    it takes all of us working together for the good of our community.It takes families to make a community; it takes a community to raise our children;

    Meet Brandyn McElroyIn January, Brandyn McElroy began renting an apartment in a building in south-central Weinland Park that hisgrandfather has owned for 12 years. Having spent a lot of time in and around the neighborhood over those 12years, he has been impressed by the positive changes in WP.

    He loves the vibrancy of his new home: people are always outside enjoying the neighborhood; its very walkable andeverything is conveniently located; and there is always activity in the park. When he tells friends where he stays,they are sometimes taken aback, but he pushes back. Every community in the Short North has had its dark era,he says, and then they go through their renaissance; this is our time now.

    He hopes to use his skills in community involvement to serve WP. He has represented the Far South ColumbusArea Commission on the mayors Coalition for a Non -Violent Columbus since its inception in 2010 and is now itschair. One of his proudest projects was getting a spray park built in Indian Mound; it recently opened after three

    years of hard work. He was also active in the painting of the tree mural at Hudson and North Fourth Streets.

    This summer he hopes to get to know more people in WP and figure out how to become a voice for the community whether neighbor-to- neighbor or as a representative to the city, county, or state. He wants to make sure were seenin the positive light we deserve and that our needs are heard by City Hall.

    Hed love to discover a central location in WP where people regularly gather to casually interact and relax. And hewants to become a fixture in the neighborhood. For now, he encourages everyone to like him on Facebook at fa-cebook.com/Brandyn.McElroy and to check out nonviolentcolumbus.com.
