 NATURAL GAS...THE RIGHT CHOICE

Dear Friends of the Paulding Exempted Vil-lage Schools,THANK YOU FOR Your Support of ourSchools! We recently held our Senior Citi-zen’s Breakfast at PEVS and I was very

proud of how well our students performedfor our more experienced citizens. We hadmany compliments from our guests and I am

very thankful for their attendance and ourstudents’ efforts to make things great forthem. I reminded everyone that our futuredepends on our current young people todaytaking over for us tomorrow. I want to say a

big “Thank You” to our senior citizens whosupport PEVS on a daily basis. The District has many exciting things goingon in each of our buildings. We have cap-tured ways to do some ‘giving back’ to thosethat are less fortunate in each of our build-ings with our canned food drives, coat andmitten collections, and even monetary collec-tions as well. It is truly rewarding to see thespirit of giving during the holidays. We be-lieve that our mission is to "Do what is bestfor kids". I am very proud of our students, staff, and administration for going above and

beyond this holiday season! We continue to work hard to make sure ourstudents and staff get what they need and stillstay very prudent with our finances. Mr. Var-ner is working on energy efficiency with ourstaff, and with the Christmas break upon us,he has sent out a “Classroom Shutdown List”for all of us to follow simple ideas to help ussave energy here at PEVS.Paulding Elementary and Oakwood Elemen-tary are currently the recipients of the 21 st Century Grant and are offering our Elemen-tary kids in grades K-4 After School pro-graming and opportunities they would other-wise not get. Oakwood Elementary-Jennifer ManzHappy New Year from Oakwood Elemen-tary! I am typing this article from a veryquiet office after students and staff have gonehome to begin Christmas break; but I canstill feel remnants of the Holiday excitementthat has been building all month – programs, gifts for parents, crafts, treats, gingerbreadhouses… – all the makings of the very bestschool memories! We will be ending the first semester andstarting the second in the middle of January. The halfway point in the school year and the

beginning of a new calendar year is a greattime for our students to review the progressthey have made so far this year and to setnew academic goals for the remainder of theschool year. Perseverance is our character

trait of focus for January, and the statementwe use to define it is “I always give my besteffort no matter how difficult the tasks arefor me.” I think this is a fitting trait to bringto our students’ attention at this time of yearas they work toward the goals they set, eventhough the material becomes more challeng-ing.As always, our first order of business atOakwood Elementary is to focus on academ-ics.
