1st Christchurch Earthquake Anniversary
Today we went to the Hermitage Hotel for the 1st Christchurch earthquake anniversary. The Christchurch earthquake was at
12:51. Up at the hermitage hotel we watched TV1 memorial service and police officers called out all the names of people who died in
the earthquake. At 12:51 we did the 2 minute silence, we thought about the people
who lost their lives and all the friends and families who got injured .
People who died got crushed by the tumbling buildings falling on their bodies. 155 people got crushed by falling building and died.
Denis Calleson said a prayer for the Christchurch earthquake. Also he did a special speech for our school.

Our writing
Another extremely busy week has gone by for us. On 22nd Feb we walked up to the Hermitage to attend the special service they were holding to remember the devastating Christchurch earthquake.Denis gave a very moving speech and also read a message for our school children. It was special to have been able to be part of this remembrance.
We raced back to school to meet up with the pre schoolers who visit every second Wednesday. It was great to have Sarah and Sophie back in our class. They are so enthusiastic to learn. We also welcomed this week Vena. It is wonderful to have these 4 year olds as part of our programme.
Happy 5th Birthday Eden
Christchurch Earthquake Anniversary
Today we went to the Aoraki Mt Cook Hermitage. Today was a very special day. Because it had been one year since the Christchurch earth quake had
happened which was 6.3 on the 22nd of February 2011. 155 people got killed in the giant 6.3 earth quake. And while we were up there
Denis Calleson gave a speech on the Christchurch earth quake and a speech about us here at Aoraki Mt Cook School.

Christchurch Earthquake Twenty two of February we went up to the movie theatre. we went up there to watch pictures of the twenty two Christchurch earthquake. They called out
the peoples names who died. We had to be quiet for two minutes. We stood up and we thought about the sad people.
The earthquake was about 6.3.185 people died. Families and friends must be sad.

Our school mission statement:
Our BOT recently approved the purchase of 7 ipads and a large screen television. In line with current ICT practice this will provide us with wonderful opportunities for our students to be connected, actively involved, confident and well on the way to being life long learners. There was much jubilation and disbelief when the ipads suddenly appeared on Thursday morning! The ipads are an excellent learning tool and we will use them alongside our other ICT equipment. Our huge thanks to Denis who has very generously donated his wedding celebrants fees towards the goal of an ipad for each child at our school.
• VisitorsWe have had many visitors this week*Ben-helping to tune in our new TV*Tom Scollard for BOT training*Delaney & Paul families from Milton*Albert -a teacher from the Czech republic* Vena & his family* our new tadpoles!!
ReminderWe have a trip to Tekapo School on 12 March.A notice requesting help with transport will be sent out next week.
ICT
Aoraki Mount Cook School aims to develop students that are confident, connected, actively involved and
lifelong learners.
Below are some quotes from other schools who have already introduced individual learning devices into their classrooms:
“anyone who has been in a class of primary school learners who are all using an iPad will see that the response from the learners is one of engagement, wonderment, learning and of progress. ““It is no longer enough for teachers to expect students to passively receive knowledge. Now students need to create their own content, organise and share it, and that is exactly what tools such as the iPad do.”
