Jesus’ way has neverbeen very popular in ourworld even among Chris-tians. Following Him isnot an easy matter.

Jesus said, “You haveheard that it was said,‘An eye for an eye and atooth for a tooth.’ But Isay to you, Do not resistan evildoer. But if anyonestrikes you on the rightcheek, turn the otheralso,” (Matthew 5:38-39), but the world says,“We’ll get even.”

Jesus said, “Do to oth-ers as you would havethem do to you.” (Luke6:31), but the worldsays, “Get them beforethey get you.”

Jesus said, “Put yoursword back into its place;for all who take the swordwill perish by the sword.”(Matthew 26:52), butthe world says, “Thesword rules.”

Will Jesus’ way work? Ihave a difficult time see-ing how it will work. Butto tell you the truth, “I’venever really tried it.”

Melt Your Troubles Away

There’s a car under here somewhere! A surprise winter storm

can bury your “wheels” and keep you from getting where you need

to go, at least until you shovel your way out or the sun melts the

snow away.

We can get buried under life’s problems until it looks as if we

won’t be able to dig our way out. Some days our troubles keep

piling up on us until we feel like we’re immobilized under a foot of

snow and can’t go anywhere. We’re enslaved by our

circumstances.

The warmth and love of God can melt our troubles away.

Have faith. Paul says in his letter to the Galatians: “Stand firm,

then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of

slavery…. But by faith we eagerly await through the Spirit the

righteousness for which we hope.” (Galations 5:1b, 5) Visit your

house of worship this week and let God’s light shine on you.
