This Christmas season is shaping up to be a wonderful celebration during the 150th year of FUMC Tupelo.

Also as part our Sesquicentennial Celebration, FUMC will have a LIVE NA-TIVITY in conjunction with our Singing Christmas Tree in December and we need your help! As before advertised, we need help putting up the NEW Singing Christmas Tree for a trial run on the mornings of August 26 & 27 (THESE ARE NEW DATES) at 8:30 a.m. They will work for about 6 hours each day. The origi-nal tree was built in 1984 and it was time for a NEW tree. The tree was purchased from a company in Texas. They will be here to oversee con-struction on these days. Please call the church office (690-8100) to sign up. Thanks!

LIBRARY NEWS A Tribute to Elie Wiesel

On July 2 the world lost a powerful voice for human rights. Elie Wiesel was a Holocaust sur-vivor, Nobel Peace Prize winner, theologian, and educator. He made it his life’s mission to tell the story of the Holocaust. In addition, he authored over 50 books. To learn more about his life and his mission, the following books are available in our library:

• All Rivers Run to the Sea – a memoir • The Night Trilogy – contains Night, a masterpiece of Holocaust literature, and two novels. • Open Heart – his last book, published in 2012, is a very different work of introspection in

which he reflects on his life and family and confronts his own mortality.

The Helping Hands Clothes Closet is in need of boys and girls school clothes, baby clothes, and toddler clothes.

Each year, hundreds of thousands of children under the age of 5 die of malaria. We, as members of United Methodist Church, have the ability to help eradicate this mosquito-borne disease. In the efforts to stomp out malaria, the Mississippi Confer-

ence of the UMC is focusing on Imagine No Malaria, a campaign to raise aware-ness and money to eradicate this disease and has set a goal of supplying 100,000

malaria nets. Please pick up your donation box and begin collecting. These offer-ings will be received on World Communion Sunday, October 2.

We look forward to working with everyone in our church to do our part to help the Conference met our goals!
