Oktoberfest began with the Royal Wedding on 12 October 1810 when Crown Prince Ludwig, was married to Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen. The citizens of Munich were invited to attend the festivities held on the fi elds in front of the city gates to celebrate the happy royal event. Today, the Oktoberfest in Munich is the largest festival in the world, with an international fl avour characteristic of the 20th century. Reference http://www.ofest.com/history.html Set along the banks of the picturesque Currumbin Creek, Currumbin RSL is hosting Oktoberfest Currumbin style on the offi cial international launch date for 2015. Earlier this year the Club created a garden space along the waterfront which incorporates a large arbour area with screens and planting for shade, new sandstone paving and decking area; which off ers the perfect setting for an outdoor beer garden Guests can enjoy a variety of German beer, sausages and sweets, schnapps, live entertainment and a festival atmosphere. says Currumbin RSL spokesperson Laura Prout. 2011 saw the Clubs inaugural Oktoberfest held outdoors and was a great success. In subsequent years the event was held indoors however after much demand the Club is moving it back outside along the waterfront and believes 2015 will off er a fun day out for all. 2011 census data shows that German is one of the top fi ve languages spoken by those that live within a 15 km radius of the Club. In previous years the festival has seen many locals attend in traditional dress armed with personal steins in hand. The Club has learned a lot about the event from its locals and this year Beverage Manager Andrew Crabtree is providing festival goers with a variety of German tap and bottle beer including Altenmunster, Radeberger Pils, DAB Original, Schoff erhofer and Erdinger, among others.The Clubs Executive Chef Felicity Best has devised a menu for the event both outside and through specials available at Alleys Restaurant and La Vista Cafe. Knackwurst and Bratwurst sausages with the all important sauerkraut will be on off er, delicious black forest cake and apple strudel while Alleys diners can choose to order the traditional German Schlachtschussl, a meat lovers dream. A dish with roast kassler (salted pork), bratwurst, crispy bacon, sauerkraut and potato.For live entertainment guests will be delighted by the sounds of Zoltan and the Huns. This quintet will set the scene with traditional and popular German songs. The Huns have performed all over the world and at many Oktoberfest events on the Gold Coast and Brisbane.
