Hi Families! Attached is a list of academic requirements for our at-home school days. Assignments are expected to be
submitted daily (unless otherwise indicated). If your family has an extenuating circumstance regarding work submission,
please reach out and let us know so that we can make an alternate plan. Also, please remember that we are available to
answer questions and provide academic support via email between the hours of 8:30 AM and 3:30 PM.
Please see attached for day by day instructions and worksheets. Links needed include: www.ixl.com, www.youtube.com, www.google.com for work to be submitted via google docs) and Google Earth.
All work can be submitted via Google Docs or Google Slides and/or a photograph of the work can be sent to the assigning
teacher. Work needs to be submitted daily for attendance purposes. If work cannot be completed on the day that it is
assigned (example- your child needs to be at a grandparent's house or you have multiple children using one computer),
please contact your child's teacher and let them know when the work will be completed. We must monitor continued
progress of student achievement in these unprecedented times.
MOT Student Active Lifestyle Activity Log: Complete the log each day by recording the physical activities you took part
in, along with the number of minutes you spent on the activity. If you are not active for a day you do not need to record
anything on the log. Please print the activity log to complete or record your on chart on a piece of paper. Upon our return to school, please bring these in for Mr. Baynard in order to receive credit.
WEEK 6 – DAY 1 (PE Activity Log each day) Worksheet to Complete
Language Arts (ELA) 1) Start by watching the video “Topic and Concluding Sentences”. Before starting the video you’ll need the mentor text “More Recess Time” (at right) and some colored pencils, markers or highlights - you will be marking up the text as we read.
2) Follow the instructions in the video and mark up the first paragraph with me. Then do the same thing with the second and third paragraphs. Take a picture of this and submit it to Mrs. Harbeson
3) Now you are ready to write your first paragraph of the body of your paper. You are just writing ONE paragraph today. It would be easiest to submit this on the SAME google docs that you wrote your lead on. IF you want a graphic organizer to help your writing, you can use the one at the right. REMEMBER - you are trying to convince someone that your park is THE BEST, so make sure you include lots of DETAILED examples. If you don’t have 5-7 sentences in your paragraph - add another detail.
4) Complete interview questions and answers for your main character in your “I Survived” book and send a photo or scan to Mrs. Parks. [email protected]

WEEK 6 – DAY 2 (PE Activity Log each day) Worksheet to Complete
Language Arts (ELA) 1) Read chapters 9 & 10 in your “I Survived” book, write a 5-7 sentences summary, email to Mrs. Parks in a google doc
2) Revisit the paragraph that you wrote yesterday in Google Docs. Make any additions or corrections that Mrs. Harbeson suggested. No need to resubmit. Mrs. Harbeson will see your corrections tomorrow.
Math Complete pages 117 and 118 - Paloma’s PIcture , which involves double-digit multiplication. You will want to use the ratio table and/ or area-array models we’ve been using. There’s a video included for your reference. Please note that the practice problems used in the video are not the same as the problems on the worksheet. Please send to Mr. Sharp [email protected] when finished.

Social Studies/Science 1) As you run your business, you’re going to need to have a social media presence (so customers remember the product that you offer), business cards to hand out to customers, and coupons to entice people to come try your food. Check out this video “Getting More Business” to see why these things are important. Using the templates on the right, complete each and submit them to Mrs. Harbeson by sending a picture of each one.
2) Woo-hoo!! Today you’re going to start creating and assembling your food truck! Watch the video “Making your
Food Truck” for some ideas and then use the templates on the right OR create your own idea. Work a little on this today and then finish it up on Thursday. On Thursday you will be sharing your food truck with the class on Flipgrid!

WEEK 6 – DAY 3 (PE Activity Log each day) Worksheet to Complete
Language Arts (ELA) 1) Watch the motivational video “More Writing!” and “Guest Speaker”. Then complete the work as described in the video. You’ll be writing two paragraphs today and submitting them to Mrs. Harbeson. It’s easiest to submit this on the SAME google doc you used on Monday. If you liked using the graphic organizer on Monday...it’s here again because you’ll need more room IF you’re choosing to use it. Just a reminder...in case you need to see it again...you are trying to convince someone that your park is THE BEST, so make sure you include lots of DETAILED examples. If you don’t have 5-7 sentences in your paragraph - add another detail.
2) Complete cause and effect worksheet using events from your “I Survived” story so far. Send a picture or scan to Mrs. Parks [email protected]

Not So Wimpy Teacher strikes again!
Not So Wimpy Teacher strikes again!
Currently at New Dawn Elementary School, fourth graders get 40 minutes per day of recess. We have a 15-minute recess in the morning, 15 minutes after lunch, and 10 more minutes in the afternoon. However, we’re in class for 6 hours and 20 minutes! That’s almost ten times more minutes spent in class than at recess! We need more recess time!
First of all, our recesses are too short to do anything! My friends and I like to play soccer at recess, but we can never get very far in a game. Once we establish teams, set up the field, and
get going, the bell rings! I know some other students, such as Sam Simeon, who prefer to play four square. He once said, “Some days I don’t even make it to the front of the line!” Some classes get to recess late because they are finishing a project or lose track of time. After lunch, the recess teachers sometimes hold us in the cafeteria until everyone has finished cleaning up their areas.
Imagine having even less than 10-15 minutes to play! I asked all 28 kids in my class if recess is too short, and they all agreed!
Additionally, physical activity outdoors helps us be healthy. According to the CDC (Center for
Disease Control), kids should get at LEAST 60 minutes of physical activity per day. Their website says that active kids have stronger bones and muscles, as well as lower body fat. With homework and family activities after school, sometimes our only time to be active is at recess. We don’t even have P.E. every day to help balance our active time. Wouldn’t it make sense to have at least 60 minutes of recess a day to help us be healthy and active?
Having more recess would help us learn and behave better in the classroom. On days when I don’t
get enough physical activity, it’s often hard for me to concentrate. I just want to leap out of my seat and run in circles, but I know I would get in trouble. Instead, my mind races in circles, and I can’t concentrate on the lesson. However, after some exercise, I come into class with energy to learn. Our P.E. teacher said that physical activity sends more blood flow to your brain, which can help you focus in class. You might say that in order to add more minutes of recess, we would have to take time away from academic subjects. However, if we are able to concentrate more in class, our time will be more productive!
Let’s put together a petition for more time at recess here at New Dawn Elementary School. We can get all of the kids who agree to sign it, and then we can turn it in to the principal. We need more recess time!

Hint: Use some of the strategies we have been studying lately to solve these combinations as easily as possible.
1 The door of Paloma’s house is 49 millimeters by 24 millimeters. What is the area of the door?
2 One of the windows is 15 millimeters by 32 millimeters. Another window is 30 millimeters by 16 millimeters. Paloma says the windows have the same area. Do you agree or disagree? Why?
3 The porch is 12 centimeters by 19 centimeters. What is the area of the porch?

Designing a Food TruckStudents can design their very own food truck with the templates I provided or develop their own from scratch.

1. Add design to template which includes logo, slogan, menu and other creative ideas. Students can cut and paste photos or draw their own.
2. Tape tissue rolls to the inside of the templates. Then add a roof and sides to the truck.
