3) Marie Fanjoy '85 - By day, Marketing & Business Development at MMMC Architects, a mid-sized full service

architectural firm with studios in Brantford and Kitchener. By night, co-owner of Blue Dog Coffee Roasters in

charge of marketing, merchandising, accounting and payroll. Marie is pleased to share her insights on what

Do you enjoy volunteering? Are you interested in social and international issues? Then the Social Justice Coalition

Club is a great club for you! The SJC organizes and runs events that promote human rights and social justice

awareness. We will be holding our first meeting of the semester on Thursday, January 17 at 5:30 pm in CB 208. We

will be discussing upcoming events such as: International Development Week, Out of the Cold and more!

WLUSU Election season is underway! Candidate Training Sessions are happening this week on Tuesday, January 15

and Wednesday, January 16 at 10pm in RCW 202. Students currently holding elected positions, including the Board

of Directors and the elections team will be on hand to help potential candidates with understanding roles and

responsibilities of the elected positions and providing training for running a campaign. Please note that full platforms

are due by Friday and the All-Candidates meeting will be held on January 21 @10pm. For more information,

This month's monthly challenge is a "Welcome Back to the Winter Semester" word unscramble! Come and pick up

your copy of the challenge at the U-Desk! A challenge will be drawn out of the box and the winner will receive a

We welcome everyone to come and join in our Morning Prayer that takes place every Wednesday morning from

8:45 - 9:45 am to pray for our campus and anything else going on in our lives. This will be happening in the SCJ

welcome you to The Bridge. It’s purpose is to bridge students into community with others and with Jesus. It takes

place every Tuesday from 5:00PM-7:00PM (Beginning January 15th) in RCW 324. This is our weekly scripture study

and hang out time. Please bring an appetizer, dinner dish, or dessert as we will be having a potluck dinner together

each week. We hope to see you there!

From January 25—27, the OAC will be taking part in a

weekend long winter camping trip to the Pinery (Grand

Bend). We will be staying in yurts and doing winter

activities during the day (such as snow shoeing, and

hiking). Don't have a way there? Don't worry! Car

pooling is available!

Please check your LORIS OSAP status for the most up to date information regarding your Winter term disbursement.

If your LORIS OSAP status states “2nd disbursement of OSAP funding on hold. Login to your OSAP online account

to confirm income and course load immediately” or “Unable to confirm registration for OSAP purposes. Insufficient

course registration”, this means that you are not registered in the course load you indicated on your application.

Example 1: A student indicated a 100% course load for both the fall and winter terms on their OSAP application.

Current course load status for the student is Fall 100% Winter 120%-we can’t confirm your enrolment. E-mail

[email protected] from your mylaurier.ca e-mail account to confirm if you will be staying in your 120%

course load or if you will be dropping a course.

Example 2: A student indicated a 100% course load for both the fall and winter terms on their OSAP application.

Current course load for the student is Fall 100% Winter 60% - we cannot confirm your enrolment. Please e-mail

[email protected] from your mylaurier.ca e-mail account to confirm if you will be staying in your 60%

course load or if you will be adding any additional courses.

The timetable for the Laurier Brantford Spring/Intersession courses can be found here: please visit this site often for

updates. Registration for these courses will begin on January 15 on LORIS.

The academic dates for the Winter 2013 term can be found online here. Please note: January 20th is the last day to

add 12-week, Winter 2013 courses.

On January 15, at 5:30 in the Sanderson Centre for the Performing Arts, the Student Life Office is bringing nationally

renowned author and expert, Mike Domitrz, to share the keys to handling intimacy. Known for his blunt, thought-

provoking, and entertaining approach to this sensitive issue, Domitrz reveals 3 life-changing approaches most

students and parents have never heard! You will laugh until you cry in this interactive, hard-hitting performance

where the audience is a vital part of the experience. Plus, you can win the highly sought-after “Want Some Action?”

Are you feeling anxious about the new semester? Concerned about improving your academic performance? Student

Success and Well-being will be holding a workshop on Wednesday, January 16 in Market Place from 4:30 – 6:00 pm.

Attend this workshop and begin the new semester with confidence!

Are you having problems finding the meaning behind your readings? Do you want to learn how to analyzing,

interpret and understand your readings better? If you answered yes than this workshop is for you! Join us in Market

Place on January 23 from 5:00-6:00 pm.

The first day of 6 weekly Wednesday workshops is January 23 in Market Place from 4:00-5:00. This workshop is

meant to help students to enhance their academic writing skills. Students are encouraged to bring the assignments

they’re working on with them for assistance and feedback. Registration recommended – spaces are limited!

There is Learning Services Centre support available to students without appointments:

General drop-in hours are on Mondays from 3:00-5:00.

English Language Learner drop-in hours are on Tuesdays from 5:00-7:00 and Thursdays from 11:00-1:00 .

Tech Tools for Academic Success is a series of 3 workshops designed to introduce you to available software on

campus. Hands on demonstrations and tutorials will teach you how to best utilize the software to be more efficient

in your academic tasks. The workshops are designed to introduce you to technology that can assist with note taking,

reading, organization, & writing. You’re encouraged to bring your computer to practise the skills demonstrated to

them during the workshops. You must attend all 3 workshops to be able to add this activity to your CCR.

OneNote is a Microsoft note taking software available on all PC computers. It often comes pre-loaded onto a PC

and is a great tool for note taking in University. Attend this workshop to learn usage and shortcuts on a very useful

program that can really improve your university experience. With notebooks for courses and pages for individual

notes, note taking can't be any easier; the best part is that you never have to save a thing! OneNote automatically

saves everything you do! Workshops available in SCJ 214 on January 16: 3-4pm and January 21: 11:30-12:30.

A variety of text to speech software programs will be demonstrated at this workshop ranging in price from free to

cheap. Attend this workshop and learn how to use technology to listen to your readings on your computer (MAC or

PC). Workshops available in SCJ 214 on January 22: 12-1 and January 31: 12-1.

Are you having trouble organizing your thoughts for an essay? Or making a presentation for a class? Well then

Inspiration Software can help! Come on out to our workshop where you will learn how to make awesome essay

outlines and presentations. Feel free to download a demo version of this software prior to attending the workshop

(http://www.inspiration.com/) to have it available -full versions are available to you in any LB computer lab.
