Celebration of Closeness & Community in your Life
“Treasure Seeking” - Gold & Silver Leaf has a magic quality that instantly transforms a painting—not only in terms of the
glimmering end result, but also in the process of taking a fragile shimmering piece of leaf and to the way it breaks into
tiny flecks of shine!
Celebration of Closeness & Community in your Life
"Jar of Special Favorites"Closeness and community grow from tending to the things
that we love. We will be doing a full page collage with layers and stripes of color, altered photographs, drawing and
writing that will be contained in a large jar shape.. Off-white acrylic paint in the negative space will create the large simple jar shape. I think it will make a wonderful visual
element as a focal point and contain all of the things near and dear to us. Materials include: Collage, pencil, found papers, altered photographs, acrylic paint, pen and ink,
watercolor...
“Layers of Your Heart”We will create a layered heart by combining several collage elements. Each layer of heart will represent that which you are grateful for. We will write messages of thanks on the
heart layers to really connect with our gratitude.
“Drawing on the Inner and Outer World”“I saw a painting by the surrealist painter, Rene Magritte
when I was in France that immediately inspired my lesson for Life Book 2015. In most of my Life Book lessons, I have
created interactive elements on the page, and this year is no exception. We will create two landscapes, (one imaginary,
one real) and a figure to connect them.
“Painting from the Heart” Painting has always been a healing process for me. Yet I
struggled whenever I came to covering up the white space and knowing what to paint. So this project is all about fun and whimsy. We’ll learn to let go, paint with our fingertips and play with all sorts of art supplies to celebrate joy and
gratitude.
“The Art of Field Journaling”The most important part of my creative process is keeping a sketchbook and journal to record all of things that catch my eye and inspire my art projects. I am excited to share the process of what I like to call field journaling. From seeking inspiration in the world around you to opening your eyes to the beauty and joy in everyday things- I will be taking you along with me as I explore my own surrounding and then record my findings with a variety of simple sketching and
mixed media techniques.
“It's the Little Things” - Through a guided meditation we will ground in the present moment and connect with all the 'little things' in life that bring us joy. We will create a page honouring these little things and we will spend some time
really savouring the finer/ littler things in our lives.
Bonus: “Quick Be Here Now Painting” + MeditationA meditation video to bring our awareness into the consciousness of the present moment and its vast
possibilities, followed by one playful video on warming up with a 5 minute, 10 minute, and 15 minute painting.
“Feel the Moment” - Conscious living prompts and expressive painted self portraiture using pastels, pencils,
and acrylic paints.
Bonus: “Here’s Looking at You, Kid.”In this lesson, we will honor the here and now by reminding ourselves how important it is to be present, let go and have
fun. We will play with our inner child using bright colors, personal imagery and a handwritten letter from the
perspective of our “little” selves.
Video: Collage / Personal Imagery / Mixed Media
Bonus: “The Magic of Presence”Discover how the magic of presence can help you to
develop your unique creative voice.
“Stamping Shadow & Light” - Hand-carving stamps to add depth to your pages. In this tutorial, you will learn to
carve your own stamps to add a unique touch to your mixed media artwork. You will work with dark and light colors and
shapes, honoring contrast in your work and in life.

Brave Intuitive Painting "Letting Go :: Letting In"This Brave Intuitive Painting lesson dives into "letting go and
letting in" as a powerful tool for creating rich, unexpected layered paintings with acrylic paint. Based on the
philosophy that sometimes you need to let go of things you like (or simply feel so-so about), in order to make room for things you truly LOVE, Flora demonstrates how to make
strong commitments while always staying open to change. This dynamic process celebrates freedom, presence and possibility! There are no mistakes, only opportunities for
transformation.
Bonus: "The Black and White Cookie Challenge"... My way of brainstorming/drawing and kicking up the creative dust with the idea of Shadow and Light, Pro's and Con's and Contrast. This will be fast and loose with drawing and writing
and maybe some noise making. We will consider ways that we need both shadow And light to make a authentic whole..
And I will be eating the b/w cookies at the end :) Short video and PDF :)
Main: "Reflections of You"We will create a mixed media journal page with you as the main
subject. You can either use an image transfer technique I will share or you can follow my step by step instructions to paint a portrait. I will show how to use light and shadows to create a
realistic portrait. Just as an image can not look true to life without both the light and the shadows either can we as whole
individuals be real without honoring all parts of us. We are made up of different gifts, strengths and the areas we want to
grow, change and let go of. All of these parts of you need to be honored and seen.
We will be playing with vintage papers, acrylics, white gesso, clear gesso, charcoals, stabilo, some stitching and calligraphy
pen/ink
Honouring, Courage & The Masculine Archetype
“Magic, Vulnerability & Courage”In this lesson we will explore our own vulnerability, our own
courage and work with what we discover in a male portrait of 'the magician'.
Honouring, Courage & The Masculine Archetype
Bonus: “Happy Painting” I’ve fallen in love with mixed media painting and out of all of the painting techniques I’ve ever tried, the one thing I always return
to is remembering to have fun whenever I create. This brings joy into the process, which inevitably gets infused into your
artwork and always makes anyone who sees it smile. With this project, we’ll rekindle our courage, learning to let go, painting
with our fingertips and playing with color and layers.
Honouring, Courage & The Masculine Archetype

