Weekly Disease Report For The
The Michigan Disease Surveillance System (MDSS) has revolutionized communicabledisease reporting in Michigan; and subsequently, has transformed the Weekly DiseaseReport. The advent of the MDSS allows immediate communication among diseasereporting authorities, local health departments, and the Michigan Department of Healthand Human Services (MDHHS) regarding investigations into possible cases ofcommunicable disease. Information on these possible cases is available in MDSSregardless of whether they are suspected, probable, or confirmed cases of disease.
The data in the Weekly Disease Report are provisional, based on current reports toMDHHS by local health departments. The MDSS is a dynamic, continually active system:counts of disease are constantly changing as cases are investigated, confirmed as cases,or ruled out as not meeting the case definition. The Weekly Disease Report reflects thisconstant activity as the numbers slightly fluctuate each week. Therefore, it should be keptin mind that numbers in the Weekly Disease Report are NOT final and should be usedonly to generally monitor trends over time. Please contact your local health department fordefinitive numbers to be used for research or reporting purposes. To find your local healthdepartment, please visit
