REFLECTION

Find somewhere peaceful and quiet. Relax and

let your mind be still. Focus on the sounds of

your breath.

Now lets consider…

▪ Think about a favourite book, what makes it

special to you?

▪ How could you make more time for reading?

▪ Would it be good to encourage others to read

more too?

Spend a couple of moments thinking about this and

then write down your thoughts and if you want, share

this back with your teacher, friends or family.

How do we calculate the Area of a triangle Well we know how to work out the area of a rectangle so

(1) Complete the rectangle (look at the pink lines)

(2) We know how to work out this area b x h

(3) The triangle takes up ½ of thespace the rectangle takes up so we then half the area of the rectangle

We can then use the formula

Area of a Triangle = ½ x b x h

1/2 x 8 x 3 = 12

How to find the Area of a triangle

Literacy Task 3

An intricate chandelier hung low casting legs of dwindling light on the once silky carpet. Shredded matt black curtains were draped from poles like loosely woven webs. A book, whose pages burrowed into the fabric of a timeworn chair, cowered beneath fangs of torn, dangling wallpaper.

Read the description below and draw a picture detailing the scene.

What insect does this description makes you think of?Can you find at least 5 words that convey (lead you to think) of this? Write these words around your picture.Add one more sentence to the description, making sure that the words you choose continue to convey the theme.

We are learning to identify hidden themes in writing.

Page 20: Week Beginning

Literacy Task 4

We are learning to create a description of a setting using a hidden theme or motif.

In our last task we learned that writers sometime use hidden themes in their writing. Did youguess that the theme was spiders?

In our writing task this week you are to write a description of Count Olaf’s house using a theme . Count Olaf has a tattoo on his ankle. Do you remember what it is?

You may want to listen to chapter 2 again to refresh your memory.

When we are creating a setting using a theme it is very important to use vocabulary that linksto the theme. In task 2 you were asked to identify the words that made you think of spiders. In this task your theme is eyes.

(1) Make a list of words you could use to convey this theme. (see separate list)
