As I write this (5/18) we should have been celebrating the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick at St Cletus.
But of course we find ourselves in the strangest and most dangerous times many of us have ever faced.
Locked down, isolated, bombarded by COVID-19 statistics, social distancing, remote learning and friendships, virtual/ televised masses- Strange times indeed.
But we keep the faith, abide by the rules, pray for those affected, those who are on the front lines, all those who work to make this bearable ( food store employees, delivery drivers, postal workers, Uber / taxi / train / bus drivers etc. etc. )
Pray for this to end and to my ministers in the MOC & CCM PLEASE KEEP CALLING FELLOW MINISTERS AS I ASKED 4 WEEKS AGO - particularly those who live on their own.
As I make well being calls to homebound parishioners (who live often with this social isolation as a way of life) and others, I’m often asked “How is Marlene?”
Well she does have chronic back pain which limits her mobility and her arm will be in a cast for another 6 weeks (resulting from a fall in late Feb) BUT her lungs are healthy but she is strictly confined to home. I do the shopping and apart from getting the wrong tomatoes and bruised apples :) I’ve done OK. Thank you for your concern and prayers for her.
Stat home, stay safe, stay well and when are all together again we’ll have a great celebration, albeit at a social distance I suspect for some time.
Blessings, Deacon Stuart & Marlene

Alpha Online - All Are Welcome!
You, your friends, family, neighbors are invited to join us for Alpha Online starting next week. All are welcome - no matter the faith background or where you live - we can all gather online!
A few of our parishes who have experience offering Alpha in person have come together with the Office for Evangelization and Missionary Discipleship to provide this wonderful online experience for anyone who is interested. If you aren't familiar, Alpha is designed to help bring us closer to God in a fun, safe, friendly, judgement-free environment. There is no commitment. It is free.
We have two options: Tuesday nights from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. starting April 14th and Wednesday mornings from 10:00 -11:30 a.m. starting April 15th. Each session will include a gathering time when we hope to laugh a bit, a short film on a faith topic, and then a small group conversation all via Zoom. Some topics include: Who Is Jesus?, How Can I Have Faith?, What Does the Holy Spirit Do?, and Why and How Do I Pray?
Please register for Alpha Online here. Share this link with anyone you think might be interested. Just ask. You never know where a person's heart is right now. Once registered, we will send a Zoom link directly to the provided email. This will ensure privacy and security of all guests.
We also ask you to pray for this Alpha Online experience, that the Holy Spirit will help our guests to grow into a deeper relationship with our Risen Lord.
If you have any questions, please reach out to [email protected].
Today as we begin this most holy Triduum, we hope that God is close to you and that you are able to find ways to celebrate Easter in whatever meaningful way possible.
Blessings, Evangelization Team

WHAT’S HAPPING IN RELIGIOUS EDUCATION?
During this time of pandemic, the Religious Education Office has been sending out Family Lessons to do at home. If you have not been receiving the lessons, please email Barb Campbell at [email protected].
This weekend would normally be our final Religious Education class of the year. We would be excited to celebrate the Sacrament of Eucharist for the first time with our second grade and special sacraments children. While First Communions are not cancelled, they are postponed until we can safely resume our weekly gatherings at the table of the Lord. Please keep our young children who are continuing to prepare for this sacrament at home in your prayers in the coming weeks.
The RE Office will continue to send out Family Lessons to engage in at home with your children. Keep those photos and fun stories coming in! We are excited to share them with our parish family!
Today, April 26th, is also the feast day of St. Cletus! Not much is known about St. Cletus. He was our third Pope and held the Seat of St. Peter for 12 years. Sometimes people called St. Cletus by other names, such as Anacletus or Anencletus. This is similar to how we use nicknames for people today (for example, using “Jimmy” or “James”
interchangeably). St. Cletus was martyred for the faith, and was buried near St. Peter in Rome after his death. Right around the beginning of his papacy, the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum were destroyed and buried after the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius (79 A.D.) Remember to say a prayer to St. Cletus today, and ask him to pray for all of the parishioners of our parish family!

