Seaman Lakiba Palmer, a Purple Heart Medal recipient, was born and raised in San Diego and grew up on Lise Avenue in the Chollas View Community. As one of the first women killed on a naval battleship in U.S. Naval history, Seaman Palmer is an unsung hero. The installation of the new street name sign will culminate the end of a seven year effort by her family to have the street renamed. It has been an honor to support the Palmer Family and the American Legion during this process. Please join us as we honor our local fallen hero. Special Legislative Recess Edition

Public Safety Priority: Councilmember Cole’s Pedestrian Safety Awareness Month will be declared on June 2,

Youth Development: As a continuation of the Youth Development Program’s efforts to provide youth with an

awareness of career opportunities within the City of San Diego, students are invited to participate in the

Youth Development Summer Mentoring Program. Students must be between the ages of 15 and 24,

currently enrolled in school and willing to commit to the 8-week program (June 29 – August 21). Students

may sign up for this unique experience to be mentored by career professionals in the City of San Diego by

Neighborhood Revitalization through Code Enforcement | CIVIL PENALTY NOTICE AND ORDER, ABATEMENT PENALTY

NOTICE, & A NOTICE OF VIOLATION: These notices were issued for 3 different properties that are ALL in violation of

the San Diego Municipal Code. The property located at 6211 Imperial Avenue was operating an illegal Marijuana

Dispensary and has now ceased operations. The property at 7715 Brookhaven Road is deemed a public nuisance

due to a large accumulation of waste and non-permitted storage. The homeowners are ordered to correct all

violations. Finally, the property owner of 127 San Jacinto Street is violating the law by constructing an unpermitted

addition at the rear of the dwelling. Civil Penalties are assessed at a daily rate not-to-exceed $2,500 per day per

violation and a total maximum of $250,000 per parcel. Code enforcement helps to keep our neighborhoods clean

and safe.
