ABOUT THIS GUIDE

This booklet has been developed by the Taber & District Community Adult Learning Association to assist residents and residents new to Taber and area to access local services available for a place to sleep, something to eat, someone to talk to, a place to relax, if you want to see a doctor, lawyer or counsellor, or if you simply want to get to know your community.

ABOUT TABER, ALBERTA

Taber is a town in southern Alberta, Canada within the Municipal District of Taber. It is located approximately 51 km (32 mi) east of the City of Lethbridge at the intersection of Highway 3 and Highway 36. The population of the Town of Taber according to its 2015 municipal census is 8,380.

The Town of Taber and the Municipal District of Taber, together, are a vibrant, growing, and welcoming community. The citizens, elected officials, and staff of the Town of Taber and Municipal District of Taber honour our pioneering past, and respect and enjoy the community of today while utilizing our vision and skills to lay the groundwork for an exciting tomorrow.

Taber is famous for its corn due to the large amounts of sunshine the area receives. It is therefore known as the Corn Capital of Canada and celebrates with an annual "Cornfest" in the last week of August.

The Municipal District of Taber extends its welcome to you as you begin your new life in our community. This area is blessed with abundant natural resources including vibrant agricultural and resource sectors, however our greatest strength is the people.

We are a wonderfully diverse community. Of our 7600 citizens, almost half speak two or more languages, and we welcome the strength that comes from that diversity.

Many within our community can trace their roots back to the early settlers who made their way here. They arrived with the same desires and hopes that have brought you here: to find a safe and welcoming community, to find opportunities for education and recreation, to feel safe and secure, and to find opportunity and prosperity.

TRANSPORTATION

Taber does not have a public bus system. Local taxi services are available, and for those who use a wheelchair or are disabled, there is a Handi-Bus service. Bicycles are a great way to get around town when the weather permits. If you choose to bike, remember helmets are mandatory in the province for anyone under 18 years of age.

TABER TRAILS The Town of Taber now sports two designated sections of pathways for pedestrians who enjoy walking, jogging and running, roller blading, riding bikes as their preferred choice of recreation. These pathways

interconnect with local streets and sidewalks to extend your walking experience. First Designated Section: The first leg of the trail begins at the Cornstalk located near the Aquafun Centre and follows along the perimeter of the Taber Golf Course to Highway #864. From there, it continues on to 50th Avenue where it joins existing sidewalks.
