Using Facebook for Social Networking

Most of us have a personal Facebook Timeline that we use to connect with our friends and family. And we’d like to keep it that way – personal.

Facebook would like you to keep your business and personal matters separate on their site as well. That’s why they provided the Facebook Business Page.


Facebook Timeline – Your Information


Facebook Timeline – Your Privacy Settings

When you first get the Timeline, all of your posts are listed, chronologically. Depending on your past privacy settings, you may want to go through your posts and change the availability of some of your old posts:



Your main privacy settings only apply to new posts.

IMPORTANT: To set privacy settings for your entire Timeline, go to the Privacy Setting Page:

– https://www.facebook.com/settings/?tab=privacy – Or click on Privacy Settings from the Arrow Drop-Down

You can control: – How You Connect – How Tags Work – Apps & Websites – Limit the Audience for Past Posts – Blocked People & Apps



Go through each of these –

Make sure you are aware of what information you are sharing.


The News Feed

Clicking on Home brings you to your News Feed.

This is where you will see the status updates from your Friends and Pages.

It’s a customized feed just for you.


Your Wall

You can access your Wall by clicking on your name in the upper right hand corner.

This is where you can view and edit your information.

This is where people can send you a public message or ‘Write on Your Wall’.


Posting, Commenting, Liking • You can Post an update to your Personal Timeline. – Depending on your privacy and posting settings, your whole friends list or just a select group can see your post.

• You can Comment on a Friend’s Timeline or a Page.

• You can Like a picture or post on a Timeline or Page.

What’s the difference between my Timeline and a Business/Fan Page?

Your Timeline is for Personal use.

It is associated with your email address, has your Friends List, and contains your status updates.

You log into Facebook and are directed to your Timeline.


What’s the difference between my Profile and a Business/Fan Page?

Fan Pages: - Are created from your Timeline Login.

- Have Fans, not Friends.

- Allow you to conduct business on Facebook without breaking the Terms and Conditions.

- Keeps your Personal Timeline personal.

- Posts are from the page, not you.
