Week 9 Term 3, 10th September 2014 Dear Parents, Sue Mackay Principal Week 5 Term 2, 25th May 2016 Dear Parents, At Kororo Public School, we are exceptionally proud of our school uniform and the way that the wearing of uniform is supported by our community. There are a number of features around school uniform which we need to take into account when any conversation occurs. School uniforms should cater for all students in the school community in a manner sensitive to gender and local cultural and social issues including cultural and religious diversity. Uniforms need to meet requirements of occupational health and safety, anti-discrimination and equal opportunity legislation. They must promote the health and safety of students by identifying items necessary for particular activities e.g. items for sun protection. Decisions around uniform need to keep in mind that included items should be affordable, comfortable, made from easy-care and easy wear fabrics, appropriate for activity and suitable for all body shapes. They also need to be reviewed regularly and amended as needed. The KPS P & C have for many years managed the sales of uniforms on our school site. The parents who have managed this, including Rachel currently, have done a wonderful job. It is however becoming increasingly difficult to find parents who are willing to take over the coordinator role and also keeping up a supply of parents who can come up to school on a regular basis to operate the shop. With all these concerns in mind, the P & C are putting a brief survey in today’s Newsletter to gather the opinion of parents as to the best way to move forward with the supply and distribution of school uniforms. Please take a few minutes to have a think, jot down your ideas and return the survey back to the office. Lots and lots happening at the moment – Semester 1 assessments and reporting, a large contingent of Cross Country Representatives head off this Friday, Eisteddfod Choirs and Dance Groups rehearsing, any wonder we feel busy! Have a fabulous week! Sue Mackay Principal

Week 9 Term 3, 10th September 2014 Dear Parents, Sue Mackay Principal

Quote for the Week:

Week 5 Term 2, 25th May 2016 Dear Parents,

At Kororo Public School, we are exceptionally proud of our school uniform and the way

that the wearing of uniform is supported by our community. There are a number of

features around school uniform which we need to take into account when any conversation

occurs.

School uniforms should cater for all students in the school community in a manner

sensitive to gender and local cultural and social issues including cultural and religious diversity. Uniforms need

to meet requirements of occupational health and safety, anti-discrimination and equal opportunity legislation.

They must promote the health and safety of students by identifying items necessary for particular activities

e.g. items for sun protection. Decisions around uniform need to keep in mind that included items should be

affordable, comfortable, made from easy-care and easy wear fabrics, appropriate for activity and suitable

for all body shapes. They also need to be reviewed regularly and amended as needed.

The KPS P & C have for many years managed the sales of uniforms on our school site. The parents who have

managed this, including Rachel currently, have done a wonderful job. It is however becoming increasingly

difficult to find parents who are willing to take over the coordinator role and also keeping up a supply of

parents who can come up to school on a regular basis to operate the shop. With all these concerns in mind, the

P & C are putting a brief survey in today’s Newsletter to gather the opinion of parents as to the best way to

move forward with the supply and distribution of school uniforms. Please take a few minutes to have a think,

jot down your ideas and return the survey back to the office.

Lots and lots happening at the moment – Semester 1 assessments and

reporting, a large contingent of Cross Country Representatives head off this

Friday, Eisteddfod Choirs and Dance Groups rehearsing, any wonder we feel

busy!

Have a fabulous week!

Deputy’s Report by Mrs Attwood Coffs Harbour Museum Excursion

Last week Year 4 and 5DH travelled to Coffs Harbour

Museum to learn about our local history. They were fascinated to learn about all things related to Coffs Harbour

in the olden days. There were many museum volunteers who imparted a great deal of their knowledge as they

showed the children around the museum.

Abby from 4/5DH said about the excursion “We learnt the

‘bit’ helped the horse take it’s medicine.” “We got to dress up in clothes worn in the olden days” “The gramophone

was cool because that’s how they listened to music back then” “You had to wind a handle to make it work. Now we

just have iphones and tablets.”

Hargun commented “In the olden days they used to wash

by hand and sometimes I still help my mum by washing

this way. It is fun!”

Do you have a bread making machine that you could donate to our Kindergarten classes? If so we would love to have it. Thanks in anticipation.

Thank You Kororo

I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank the students

and parents for my wonderful farewell assembly. I couldn't

have asked for a better send off. Thank you Indigo-Lily for

your moving speech and Austyn for your delightful singing.

But this thank you is for all the children and parents - too

many to name who gave me cards, presents, hugs,

smiles or good luck wishes. Thank you also to the P&C for

their wonderful gift and

kind words.

I will always remember

my time at Kororo as

something very special.

Year 6, I hope to see you

at the end of year

farewell.

Kind regards,

June O’dell

Sawtell Bus travellers BUS APP

Sawtell Buses are pleased to introduce a new ticketing

and GPS system. Schools and parents are now able to

download the ‘Transportme passenger’ app from either

Google Play or the Apple Store. Select the operator

Sawtell/Sahdra, then select the route you would like to

view i.e. S1am, S2pm. You will now have the ability to

view where a school bus is, whilst operating to assist

parents and schools in knowing how far away the bus is

from their stop. You can also go to our website,

www.sawtellcoaches.com.au, look under timetables to

download this app.

SRC Fundraiser Coin and a Can Day

FRIDAY, 3RD JUNE

On Friday 3rd June 2016 the SRC

will be holding a school fundraiser

for the Soup Kitchen in Coffs

Harbour. The SRC will be collecting a gold coin donation

on the day which they will use to purchase sleeping

bags to donate to the Soup Kitchen.

In addition to a gold coin we would like children to

donate any of the following pantry items. These will

also be collected on the day. Long life milk and

custard, breakfast cereal, soup packets, tinned fruit &

vegetables, tuna, creamed corn, corn, tinned soup,

coffee, tea, pasta, pasta sauce, dried peas, split peas,

poppas, fruit cups, museli bars, stock cubes, jars of

mustard, relish, honey and jam. All food donations will

help the Soup Kitchen provide meals to the Coffs

Community. Your donations will be very much

appreciated. One pantry item per family is sufficient.

PS. If you would like to also donate CLEAN, USED

sleeping bags, doonas or blankets, PLEASE PLACE

THEM IN A PROTECTIVE BAG. Please do NOT send in

junky tattered items. We then have to dispose of

them.

DEBATING

On Monday we went to

South Grafton Primary

School to debate. Our topic

was “That more maths and

science are needed than art

and music in school”

We had an hour to prepare and debated in front of a class.

Unfortunately we didn’t win but we did our best. We were told

we were the more confident team so that was a positive.

Overall we had a great time and really enjoyed ourselves.
