The answer is working with robotics, electronics, com- puters and telecommunication systems. Last week I was fortunate to listen to a Mechatronics Engineer about the future of cobot (collaborative robots) use in Asia and Australia. A cobot essentially means humans working with robots together to complete tasks. He indicated that in China alone there are 500,000 cobots being used. Next year there will be 1 million and within 4 years there will be 5 million. Considering we are heavily connected to the Asian econ- omy Australia is likely to also dramatically increase the number of cobots being re- quired in a range of industries. The problem is this…It would seem that there will be plenty of jobs for Mechatron- ic Engineers in the future, yet no Austral- ians to fill the positions. China alone has tens of thousands of students completing Mechatronic Engineer degrees. During the presentation I kept wondering how we can address this issue? It perhaps relates back to my initial question about what we know about engineering. We need to raise the profile of STEM (Sci - ence, Technology, Engineering and Math- ematics) related learning within schools. Last week we ran a ‘STEM-tastic’ day for our students to experience a range of STEM-related activities. We are performing well internationally in robotics and for the first time in 2020, we now offer Design and Technology for Year 11 and 12 students. I believe we are providing opportunities for our potential Engineers of the future, how- ever we can do more and will continue to encourage STEM in the future. Message from CEO

Assalamu Alaikum

If I were to ask you “What does a doctor do in their job?” you would be able to answer this. What about a teacher, me-chanic, farmer or police officer? All of us could generally explain these roles.

What about an engineer, or more specifi-cally, a Mechatronics Engineer? The answer is working with robotics, electronics, com-puters and telecommunication systems.

Last week I was fortunate to listen to a Mechatronics Engineer about the future of cobot (collaborative robots) use in Asia and Australia. A cobot essentially means

humans working with robots together to complete tasks.

He indicated that in China alone there are 500,000 cobots being used. Next year there will be 1 million and within 4 years there will be 5 million. Considering we are heavily connected to the Asian econ-omy Australia is likely to also dramatically increase the number of cobots being re-quired in a range of industries. The problem is this…It would seem that there will be plenty of jobs for Mechatron-ic Engineers in the future, yet no Austral-ians to fill the positions. China alone has tens of thousands of students completing Mechatronic Engineer degrees.

During the presentation I kept wondering how we can address this issue? It perhaps relates back to my initial question about what we know about engineering. We need to raise the profile of STEM (Sci-ence, Technology, Engineering and Math-ematics) related learning within schools.

Last week we ran a ‘STEM-tastic’ day for our students to experience a range of STEM-related activities. Assalam Alaykom,

This has been an amazing term with many opportunities for growth and development. Year 2 have been busy learning and making discoveries by using their problem-solving skills. In Science they have been exploring and experimenting with mixtures. They have been enjoying a variety of hands on experiments. They have been applying their learning knowl-edge and sharing it with their peers on Class Dojo.

In PDH they have been learning about the human body and the importance of their internal organs. They have learnt how to look after themselves and en-sure their bodies remain healthy.

Message fromJunior School

Overall, Year 2 have had a productive term and the hard work shall contin-ue into the next term In Shaa Allah. This term during HSIE lessons there has been a push to incorporate Vis-ible Thinking Routines which works towards the students analysing ma-terials and have them work towards high order thinking. We are also building up our artefact collection in History and building our Geograph-ical tools in Geography. There are many exciting ventures planned for HSIE as we continue to evolve and grow for the future.

Literacy, Numeracy and Science Week

In week 7, the Junior School participated in a wide range of engaging, informative and innovative activities as part of our school wide Literacy, Numeracy and Science Week event.

Students joyfully paraded their costumes during our high-ly anticipated annual Book Character Parade. This year’s theme My Secret Strength brought out the most interesting characters from stories with various strengths including cour-age, love and empathy. Additionally, for literacy, we had a Spelling Bee competition, a writing competition and book reading in the library.

For mathematics, the students absolutely loved the Maths Trails activities, which had students exploring the campus

to resolve maths challenges. Along with this, students used their knowledge and understanding of shapes and geometry to create artworks.

The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathe-matics) were one of the biggest highlights of the week for students. Students used everyday materials to solve STEM challenges by applying their science and maths skills.

Overall, the week was a wonderful success culminating with a special morning assembly where we celebrated the achieve-ments of competition winners. We are very grateful to the committee who continue to elevate the schooling experi-ence for our deserving students.

Kindergarten has had an exciting two weeks. During week 7, Kin-dergarten participated in the Book parade. Kindergarten also had the opportunity to make teddy bear bridges, to test how many ted-dies the bridge could hold.

The annual Quran Recitation competition will be held this Satur-day 14 September as part of the activities in our Open Day. This year we had a large number of interest in the Quran Competition from students in Junior and Senior School. Last week members of our Islamic Studies department conducted the stage 1 competition for all applicants and have selected the finalists to compete in the Quran Competition Finals this Saturday. A panel of guest judges will determine the winners for Junior School and Senior School divi-sions. Come in and enjoy the amazing recitation talent of the Unity Grammar students 10am – 11am for the Junior School Division and 11am – 12noon for the Senior School Division.

In Mathematics, Year 1 have been exploring the properties of 2 Dimensional shapes including pentagons, octagons, quadrilaterals and hexagons.

PDH VALUESAssalamu Alaikum Parents and Guardians,

Year 6 students prepared an engaging presentation on the topic of Communications.

Communication is the act of transferring information from one place, person or group to another. Over the years communication has changed dramatically from messages being delivered personally to having everything at the touch of our finger tips. In today’s society, we communicate in many different ways: verbally, non-verbally and through social media.

Some effective ways to communicate with others according to the Sunnah is to always keep a smile on your face, pay attention to your tone and the volume of your voice. You may shake hands and start with a greeting of peace. Abdulmouem Omari, Zanieb Khalak, Shahtaz Sultana, Sumaya Dannaoui

Year 10 Road Safety Excursion

Year 10 students attended the Be Street Smart Road Safety Program on Wednesday 11th September at Qudos Bank Arena, Australia’s largest road safety program. In attendance were 7000 other school students from schools across NSW. This was perhaps the most in-sightful and thought provoking excursion the students have attended, with a live crash scenario and speakers who have been involved in traumatic scenarios themselves. With the knowledge and experience gained from this excursion and the PDHPE road safety unit of work, our students are now equipped with the skills necessary to protect themselves and others on the road.

Year 10 Careers Workshop

Year 10 students are in the final stages of selecting subjects into Year 11. Mr Ajam completed careers workshops to help assist stu-dents in making informed and correct subject selections. The school has also purchased a program called ‘Job Jump’ that helps students learn more about different jobs, universities, degrees and subject selections.
