BIBLE STUDY - It’s not too late to join us for Bible Study as we learn about Another Mary in the life of Jesus. This Mary gave lavishly, but ended up being criticized by others. Sound familiar? Thank goodness Jesus had the last word! Come listen and learn this Thursday evening.

We meet at 14 Stone Street from 7 – 8:30 pm.

FAMILY FAITH FORMATION NEWS!

Give up and take up for Lent Throughout the year, we can get caught up in behaviors that lead us away from God. Lent is a gift from the Church to help us find our way back. Like eating green vegetables, good Lenten practices help children to grow up healthy, strong and headed for Heaven. Try these ideas to help children have a positive Lent experience: Penance. Even young children understand that if we make a mess, we have to clean it up and try not to do it again. That’s the basic idea behind Lenten penance. When we disobey God, we need to apologize to him, fix things if we can and try not to do it again. Giving up a favorite toy, game, or pastime is a start but replacing it with something sacrificial – such as good deeds or extra chores – is even better. Prayer. Children with good prayer habits become adults who pray. Refresh your family prayer habits and encourage children to start and end the day in prayer. Together pick a morning and evening offering and say it together during Lent. Acts of kindness. Our sins affect others, so offering kindness is a good way to compensate. Some solid Lenten acts for children include sweeping a neighbor’s walk, doing an extra chore without being asked, or showing friendship to another child at school.

On Sunday, March 29, they’re serving up all their specialties-eggs, ham, bacon, pancakes, sausage, biscuits and gravy, coffee, and juice- for only $10 (children under 12 free) at the K of C Hall, 270 Rianda St. Come on by before or after Masses, and let the Knights brighten you day.

Special Movie Event -A special presentation of the multi-award winning documentary, “The Drop Box”, will be shown for three nights on March 3, 4, & 5 at 7 pm at two of our local theaters – Century Theaters at Del Monte Center, Monterey and at Northridge Cinemas, Northridge Mall, Salinas. Tickets are $12.50 & $11.50 for seniors. “The Drop Box” tells the story of South Korean pastor Lee Jong-rak and his heroic efforts to embrace and protect the most vulnerable members of society. Through Pastor Lee’s baby drop box, hundreds of infants who would otherwise have died have been left in Pastor Lee’s compassionate care. Many of these infants were abandoned due to their disabilities or deformities. The movie is a heart wrenching exploration of the physical, emotional, and financial toll associated with providing refuge to orphans that would otherwise be abandoned on the streets. But “The Drop Box” movie is also a story of hope – a reminder that every human life is sacred and worthy of love.“The Drop Box” won “Best of Festival” at the San Antonio Independent Christian Festival. At the same festival it received the “Sanctity of Life” award for the film that best portrayed this concept. It won “Best Justice Film” at the Justice Film Festival in Los Angeles and the “Inspiration Award” at the John Paul II Film Festival. This film is being distributed by Focus on the Family in 710 theaters across the country and 100 theaters in Canada. It is 72 minutes in length and will be followed by a taped panel discussion about the global issue of orphans and adoption. 2015 ANNUAL MINISTRY APPEAL – “DEEPENING THE FAITH-TOGETHER IN SERVICE!”

We’ve gotten off to a slow start. 40 of our 2,239 registered families have pledged $14,037 toward our parish goal of $72,000 (of which the diocese will receive $40,200). That’s 1.79% of our registered families. As a parishioner in your local church, and as a parishioner of the Diocese of Monterey, we ask you to help us meet the challenge we now face. The key ingredient to the success of our AMA is participation. In order to reach our goal, we need 100% to participate. We are asking each family to pledge $300 – however, no gift is too small or too large!! Please prayerfully consider how you can help the diocese and the parish. There are extra pledge envelopes in the pews or from the parish office if you did not receive one. Online giving is available at www.dioceseofmonterey.org/ama.

We thank you for your generosity and support. If you have any questions, please contact the parish office at 424-1959 or the AMA “Hotline” at 831-645-2844.

We are there from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and you could come any hour that works for you. It is a beautiful experience and a spiritual blessing.
