WELCOME
The 2013-14 academic year was a period of successful new initiatives forthe IU Southeast Career Development Center.
First Year Students – Every student in a First Year Seminar class wasoffered the opportunity to take an assessment to match students withpossible academic majors and/or career choices based on each student’sindividual interests and skills.
Resources – Our center upgraded to a new software this year to offerconstituents more resources. Student users are now able to view more jobpostings, job search tools and guides for document creation. Employersare able to post positions to all IU regional campuses through our websiteand have access to statewide IU candidates.
Interns – During the 2013-14 academic year we connected students and employers in 195 internship experiences. Seventy-eight percent of our interns elected to receive academic credit for these experiences and 59 percent of the internships were paid with an overall income of $577,878.
The Career Development Center’s continued objective is to assist studentsand alumni in one primary goal: To help students/graduates realizethe return on their educational investment through the attainment of their desired post-graduate goal.
We thank all of our employer partners for their desire to collaborate with usto identify qualified IU Southeast candidates and we look forward to playing an increased role in communicating this region’s recruiting needs to the educators on our campus.
We also thank the dedicated and passionate IU Southeast faculty and staff who partner with us to fulfill the vision statement of Indiana University Southeast, “… shape the future of our region by transforming good students into great leaders, one graduate at a time.”
Thank you again for your partnership and commitment to keeping ourstudents and graduates first!
Sincerely,
The Career Development Team

RETENTION
In Fall 2013-14, students who participated in the Major Exploration Workshop were retained at a rate five percent higher than all other first-year students. This result may cause us to look at implementing a modified version of the Major Exploration Workshop. This also takes into account the Career Development Center’s new focus on working in the First Year Seminar classes.
Fall Advising continues to be an integral part of the retention effort for exploratory students. It increased by five percent from the workshop to fall advising.
For this year, we saw great gains in S100. This can perhaps be attributed to our decision to slightly modify our goal (clarity around school vs. clarity around major/career). We also extended our class time to an hour and 15 minutes (up from 50 minutes). This also proved to be extremely helpful.
