Dear Parents, Tomorrow we celebrate the immense contribution to the success of the School of our wider community of Old Brentwoods, who return to the School from all over the world for Old Brentwoods Day.

The day begins with tours of the School, followed by a Chapel Service and the Annual General Meeting of the Society of Old Brentwoods in Old Big School. After a buffet lunch in the Bean Academic Centre Tuck Shop, many sporting fixtures between the School’s teams and Old Brentwoods Teams take place, before we all gather for tea in the Dining Halls to celebrate successes and thank Old Brentwoods for their continued support of the School. As usual I am looking forward to welcoming as many Old Brentwoods back as possible for what should be a great day.

This year's competition takes place on Wednesday 20th September, starting at 6.15pm. in the Courage Hall. It is our tradition to invite distinguished professional musicians to adjudicate the House Music Competition, previous adjudicators have included Nick Ingman (Shakespeare in Love), Ladies in Lavender/Last of the Summer Wine composer Nigel Hess, the late Ron Goodwin (633 Squadron, The Battle of Britain), Rick Wakeman, the renowned keyboard player and Mark Armstrong the much acclaimed jazz trumpeter. It gives us great pleasure this year to welcome Conductor, Performer and Music-Educator Robin Browning. Since making his début with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at London’s Barbican, Robin has conducted the Hallé, the English Northern Philharmonia, the Northern Sinfonia, the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Ensemble Intercontemporain, the St. Petersburg Festival Orchestra and the Estonian National Youth Orchestra. Robin is passionately committed to the training of younger musicians and has guest-conducted orchestras at both Trinity Laban Conservatoire and Guildhall School of Music and works regularly with young conductors at the University of Southampton. Sport Equestrian We are delighted to report that Claudia Moore was once again selected to represent England at the Welsh Home Pony International over the summer. Riding “Tullineaskey Fear Deas” she jumped a double clear as the Under 14 England Team secured the Silver Medal. Most recently she did the double at the Scope Festival winning the 138cm pony Waddesdon Stud Championship with Tullineaskey Fear Deas and then went on to win the Pony Of the Year Elite Début Championship riding Delflip. She has 3 ponies that have qualified for the finals at the Horse Of the Year Show which takes place at the NEC Birmingham in October. As such, we look forward to reporting on Claudia’s progress. Football We are delighted to report that Mille Stacey has been invited to England trials after some sterling performances against the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool. We are also pleased to report that she has captained Essex Under 14s as she continues to make fine progress. On Wednesday, the Seniors faced Alleyn's in a traditionally strong fixture block. The First XI lost 2-0 despite dominating possession. Thomas Takar and Oliver Catterall were unlucky not to score early on before Alleyn's scored from two set-pieces. The Second XI lost 2-1 despite another strong performance. Cameron Allen scored for Brentwood in a game which Bradley Marshall was voted Man of the Match following an excellent performance. The Third XI drew 2-2 in an end to end contest. Brentwood led 2-0 before a fight back from Alleyn's ensured parity. Tom Adams was awarded Man of the Match after an outstanding showing in goal. The Fourth XI won 2-1 with goals from Harrison Ballard and Ed Penney. James Barton put another fine performance in goal to ensure Brentwood gained the win. The Fifth XI lost 3-1 in another tightly-contested match in which Captain, George Flashman put in a strong performance. The Sixth XI

