Ask: Have you ever been to the beach with your family? What was it like? Have you ever built a sandcastle or something else out of sand? 2. Discuss: Sand is super fun to play with, but it's not very strong is it? It just washes away and crumbles into a heap after a little while and then you can build something new! Can you think of something that you could use to build a strong, real house that would last a long time? What is it? Where would you build your strong house? 3. Using paper and crayons or markers, ask the kids to draw their strong houses and then take some time to show and share together. HEAR 4. Explain that in today's Bible story, Jesus teaches us about a foolish person who built their house on the sand and a wise person who built their house somewhere very safe. Challenge the kids to listen carefully to find out where the safe place is. 5. Read about the Wise and Foolish Builders in a children's Bible (from Matthew 7:24-27). 6. Ask: Where did the wise person build their house? (on the solid rock!) 7. Let the kids know that when we learn Jesus' teaching and live it out, we are like the wise builder who built on the solid rock. Jesus is our rock! HUDDLE 8. Take a couch cushion and place it on the floor. Encourage the kids to form a circle and to walk around in a circle, taking turns stepping on and off the cushion. When you say "Freeze!" the child on the cushion says, "Jesus is my rock!" Continue the game until everyone has had a turn. 9. To wrap up, pray: "Thank you Jesus that you are our Lord and that you love each one of us (name each child if possible). Thank you, Jesus that you are the solid rock! Please help us all to build our lives on you! Amen."
