Week 8, Term 2 09/06/2020 Hi everyone, It was wonderful to see that we had 100% attendance at school on Monday! It has taken some of us a while to get back into routines but the teachers and I are looking forward to three weeks of uninterrupted learning ahead. After the disruptions to learning we have had this year, we appreciate parents making appointments out of school time, where possible, so the children are not missing valuable learning time. Parade We hope that some parents have taken the opportunity to watch Monday’s parade on Facebook. We miss having our parent body at parade but this is unavoidable whilst the current restrictions are still in place. You will notice that we used Microsoft Teams as the platform to enable the whole school to be connected. The kids had great fun with it and we hope you enjoy seeing everyone’s faces again! P & C Meeting Now that restrictions have been lifted to allow up to 20 people to gather inside, we are looking forward to seeing many of our parents at the upcoming P & C meeting on Thursday, 18 th June. The current situation with parents not encouraged to be in the playground has led to some parents feeling disconnected from school happenings and the learning which is happening in the classroom. We look forward to seeing many of you at this meeting and hope to see some of our new parents! Reporting A few newsletters ago, I spoke about the changes to reporting which will be occurring this semester due to Covid-19. I have had some questions about reporting so I thought I would reiterate the following points: -Report cards will be sent home in week 3 of next term. -Teachers will only be reporting on the subjects which were taught for the whole semester therefore only 4 subject areas will be reported on this semester -Yr P-4 teachers will report on English, Maths, Science and Health and Physical Education -Our Yr 5-6 teacher will report on English, Maths, Science and Humanities and Social Science(HASS) -Subjects which are not included in the Semester One report will be reported on in Semester Two Please feel free to make an appointment to discuss reporting with me at any stage, if you have any concerns. PBL Rewards Day Throughout this term our students have continued to earn leaves towards our whole school reward. Students will be voting this week on the special event, which will be occurring on the last day of term as they get close to earning 200 leaves on our PBL tree. Keep working hard, kids, so that we can finish the term with a bit of fun! Have a great week!

YEAR P/1 CLASS

Hi everyone, Last week the Prep/1’s jumped for joy to learn the sound j. The class made jelly and wrote their own instructions. We also added oa to our know sounds and coloured boats for this sound.

We read The Boy who Cried Wolf as our fable and spoke about being truthful. In reading groups we are practising our sounding out and are continuing using Reading Eggs. Thank you for reading at home and sending the home readers each day, as we are learning the skills to read at school, the follow up at home is beneficial and it is exciting to see the progress! As a different way to learn our sight word we played pass the parcel and wrote a sentence with the word we unwrapped. The children are becoming more confident in knowing their birthday month and as June was the beginning of winter we put the months of the year in order and discussed the seasons.

Miss Mahon shared some great lessons with us and in Science we made a poster for what living things need and played a fun game. Have a great week. Mrs Elizabeth Jacobson & Mrs Julie Easey

YEAR 1/2 CLASS

Hello again, Just a little over two weeks to go! I want to take this opportunity to say how very proud I am of the students in my class. Their behaviour and their attitude toward their work is exemplary. English We have now completed our drafts on how to make a disgusting sandwich! As indicated last week, this assignment is the assessment piece for the unit on procedures and it is inspired by the book ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’ which you can find on youtube. Students needed to make sure they follow all the rules of writing a procedure, as well as making sure they remember correct punctuation and spelling. Students are using Spelling City more and more frequently. The games we use to help them practise their spelling each week are Missing Letter, Letter Fall and Splat ‘n’ Spell. Maths Students enjoyed learning about rainbow facts, or ‘friends of 10’. We used a variety of different strategies to work out what numbers add together to make 10. Year 2s embraced 2-digit addition with great confidence. They will revise this work for the next week before jumping into 2-digit addition with regrouping. Year 1s will continue with different number stories to help them understand the concept of addition.

Hope you all have a wonderful week!

Miss Katie Black

YEAR 5/6 CLASS

Dear Families, Firstly, it has been lovely to have 100% attendance at school so far this week. We are concentrating on improving our classroom procedures and routines with an incentive to have a whole class movie/treat food afternoon if our class reward card gets complete!

The students are well underway with many of their assessment projects and are achieving wonderful things. Their Science experiment turned out ‘disgustingly good’ with lots of mould growth being recorded! This made for interesting graphs of data and scientific explanations. Your child should now be able to tell you where the best place to store bread is to avoid having mouldy sandwiches! In English, we are coming to a close with our exploration of traditional tales and will soon look at writing our own story with its very own moral. I look forward to see which important lessons or messages the students choose to base their story around.

Our Maths learning has been all about properties of numbers and the relationship between operations. Knowing that addition and subtraction are opposites and multiplication and division are opposites are really important facts that support learning in so many mathematical areas. HaSS the last 2 weeks has been super fun as the students are now in the creating stages of their citizenship posters. They are coming together so fabulously and everyone is very excited about the project. I look forward to them all being complete this week and hanging proudly in our room. Photos will be in next weeks newsletter.

SENIOR SHIRTS – there are 2 additional shirts (1 x size 14 and 1 x size 16) if you and your child wish to purchase a second one. First in best dressed! Have a great week!

Miss Steph Ruddick

CHAPPY CHAT

Just wanted to say a BIG THANK YOU to all the great students and staff for my gorgeous painting. As you will see, now has a special

place in my sewing room 😊and

forever in my heart 💖

Again, thank you everyone 😊 and parents be proud of your children. Make everyday a special and happy

Chappy day 😊

REMINDER

Please remember to send some fruit in each day for our daily fruit break at 10:00am.

Students also need to bring in a hat. If a student borrows a spare hat they increase their chances of catching head lice.

COMMUNITY NOTICES

Please allow us to introduce the Central Queensland Public Health Unit (CQPHU). We work collaboratively with and support a range of internal and external key stakeholders. These partnerships ensure we are prepared to respond to the public health challenges facing the health care industry through carefully designed strategic service planning. As a unit, our objectives include health promotion, reduction of inequities across population groups and ensure delivery of efficient response to communicable diseases. In addition to this we aim to improve or maintain immunisation coverage and provide public and environmental health advise and services on communicable disease control and prevention. We are writing to seek assistance in understanding the uptake and usage of the Federal Government’s COVIDSafe app within our service area by completing a short survey via the link below. The app was launched on 30 April 2020 as a tool to aid with contact tracing in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. COVIDSafe uses Bluetooth to collect information of people you come into close contact with who are also using the app. If you test positive, health officials will (with your permission) use the encrypted contact information stored on your phone to contact those you have been in close contact with. This survey takes no more than 2-3 minutes. Thank you again. https://cqhealth.citizenspace.com/central-queensland-public-health-unit/89d9d8fb
