Shorebreak - Ameysha YR 12 2019
We have had a very busy week at Windsor High School, with many fabulous learning opportunities happening in every class, every day. The teachers and staff at our school work tirelessly to ensure that our students have every opportunity to achieve their personal best in their learning. Thanks to the PDHPE faculty who have written their faculty report this week, found later in this newsletter. Some highlights over the last week include the Support Unit’s visit to Sydney Zoo, Year 11 Biology Field Trip to Longneck Lagoon, our Show Team being fabulous at Blayney Show and our school leaders attending the Hawkesbury Leadership Conference. At the Leadership Conference some of our Year 10 Peer Support Leaders
led activities on communication and teamwork to the primary school
captains and our School Captains presented a session on public speaking
skills. We have received very positive feedback about how wonderful our
School Captains and Peer Support Leaders were. Well done to all our
students who participated.

Blayney Show – our show team and Mrs Ruis won many ribbons!
Covid-19 has kept us busy this week ensuring that we keep our students and staff as well-protected as possible. All Department of Education guidelines are being followed and we will continue to provide updates whenever anything changes. Please ensure that you follow our Facebook page and check your email regularly for any new information. If you have not provided your email to the school, please call the office and provide it to our friendly office staff. We are relying more and more on email as it is the most efficient form of communication with parents. At this stage nobody in the school has been required to self-isolate, however, in the event that this might happen for a student, teachers are asked to deliver work via digital means. Our teachers all use Google Classroom, an online tool for providing work to students, whether they are at school or not. Students can communicate with their teachers and classmates through their Google Classrooms if they are absent from school. Students also need to check their education emails regularly if they are ever absent for a prolonged period of time. Google classroom is accessible on phones and tablets, but works best on a computer. Please discuss with your children what you can do at home to assist them in continuing their learning if they are required to have an absence from school. Last week’s assembly saw many students being rewarded for doing wonderful things at Windsor High School.
It is unfortunate that we are not able to have assemblies at present, due to social distancing requirements,
however, we are striving to continue with celebrating our successes on a smaller scale.

PD/H/PE REPORT
It has been a busy few weeks in the PDHPE/Sport Faculty. We have held our Annual Swimming Carnival, hosted the Macquarie Zone Swimming Carnival and attended trials for Basketball, Rugby League, Soccer and Sydney West Baseball.
Congratulations to the following students who were selected in teams to represent at the next level. Rose (Open’s Girls Basketball Invitational team). Nate (Opens’ Rugby League). Cooper (Sydney West Baseball).
As you may be aware schools have been instructed to take precautions around the Covid -19 virus and as such events will need to be rescheduled or re-organised to align with the current Department of Education directives. Due to these unforeseen circumstances many upcoming sporting events have been temporarily ceased or postponed. This includes sporting events scheduled for Week 8 including: Macquarie Zone Netball trails, Macquarie Zone Touch Football trials and the Sydney West Swimming Carnival. It also includes our upcoming Athletics and Cross Country carnivals.
Currently our highly successful Integrated Sport Program (Wednesday Sport) is permitted to continue as normal, this is due to the structure of the program which is designed to promote maximum participation. Students are already in small teams and play against other small teams with minimal contact. To try and minimise the disruption to our sports program the PDHPE faculty will begin to utilise this time in collaboration with the usual Physical Education lessons to apply a modified structure to our Athletics and Cross Country carnivals ensuring WHS students are afforded the opportunity to compete in their favourite events. As Senior students do not partake in scheduled weekly sport activities they will be allocated a time to partake in these events if they choose to do so. This will also stand us in good stead if the current restrictions on sporting events are relaxed and representative carnivals are rescheduled.
Proposed Schedule of Events Wednesday 18/3/20 - Athletics 100m Sprints Wednesday 25/3/20 - Cross Country Wednesday 25/3/20 - Athletics High Jump Wednesday 1/4/20 - TBC
Further information regarding this will be forthcoming. If you require further information please call the school.
Assessments
Year 7-10 PDHPE term 1 assignments have been handed out over the past week. Students are allocated a 2 week period and some class time to complete the tasks. It is imperative that students apply their best efforts to ensure they receive a mark that is reflective of their ability and submit the task punctually. If students require another copy of their task they can access it through the Google Classroom as each class has their own page. In PDHPE students are assessed on both their theory assignments and their ability to apply the practical skills they have developed in physical education classes.
Students are advised to speak with a PDHPE teacher if they require further assistance.
Deodorant A reminder that the Department of Education does not permit the use of aerosol deodorants on school premises as it can trigger respiratory issues for some students. Students are encouraged to use roll on deodorants to maintain their personal hygiene.

