  • TODAY …

A very warm WELCOME to all who are worshipping with us -- especially if you are visiting Napier or at the Cathedral for the first time.

Welcome also to Stephen Jacobi preaching at the 8am & 10am Cathedral services today; and, at 5pm this after-noon, welcome to Kristy Boardman and Tessa Le Guern (to be commissioned by Bishop David as the Diocesan 2013 Youth Interns) and all your supporters at-tending the Diocesan Youth Interns Com-missioning service.

    People News …

We remember those who are unwell, re-ceiving treatment in hospital or at home, or awaiting surgery - we pray for Fiona and Graeme (and Matthew and Hannah), Diane, Judith, Milly Ronberg back in Starship Hospital, and Mya (great-grandaughter of Elisabeth Paterson, born very early this week).

We also remember 1931 earthquake survivors, and those who worked to re-build our communities

    Congratulations …

… to Shirley McKeever, who celebrated her 90

    th birthday yesterday (2

    nd Feb.)

… to Bishop Murray Mills (1990 conse-crated Bishop of Waiapu) and the Rev’d Margaret Thompson (1997, Deacon, Flaxmere) celebrating ordination anniver-saries on the Feast Day of the Presenta-tion of Jesus in the Temple, 2

    nd February,

    (also known as Candlemas).

Environment-Justice-Peace Network First meeting for 2013 is this afternoon at 4.00 pm in the Choir Room to plan

    the year ahead.

Note: as the Parish Consultation is to be held on Sunday 3 March, an alternative date

for EJP will be discussed this afternoon.

Contacts: Murray Mills 835-0884, or Jenny Baker 835-3862.

    Association of Anglican Women

    (this replaces a February meeting).

Next meeting will be on Wednesday 6th March when Norma Haskell will be the

    guest speaker. All welcome.

    Contact Elisabeth, ph 835-4609.

    Evening Fellowship

Next Meeting on Monday 11th February at 7.30 pm in St Paul’s Lounge, Tennyson St.

PALM CROSSES Lent is nearly here … next week bring back last year’s palm crosses for burning into ashes for Ash Wednesday (13

    th Feb.)

The Cathedral Lenten Study Group begins on Thursday 14th February, 7.30 pm. The group will meet weekly for six sessions, the first meeting at the Cathedral (main door en-try). Feel free to join in any of the informal sessions. We are using an attractive study prepared for Bishop Victoria for her Christchurch diocese,

“THE PRAYING LIFE – Through Lent with Luke.”

Each week looks at a passage from St Luke’s Gospel, inviting discussion, reflection and some time to pray together. The Praying Life may be obtained from the Parish Office for $5. If you cannot get to the group, the study book is also ideal for per-sonal use. Contact: Murray Mills, 835-0884.

  • ROSTERS for March/April/May 2013 (including Easter services) are now being prepared. Please advise Jennifer Harris or the Parish Office of any dates when you are NOT available.

    ORGAN RESTORATION UP-DATE

The work on the organ continues … follow progress with photos on the Cathedral’s Facebook page, also on the SIOC Facebook page. The new organ will be dedicated on Thursday 4

    th April at 7.30pm; first

    concert Friday 5th

April, 8pm, by Oliver Latry (Titular Organist at Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris).

    Dean Helen’s Farewell Services

    Sunday 24 February, 10.00am and 5.00 pm

On Sunday 24 February there will be one morning service at the Cathedral, at 10am with the Choir and Choristers (no 8am Cathedral or 11am Ormond Chapel services). The focus of this service will be on the Parish farewelling our Vicar, and during this service Dean Helen will return to the Ca-thedral family the symbols she was given at her installation, as the task of ministry in this place re-mains with the parish.

Then at 5pm the Cathedral Parish will host a Farewell Service for the Diocese and community (including invited guests). This service will focus on the Diocese and community farewelling the Dean of the Cathedral. The service will be followed by dinner for everyone at the Quayside Res-taurant, Ahuriri. Tickets for the dinner are $35 each and will be available from the Cathedral Parish Office in February.

Dean Helen will preach at both services.

    VESTRY NEWS

Vestry has met twice in January and …

    continued to plan for the transition be-tween deans, including working on the parish profile which will be given to candidates;

    met with Colleen Kaye, the Diocesan Registrar, to discuss finances and oth-er transition matters;

heard a presentation from Noel Evans, Opus Engineer, on the Opus team’s earthquake assessment of the cathe-dral building. This is a very complex matter and further work is to be done before any definitive assessment can be made.

The Communications committee are working on all the signage around the cathedral and will bring recommenda-tions to the next Vestry meeting.

Noted with grateful thanks the many years of ministry by Norma Haskell as Sacristan (the person who looks after the communion linen and altar cloths). Shirley Hosking has taken over from Norma.

VANUATU Welcome back to our ni Vanuatu parish-ioners, here to work in our orchards. If anyone can help this year with driving groups to and from Hastings to church please let Dorothy Brooker know. Also we are planning another mission trip to Vanuatu 10-20 July 2013. This time the trip will be to Vila and Santo and Am-bae. With the extra flights in Vanuatu the airfares will be approx. $1200 with ac-commodation approx. $800 per person. People need to be able to cope with a varying standard of accommodation and transport. Five of the 2011 group are keen to return with another five spots available in the group. Dorothy Brooker will lead the team. If you think you might be interested let her know and there will be a meeting for interested people to hear more.
