OBJECTIVE: The Quran is calling up on us to be people who are conscious of God Almighty and His call to the Oneness of God. In order to obtain consciousness, God has outlined means of attaining closeness to God-‐ maintaining the spirit of Ramadan and understanding His Oneness-‐ through the trials of provisions and loss.
The Quran has established a clear reason for our presence in this life, obtaining consciousness of God • I created the jinn and humankind only that they might worship Me. (51:56) • O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may
become righteous (2:183)
Maintaining the Spirit of Ramadan: *Now that we have pushed ourselves to greater limits and realized our increased capacity that comes from determination and added effort-‐ we have to hold ourselves to a higher standard. This practice allows us to use the tools Allah swt has provided in order to continuously grow closer to him.
1. Maintain the daily relationship with the Quran every day of the year 2. Continue the fast of the eyes, ears, and tongue every day of the year. And fast Monday and or Thursday 3. Remain consistent in prayers and congregational prayers as much as possible.
Coping with loss and difficulty Tests in those things that we love and cherish reinforce the importance of complete reliance on God alone and a focus on the life to come rather then the temporary things of this life. Without such tests we might be relaxed in the dunya and lose sight of our true home in the akhirah.
• Be sure we shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits (of your toil), but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere (2:155)
We have faced a tremendous loss this week. We need to get past anything that sets us apart and support each other.
• Abu Musa reported: Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) as saying: A believer is like a brick for another believer, the one supporting the other.
We need to remember Allah swt will test His servant but never abandons him/her • “So remember Me; I will remember you. Be grateful to Me and reject not Faith” (2:152) • “And if my servant asks about me, I am near to him. I listen to the call of every suppliant when he calls on Me.”
(2:186) • Prophet Muhammad (May peace and blessings be upon him) said : Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala said: I am as My
servant thinks (expects) I am. I am with him when he mentions Me. If he mentions Me to himself, I mention him to Myself; and if he mentions Me in an assembly, I mention him in an assembly greater than it. If he draws near to Me a hand’s length, I draw near to him an arm’s length. And if he comes to Me walking, I go to him at speed.’” -‐(Sahih Bukhari)