Macquarie Cup Trials Report
Boys Football (Soccer)
Windsor High School recently participated in the Macquarie Zone soccer tournament at Inalls Lane Richmond. The boys’ team fielded a young outfit who were short in reserves on the day; however, they performed admirably in the hot conditions. Their first match was a closely battled match against favourites Colo High School which finished in a 2-0 loss.
They went down in the next match against eventual finalists Rouse Hill 4-0. In the third match, Windsor regrouped to put in a strong performance against Hawkesbury High, with Windsor coming away with a 1 -0 win after Copper bundled home his shot after a goal mouth scramble.
Bruised and exhausted the boys pulled their boots on for one final match against Colo again. Unfortunately, Windsor went two players down early on due to injuries and Colo ran away with the game 3 - nil.
The boys must be commended on their efforts. Special mention must go to the diminutive Year 7 student Tristan who played every minute of the four matches and caused headaches for the opposition all day. Well done. Mr Cotter (Coach)
Girls Football (Soccer)
Despite the 40°C day predicted the whole Girls Soccer team arrived on time and full of spirit. The team was drawn to play against Colo High School, Crestwood High School, Kellyville High School and Hawkesbury High School in their group.
Colo High School were a very strong team but the girls did a fantastic job to keep the score down. Despite having no keeper on our team, Kendall stepped up to the role and had an absolutely fantastic game, saving 4 goals against Colo and at least 3 goals against Kellyville High. Kendall shared the goalkeeping duties with Tabeal who also had a great game against Crestwood where Windsor narrowly lost by 1 goal. Gemma and Meakenzee did a great job up front, being well supported by Rose in the middle of the park.
Despite never playing together as a team, all the girls did a great job in their respective positions. Hawkesbury forfeited the last game as they must have seen how good we were. Unfortunately, we did not make it through to the semi-finals but the girls demonstrated fantastic sportsmanship, teamwork and determination. Mr Philp (Coach)
Macquarie Cup Boys and Girls Basketball
Two teams of students travelled to Hawkesbury Indoor Stadium at South Windsor to compete in the Macquarie Cup Basketball Gala Day. Our teams played five games each in two separate competitions. The boys’ team lost their games by narrow margins but were competitive throughout the day. The girls’ team also performed well winning one and losing four games by the smallest of margins. These players showed a lot of class when attacking, scoring many baskets.
Notable performers on the girls team were Rosemarie and Lily who performed well. Lily scored a number of baskets and Rosemarie defended very well. For the boys’ team Jye and Riley were very skilful in all games, scoring points and defending valiantly.
Overall, all the students tried hard, enjoyed the experience and displayed excellent sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

Zone Swimming
On Friday the 6th of March 22 students represented Windsor High School at the 2020 Macquarie Zone Swimming Carnival. Taking place at the Blacktown Aquatic Centre, the carnival brought together the best swimmers throughout the 9 Macquarie Zone schools. Our team competed strongly in a range of races across all age groups and displayed the trademark Windsor spirit in many of the relay events. Windsor’s best performances of the day came from Cassidy who finished 4th in the U/13s Girls 100M freestyle and Jackson who finished 6th in the U/13s Boys 100M Freestyle. Congratulations to all competitors who once again did our school proud. Ben, Zoe, Mikaylah, Brett, Mark, Liam, Thomas, Cassidy, Cooper, Preston, Jackson, Kirrilieigh, Emma, Ethan, Hayden, Megan, Hannah, Lily, Tyler, Chloe, Natalie and Sean.

As part of our campaign against fare evasion, and our on-going commitment to provide the level of ser-vice needed to transport students to and from your school, Busways conducts regular checks of School Opal card.
All students must be in possession of a valid Opal card or pay a fare.
Students in possession of an Opal card must also tap on/off with their card when boarding our buses.
This is important, because the Opal data collected determines the level of service we are able to provide
to your school. If students don't tap on and off, the services will appear under utilised and may be con-sidered for cancellation based on low passenger numbers.
To apply for a School Opal card or to report a lost or stolen card, go online to www.opal.com.au/en/
about-opal/opal-for-school- students/
Students who are ineligible for School Opal will need to purchase a Child/Youth Opal card or pay a fare to travel on our buses.
Thank you in advance for your assistance and support. www.busways.com.au
IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM BUSWAYS
With the COVID-19 situation continuing to evolve in NSW, it is important to keep up to date with the latest information and advice. School and route bus services are currently operating as normal, however, should this change unexpectedly, our school bus operator, Busways, advises it will post updates to school and route bus services to its website.
Parents are encouraged to regularly check the Busways website at www.busways.com.au for updates and announcements regarding bus services for our school in case changes happen unexpectedly outside of school hours. Regular checks to the Busways website will ensure you have the most up to date information.