enjoyed its first outing of the season. Despite an excellent game, the team lost 6-3. Luke Hayes scored an outstanding strike from 60 yards while Oliver Overton showed his talent throughout the game setting up super sub Josh Wood who scored a well-timed volley. The Under 13, 15 and First XI teams have particularly important games next week playing in the Independent and English Schools’ Football Association Cups. We wish them well. Golf On Tuesday, the golf team produced an excellent performance to beat Epsom College by three matches to nil at Walton Heath GC. There were wins for the pairings of Edward Brown & Harry Burr, Ashley Chalmers & Maddie Merritt and Joe Defries & Tom Stoffer. Go Karting We are pleased to report that Christian Lilley raced in Italy this past weekend. He was competing as a guest in the last round of the Italian National BirelART Championship at Lignano, about an hour northeast of Venice. Following some excellent driving we are thrilled to report that Christian won the final. Hockey The Under 15A team started its season with an impressive 5-1 win over St Edmund's College. Emma Philpot and Georgia Underhill scored a brace of goals with Orissa Uppal netting the fifth. Ciara Donnelly put in an outstanding performance in midfield and was awarded Player of the Match for her efforts. The Under 14A team started the season against St Edmund’s and battled out to win 2-1. As it was the team's first competitive experience of 11 a-side hockey the girls were all working hard on some basic team play principles. The team learned a lot from this and made some drastic improvements in its Tuesday fixture versus Sevenoaks Under 15B team. Ellie Marshall and Hannah Maylon-Davies were solid in defensive and the goals were scored by Rubyann-Ireson Hughes and Saachi Patel, in a 2-1 win. The Under 14B team enjoyed an exciting fixture against the same opponents and put in a respectable display. Anisa Sarwar was in impressive form and the team was unlucky to lose 2-0. Netball We are excited to announce that Hannah Knightbridge has been selected for the Junior Hertfordshire Mavericks Academy while Skye Lynch has been selected to represent both the Under 17 Hertfordshire Mavericks and Surrey Storm netball academies. The Under 12A-D netball teams competed in their first fixture on Thursday, with over 40 girls participating in a friendly fixture against Brentwood Ursuline. The Under 12As immediately took hold of the game and asserted authority by dominating possession in both the attacking and defending third. With excellent feeds around the attacking circle from Ruby Chart, Erin Young and Libby McLaughlan, Brentwood took an early lead from the hard working shooters, Isabella Colville, Isabelle Sawyer, Valencia Danby and Cynthia Asigbue. The Under 12B team started the match with some excellent attacking play which resulted in Kayla Watt, Ellie Foley and Rhia Mehta, scoring many fine goals to take the lead. Meanwhile, defensively, Brentwood performed well to prevent Ursuline's shooting opportunities, conceding only two goals. Brentwood won 26-2 with Maddie Austin voted Player of the Match. The Under 12C team won its first game of the season 3-2, in a closely-fought match. Determination was demonstrated by all members of the team in what was an exciting and enjoyable first game. The girls maintained consistently strong footwork throughout and the attack worked hard to keep possession of the ball in their goal end. Particular effort was displayed by goalkeeper, Dhia Nafis and Mobolu Olowoyeye. The Under 12D team won 12-2 in its victory against Ursuline. Super wing-defence play from Khairah Francis-Shayek and excellent shooting by Grace Kingaby and Isabella Alder secured an outstanding win. Rugby Last Saturday, Brentwood played the annual block fixture against Bancroft’s School winning all of their

games. The Under 13B team started its season where it finished off last year with a convincing 90-0 victory. Chino Okafor could not have wished for a better début as he scored five tries. Freddie Wise and Finlay Harris also contributed with a hat-trick of tries each. The other tries were scored by James Pridmore (2) Seun Fashesin –Souza (2) Oliver Curtis, Ako Enaw and Angus Robertson. The Under 13 A team enjoyed the majority of possession in the first half but Bancroft's scored first. Ovie Jeyibo struck twice before Bancroft’s replied on the counter attack to take the score to 10-10 at the half-time break. Fantastic backline hands and enterprising attacking play saw Brentwood pull away in the second half, with tries from Max Barton and Luke Richards, as well as a hat-trick for Ovie to complete a 10-25 final score. The Under 14A team won 33-12 with débutant Archie Walker starring as he scored four tries of his own. The forwards gave the backline an excellent platform with Alex Mead and Ashley Duley doing some fantastic work at the breakdown to give the backline good front foot ball. Henry Deacon and Rohan Van Der Merwe used the possession very well to keep Bancroft’s on the back foot. Both Under 15 teams also recorded excellent wins with the A team winning 34-28 after running in six tries. Point scorers were Obinna Nkwocha (3), Ryan Fedi, Ethan Cooper, Adam Richards and Michael Gurin who was successful with two conversations. The Under 15B team was in the ascendancy during the first half controlling possession and defending well and were leading 15-0 at half-time, in the second half Brentwood relaxed and leaked two tries to bring Bancroft’s to 15-10. The boys doubled their efforts and ran in two further tries, which were duly converted and Brentwood deservedly won 29-15. Scorers were Edward Scott (2) Romane Presaud, Glebs Ribzamens and Joe Gunning with Henry Sessions converting two. The First XV started its season with a hard-fought 18-15 victory. Brentwood’s young team scored first with a penalty from Max Buckley, before Bancroft’s score after some weak defence. Max narrowed the gap to 7-6 after another penalty followed by a unconverted try from Cameron Lindsey just before half-time. Harry Millsom scored to stretch the lead to 18-7 before Bancroft’s hauled themselves to within 3 points. The Brentwood defence stood firm to hold on for an 18-15 victory.
