Lionel Messi and co begin their quest for glory, but can Iceland, who conquered England at Euro 2016, throw a spanner in the works for the South American stars?

Argentina, who began the tournament as one of the favourites thanks to their array of attacking talent including Gonzalo Higuain, Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero, go up against organised Iceland in a Group D clash at the Spartak Stadium in Moscow.

The day’s second Group D match sees Dalic Zlatko’s Croatia go up against Gernot Rohr’s Super Eagles, with both teams desperate to start the competition well.

Group E gets underway in Samara as Costa Rica, one of the bookmakers’ biggest outsiders for success in Russia, get their campaign underway against Serbia.
