TODAY …
A very warm WELCOME to all who are worshipping with us -- especially if you are visiting Napier or at the Cathedral for the first time.
A reminder that there are no mid-week services in the Cathedral during January; and there is no 10.00am service at the Cathedral today, Sunday, 27 January, as we are combining with the other Napier Inner City Churches for the annual Civic service, this year hosted by Trinity Meth-odist Church, Clive Square, commenc-ing at 10.30am. The theme is “Let our children live”. In partnership with the Na-pier Family Centre (who celebrate their 30
th anniversary this year); and repre-
sentatives of the Napier City Council and the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council. All welcome.
A special VESTRY MEETING, to be held on Wednesday 30 January, 7.30 pm, with Opus Engineers to consider their “earthquake” report for the Cathedral.
ROSTERS for March/April/May 2013 (including Easter services) will soon be prepared. Please advise Jennifer Harris or the Parish Office of any dates when you are NOT available.
ORGAN RESTORATION UP-DATE
Welcome to the workers from the South Island Organ Company who have been hard at work in the Cathe-dral for the past two weeks, and will be here for some time yet. Photos are on the Cathedral’s Face-book page, also onto the SIOC Face-book page, so you have an oppor-tunity to follow progress as the organ console and pipes are being installed.
The new organ will be dedicated on Thursday 4
th April at 7.30pm; first
concert Friday 5th
April, 8pm, by Oliver Latry (Titular Organist at Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris).
People News …
We remember those who are unwell, re-ceiving treatment in hospital or at home, or awaiting surgery - we pray for Fiona and Graeme (and Matthew and Hannah), Diane, and Judith.
Bishop David Rice is delighted to an-nounce that the Rev’d Petra Barber has been appointed as the Vicar-elect for Gis-borne Parish. Petra is currently serving as Vicar of Dunstan Parish in the Dunedin Diocese. Her installation service will be at Holy Trinity Church, Gisborne, on Sunday 10 February at 4.00 pm.
Environment-Justice-Peace Network First meeting for 2013 is next Sunday, 3 February at 4.00 pm in the Parish
Lounge to plan the year.
Note: as the Parish Consultation is to be held on Sunday 3 March, an alternative date for EJP will be discussed at the planning
meeting.
Contacts: Murray Mills 835-0884, or Jenny Baker 835-3862.
Association of Anglican Women Afternoon Fellowship
No meeting on usual first Wednesday of month (Waitangi Day); instead members are invited to attend the Ash Wednesday service
on Wednesday 13th February, 10.00am, at St Augustine’s, Latham St,
(this replaces a February meeting).
Next meeting will be on Wednesday 6th March when Norma Haskell will be the
guest speaker. All welcome. Contact Elisabeth, ph 835-4609.
Cathedral Parish Consultation
On Sunday 3rd March, I look forward to joining you for the Parish Consultation meeting. Firstly to preach at your morning Eucharist services and then to lead a Parish Consultation meeting on behalf of the Bishop. We will meet (after a sub-stantial morning tea) between 12 noon and 3.00pm (approximately). I do want to encourage all parishioners to attend this important meeting. This consultation process is designed to yield as much information as possible within the 2½ - 3 hour event. It is also an opportunity for everyone's voice to be heard and every contribution will be respected.
Before you come to the meeting, I invite you to consider the following, being aware of the parish’s role as Cathedral and parish church as well as its significant role in the city …
1. What are the present mission and ministry goals of the parish – stat-ed and un-stated? What is the parish “really about” at the moment?
2. What are the things you most value about your parish: the strengths of the parish?
3. What aspects of ministry in the parish need developing or strength-ening further?
4. What completely new areas of local mission could be explored in the future?
5. What are the key attributes / qualities that you seek in a new Dean?
The other essential part of this process requires the electing of three parish nominators to join the People’s Warden, the four regional nominators and the Bishop in seeking an appointment. These people must have attended the consul-tation day to be available for nomination, and be on the Parish’s Electoral Roll. If there are more than three people nominated we will hold a paper vote.
I will hold you in my prayers as we together prepare for this meeting.
Rev’d Adrienne Bruce (Bishop’s Chaplain in the Bay of Plenty)
Dean Helen’s Farewell Services
Sunday 24 February, 10.00am and 5.00 pm
On Sunday 24 February there will be one morning service at the Cathedral, at 10am with the Choir and Choristers (no 8am Cathedral or 11am Ormond Chapel services). The focus of this service will be on the Parish farewelling our Vicar, and during this service Dean Helen will return to the Cathedral family the symbols she was given at her installation, as the task of ministry in this place remains with the parish.
Then at 5pm the Cathedral Parish will host a Farewell Service for the Diocese and community (including invited guests). This service will focus on the Diocese and community farewelling the Dean of the Cathedral. The service will be followed by dinner for everyone at the Quayside Restaurant, Ahuriri. Tickets for the dinner are $35 each and will be available from the Cathedral Parish Office in February.
Dean Helen will preach at both services.