“Stencilling What You Love”In this section I will lead you through a guided imagery journey to sort through your life's experiences and tracking what you love to come up with some unique and meaningful personal
imagery to use in your artwork. We will be using some of the imagery that we find to create our
own hand made stencil.
Honouring, Courage & The Masculine Archetype
“ Finding our inner Magician & Warrior”A Lesson based on finding out what's sacred to us - about
carving out a sacred space in our life - and about practicing mindfulness - fully enjoying & honouring the here & now
every day. Then we will turn this into a fun, colorful Mixed Media Project, where I will show you my favourite
techniques with Watercolors & Pan Pastels.
Honouring, Courage & The Masculine Archetype
Healing & Empathy
“Layers of You” - In this offering we will explore the concepts of 'needs' and how they are the driving force for all
of what we do. I will guide you through a self-empathy exercise which can be used to heal old pain. We will create
a self-portrait through a 'paint over collage' method and embed our needs in the page.
Healing & EmpathyBonus: Creating your very own word jar and a sweet little
illustration to match.

Healing & Empathy
“Unravelling through Mark Making” Usually, how I feel about the blank page is similar to how I
feel about the blank canvas. At once it feels daunting ... and in a changed moment, it feels full of potential to incubate and
release my essence onto it, and into the universe, to the degree that I choose to share the page or canvas.
The change in feeling happens through the act of making marks. One mark influences the next, and then the next, and then the next. Once the marks are made, lots of things can happen. I can feel the marks speaking to me as I see things that I want to cajole out of them. Other times, I can feel that
the abstract nature of my marks are complete without introducing any conceptual image onto it. Other times, I feel
that the marks are ready and wanting to receive concept.
This process of what I go through, with varied outcomes, always with complete inhibition, is one where I embrace who I am without commanding others of how they should be. This is what I will be teaching in my workshop for Life Book 2015.
I hope you'll join me if you want to.
Healing & EmpathyBonus: “Traced Hand Hamsa Protection Symbol” - Using
our own hand, watercolors, paint pens and cut magazines we will create a symbol of protection, gratitude, and grace.
Healing & The Divine Feminine Archetype
“You are Wise” - Working with the feminine archetype 'The Wise Woman', we will explore our deeper truths and knowns.
I'd like to tackle some limiting beliefs about ourselves here (like 'I'm not good enough') and we will call upon our inner Wise Woman to find out what is the actual truth about us. On our
page we will create a character or animal in flight that 'soars' above our limiting beliefs in wisdom and joy.
Healing & The Divine Feminine Archetype
Bonus: “Inspirational Power Words” - Illustrate and doodle the inspirational power words describing the
"Healer" archetype. Using watercolors, 6"x6" watercolor paper cards and assorted brushes make a collection of
mantras, and colorful art with and written words. Add your own whimsey with simple imagery that inspires and defines
your connection to this archetype.
Healing & The Divine Feminine Archetype
“Painting the Muse”In this lesson we will explore Goddess archetypes and thus paint our true and inherent muse into life through a rich and
layered mixed media painting.
Healing & The Divine Feminine Archetype
Bonus: “Create new Possibilities”In this Bonus Lesson I'll show you some fun & helpful
techniques to nurture your inner Creatix (Feminine Archetype - Goddess who produces new creations) and how to overcome creative block. With some simple yet effective techniques you
can jumpstart your creativity and bring your creative Mojo back in no time.
Healing & The Divine Feminine Archetype
“Finding Strength”
Working in creative layers to unleash and express yourself.
“Intuitive Healing Session in your Art Journal”You’ll create a heartfelt art journal page as you learn how to use your creativity to navigate through the intuitive healing
process.
“The Journey to Acceptance” - Using the poetry of Wendell Berry and William Stafford as a launching point, we
will explore the idea of acceptance and gratitude. We will make art skins of tissue and acrylic mediums to create
material for collage work in our journals that illustrate the journey to acceptance.
“From Here to There” - Open your heart and creative mind, putting aside your fears and collage and paint with me while I guide you through my approach to art journaling. We will
blend color and add design elements through my rule-breaking methods with prompts to keep you inspired and
motivated.
“To Whom it May Concern”In this lesson, we will celebrate our present strengths as well
as our growth to come by writing a letter to our “future” selves. We will explore various ways to create texture with
Gesso and end up with a page full of whimsey, happy colors and drippy, sparkly splatters.

“Intuitive Painting As A Practice Of Sacred Play”One of the things I love the most about intuitive painting is that it opens us up to our playful inner child. The one who
never forgot how to make art without worrying about anything but her own joy. The one who knows that creating
for its own sake is the most healing and energizing thing you can do for your spirit and soul. The one who knows that wild and spontaneous play is essential for a rich and meaningful
life.
