Daniel Chose to Do What Was RightBased on Daniel 1:1-20

Daniel and his friends lived in Jerusalem. King Nebuchadnezzar (neb yoo kad NEZ uhr) of Babylon took over Jerusalem. The king told his servant to choose several young men from Jerusalem to come live and study in Babylon. He told the servant to give the men food from the king's table. The men were to learn the language and other things about Babylon. After three years of studying, the men would work in the king's palace.

Daniel and his three friends knew the king's food was not good for them to eat. Daniel asked the king's servant if they could have different food. The servant liked Daniel, but he thought that not eating the food might make the men too thin. The servant was afraid the king would be angry with him.

Daniel told the servant to let the men eat vegetables and drink water for 10 days. Then the servant could see the men and decide whether they were more healthy or less healthy.

The servant agreed. For 10 days, he brought fresh vegetables and water for Daniel and his friends. After 10 days, the servant looked closely at all the men. He decided to keep bringing Daniel and his friends vegetables and water.

At the end of three years, the king talked with all the men. The king found Daniel and his three friends to be the strongest and wisest of all the men. Daniel and his friends served the king.
