THANKYOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT
The weather in Melbourne can be quite changeable and we often experience four seasons in the one day. Thank
you to everyone for being so supportive last Thursday and Friday with the extra care needed to avoid the falling trees, branches etc. It was pleasing to see people following directions in an
orderly manner.
2020 SPECIALIST PROGRAMS
We are pleased to announce to our school community the specialist programs we will be providing
for our students in 2020.
We will have specialist teachers taking PE, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Digital Learning, LOTE - Italian, for all of our Prep - Year 6 students, Library for the Prep – Year 2 and the
Kitchen Garden program for Years 3-6.
After trying unsuccessfully for a number of years to find sufficient Auslan teachers to cover the whole school we are pleased to announce that we will be able to provide a new experience for the students with Italian being taught at all year levels. We look forward to seeing and hearing new vocabulary around our school in 2020. We will provide a detailed
list of our 2020 staff in the first newsletter of 2020.
2020 PREP INFORMATION SESSION
Our 2020 Prep parents are invited to attend an Information Session run by the Prep teachers on Monday 9th December at 7pm in the hall. Please note students are not required at this meeting. Grade and room allocations will be displayed at this meeting, so that you know where to take your child for the whole
school transition day on the Tuesday.
END OF YEAR REPORTS
Report will be sent via Compass on Monday 9th December after 3:45pm. Parents should download these and save them to their computer. Please note we have continued to review and improve our reporting process based on parent feedback around the new Maths reporting format. English reports will also be the same as Maths with the progression of
skills demonstrated.
WHOLE TRANSITION DAY
This will be held on Tuesday 10th December where your child will spend the day in their new classroom and where possible with their 2020 teacher. This is an opportunity for students and staff to begin to build important relationships and processes as a
lead in to the new school year.
We understand that at this time of the year some students and parents can be feeling anxious about the
new arrangements. YOU can assist your child by encouraging resilience and being positive about the new year and new friendship opportunities that may arise.
If your child will not be attending EVPS in 2020 then they do not need to attend school on this day. Many of our Year 6 students will be attending their secondary school as this is the state wide Year 7 transition day
for government schools.
3 WAY CONFERENCES
These will be held on Wednesday 11th December.
Students are only required at school for their 3 Way Conference time. We invite you to join the whole school
community for a picnic on this day.
YEAR 6 DEBATING
A highlight of this week was to hear our Year 6 students debating sophisticated world issues.
Bravo!

5/6 SPORT PROGRAM 2019 Year 5-6 Hoop Basketball Regional Finals Our Future Stars Basketball team will attend the State Finals tomorrow Friday November 29th in Dandenong. The
address is 270 Stud Road, Dandenong from 9.30pm-3.00pm. All parents and friends are most welcome to come
along and support our EVPS team.
REGIONAL CRICKET TOURNAMENT Our Regional boys and girls cricket teams who played off recently represented our school proudly. The boys team managed to make the final but unfortunately went down to St Mary’s of Whittlesea. It was a great day and everyone enjoyed it.
WATER BOTTLE DECORATING Almost 60% of boys and 40% of girls have more than one high sugar drink every day. These include flavoured mineral water, soft drinks, juice, cordial and some sports drinks. Sweet drinks are linked to tooth decay and are a significant factor for overweight and obesity.
Decorating plain water bottles can encourage their usage and help increase water consumption. Make sure you use paints that will not run when wet. Children can be as
creative as they like! This activity is perfect for times of boredom or keeping kids entertained on weekends.

WATER WATER WATER!!!
Our bodies are made up of 50% to 60% water, and water that is lost through breathing, sweat, and urine needs to be replaced. This is especially important in hot weather.
How much water should we drink?
As well as drinking water and other drinks (juice, tea), we get much of the water that we need from food. For example many fruits and vegetables are up to 90% water. How much water we need to drink depends on several things including the weather, what we are doing and how healthy we are.
For healthy children and adults, thirst is a good guide to when and how much they need to drink.
If children are able to get drinks of water easily, whenever they want to, they will drink enough. If children are not able to get their own drinks of water at school or kindergarten, give them a bottle of tap water to take.
Trying to get a child to drink water when he or she is not thirsty, can lead to unneeded battles.
More drinks will be needed if people are exercising.
Water is much better than juices and soft drinks.
The high sugar content in these drinks can damage teeth and lead to extra weight gain.
Juices and soft drinks can interfere with children’s appetite so they may not get all the nutrients they need.
Limit fruit juice to one small glass each day with a meal.
Tea, coffee, sport or 'energy' drinks and alcohol should not be given to children.
Save cordial and soft drinks for special occasions like parties or birthdays.
Making water more attractive to children
Try putting ice in it [some ice block trays come with interesting shapes].
Float a slice of lemon in the jug of water, or some fruit slices such as banana or strawberries.
Keep a jug of cold tap water in the fridge (but not everyone likes really cold water).
Let your children see that their parents enjoy drinking water!

Epping Road Upgrade Community Update
We’re adding an extra lane between Craigieburn Road East and Memorial Av-enue, installing new traffic lights at Park Street, upgrading intersections and building better walking and cycling connections.
When
We expect to award a contract in early 2020 with construction to start on the Northern Roads Upgrade
from mid-to-late 2020. We’ll know more about the exact timing of the Epping Road Upgrade early next
year.
Traffic flow improvements
Due to the high levels of traffic along Epping Road, we’ll install new traffic lights, upgrade existing in-
tersections and install additional lanes to improve traffic flow.
Local access
During consultation in late 2018, we heard from residents that they were concerned about access
changes to side streets and local businesses.
As a result of your feedback, we’ve updated the proposed design to include a new U-turn between
Taggerty Grove and Fletcher Street, as well as moving the proposed U-turn closer to Jordi Place to im-
prove access to side streets and local businesses. We’ll also increase the right turning lane length to
boost capacity for those heading south along Epping Road and turning right onto O’Herns Road.
Have a question?
For more information visit the Epping Road Upgrade project page or contact us on the details below.
Regards
The project team Epping Road Upgrade