GOD’S PLAN
Saint Peter speaks to us twice today. In the first reading, we hear an excerpt from his sermon on Pentecost; in the second, part of his first letter. Once a frightened, uneducated fisherman who often said just the wrong thing, now Peter is speaking what he knows to be true. Everything Jesus had said now makes sense. His death and rising were all part of God’s plan, and our faith and hope can be centered on God.
Today’s Gospel tells the story of Jesus’ walk to Emmaus with two of the disciples. Frightened, sad, and confused, the two of them don’t recognize Jesus, who tells them what we heard Peter say above: All this had to happen as part of God’s plan. In the end, these disciples recognize Jesus as we are to recognize him—in the breaking of the bread. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
TODAY’S READINGS
First Reading — God has raised the crucified Jesus, who now pours forth the Holy Spirit upon us (Acts 2:14, 22-33). Psalm — Lord, you will show us the path of life (Psalm 16). Second Reading — Our faith and hope are in God, who raised Jesus from the dead (1 Peter 1:17-21). Gospel — Through his words and in the breaking of the bread, the risen Christ made himself known to two disciples on their way to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-35). SAINT CATHERINE OF SIENA (1347-1380)
April 29
Imagine the pope receiving a young woman still in her twenties who addresses him as “my sweet Christ on earth,” then orders: “Get back to Rome where you belong!” Amazingly, Gregory XI complied! Yet this was but one astonishing incident in the extraordinary life of Catherine of Siena, a truly unique medieval woman. Youngest of twenty-five children, Catherine refused marriage and became a Dominican Tertiary at sixteen, cloistering herself at home in contemplative prayer, austere penances, and mystical experiences, culminating in “spiritual espousal” to Christ. Then, incarnating the Dominican ideal of “passing on to others the fruits of contemplation,” Catherine left her solitude to care for the poor, nurse the sick, comfort the dying, and bury the dead. Increasingly renowned for converting souls and healing bodies, she was sought after to broker peace during civil wars and Church schisms. All this, and like Jesus, whom she called “my Divine Spouse,” she died at thirty-three! Four hundred letters and her spiritual classic The Dialogue inspired Paul VI to name her, together with Teresa of Ávila, the first women Doctors of the Church. —Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
STAY WITH US, LORD
Walk with us, Lord, along the road of resurrection! Explain for us, so slow to believe, the things that Scripture says of you. Break the bread of the Eucharist with us whenever we share our lives with our brothers and sisters. Stay with us each time night approaches and the daylight fades in our hearts! —From Come, Lord Jesus by Lucien Deiss, CSSp, copyright © 1976, 1981, Lucien Deiss. Published by World Library Publications. p.168

MUSIC MINISTRY
As music has now been added to our on-line Sunday masses, I’ve heard the question: “Who is that cantor?”
Easter Sunday our Cantor was Michael Eardley. He, his wife Jane and their son Isaac moved into our parish last August. He soon contacted me and was added to the regular cantor rotation in December, 2019. He regularly “appears” at the 8:00 a.m. mass. His background includes cantoring at his previous parish in Chicago and participated in the Glee Club at Notre Dame University.
On April 19th our cantor was Mike McComiskey. Husband of long-time parishioner Helen (Acke) McComiskey, he has been a member of the bass section of our Chancel Choir since 2013 and has been on the regular cantor rotation for the past two years. His somewhat “retiring personality” but thoughtful musical as well as liturgical observations have made him an invaluable addition to our music ministry.
In future weeks (for as long as we continue this current state of affairs!) you will be seeing other cantors who regularly minister at our parish.
By the way… now is time to be thinking of how you can become a part of the St. Cletus Music Ministry! There are many vocal as well as instrumental opportunities available for everyone ages 8 (3rd grade) and up! Give me a call to discuss: 708-710-0644

WORD OF LIFE
“From your first moments of existence, you had all the DNA that would determine your sex, facial features, physique, and the color of your skin, hair, and eyes. At 24 days, your heart began beating. By 8 weeks, all your organs were present, and your unique fingerprints were forming. Ultrasounds show that by 18 weeks, you could swim, somersault, suck your thumb,
and even cover your ears if you heard loud music.” USCCB Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities

BOOK DISCUSSION
On April 14th the first Zoom book discussion was held. Eleven participants were able to log in and enjoy visiting with each other and discussing Where the Crawdads Sing
by Delia Owens.
The next book discussion will be at 7 P.M. June 9th.
In the likely event that we will still be following guidelines for sheltering at home, this will also be a Zoom discussion. We will discuss The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver.
For those who want to look ahead, in August we will discuss The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides; and in October Olive Again by Elizabeth Strout.
