T he staff and I would like to welcome all of the new students and their families to our school. The students have settled into the school very quickly, making friends and joining in their class lessons with confidence. I would like to thank the parents who brought their children to the ANZAC march and Service during the holidays; it was really nice to see so many students and staff attending this important community event. W e celebrated ANZAC day here at school last Wednesday. The students worked through four activities ranging from poetry writing, drawing an army jeep, cooking ANZAC cookies, making medals and learning about what it was like to be in the Army. I would like to thank Mrs Harwood for all of her work planning the day and thank you to all staff who ensured all students were participating, engaged and learning many new concepts about the ANZAC‘s and why we should always remember. The students had the opportunity to see, hear about, climb through, and draw two army vehicles. I would like to thank Mr Michael Fittler who brought up his jeep named ‘Sarge’ and Mr and Mrs Broadley who proudly spoke at our service about the Army Reserves and introduced the students and staff to a very large Army truck and explained its many uses and how it keeps our soldiers safe. They were very informative talks and the students really enjoyed the opportunity to see these vehicles up close. I believe Spike even enjoyed his visit in the jeep. WO2 Andrew Harvey - THANK YOU TO FOR ALLOWING THE ARMY TRUCK TO BE AT SCHOOL. There were so many photos taken last Wednesday showing the students so totally engaged in the many activities, that we selected a few for this issue of the newsletter. More will be on display at the next Gathering. A t the end of last term we sent several entries to the 2019 National Trust Saumarez Anzac Art Competition. I was very proud of our students work as the artwork has reached a high standard. The children’s artwork is being shown at the Armidale Regional Library and will be displayed from Thursday 2 May to 1 June. The official prize giving will be on Friday 10 May. I am waiting to hear if any of our students were awarded a place in this competition and the classes are planning a trip to the library to see the art display. Watch out for the permission note for this walking excursion soon. Please go and have a look at the art work from primary students from the local Armidale schools.
