Homework
All classes have now begun formal homework. Homework is that
‘compound’ word that evokes a wide range of responses and
emotions! Many of us base our thoughts on homework around our
own experiences at school. At Ingle Farm, staff accept there is unlikely
to be and homework structure that works for all families on any given
night.
Each class will have slight differences in format however the
expectation is that as primary school educators we are providing an
opportunity for students to work on their organisational and time
management skills at home to complete tasks over a weekly or
fortnightly time frame. These organisational skills are expected in high
school and serve well as life skills in any chosen career!
We ask that you promote opportunities at home to support your
child(ren) to use time efficiently within other home commitments to
complete set tasks. We also remind you that tasks set for homework
are to encourage students to practise or complete skills that have
been taught at school. The teaching and learning that occurs at
school can be consolidated at home through practise and revision.
If your child(ren) experience difficulties, please talk to teacher/s so
that concerns can be resolved quickly. Teachers are experienced,
qualified professionals who provide students with new learning at
school in a planned, sequenced manner with expectations of each
individual student’s achievement potential. We appreciate feedback
about how successfully your child(ren) manage their homework
routines. Student communication books or diaries are a great way to
keep in touch with teachers regarding homework clarifications,
successes and records.
Sight Words
Families often ask for copies of lists we use for our students when they
are first learning sight words in the early years. Our sites use the Oxford
list. There is an online version that may be helpful for homework
activities.

As the new school year is now well underway and class relationships
and routines are in place, I look forward to a settled and learning
focussed partnership with you to ensure we collectively support each
of our students to achieve at the very best of their ability.
Warm Regards

Dear Families
Thank you for the many
families who shared
Acquaintance night with us. It
was great to see students
touring family members
represented across the site.
Students did a great job of
introducing family members to
our 2016 staff team.
A big thank you to staff and
family volunteers who
coordinated and cooked a
fantastic barbeque. Many
thanks also to Laura our
canteen manager for opening
this event.
Congratulations to our new
Governing Council members
who nominated at our AGM
during Acquaintance night.
This group meet next
Wednesday evening at
6.30pm. Formal roles will be
announced in the next
newsletter. If you were unable
to make it on the night, please
make sure you read class
newsletters as a guide to your
child(ren)’s curriculum areas
and ways you can support
their success for Term 1. Staff
appreciated the opportunity
to meet families and share
information.

WHAT JOLLY
PHONICS LOOKS LIKE
IN RECEPTION
Rooms 7 and 8 join
together every morning
to practise Jolly Phonics.
So far we have learnt the
sounds s, a, t, I, p, n, c, k,
e, h, r, m, d, g and o.
There are 42 sounds to
learn.
Each sound has an
action and a catchy
song that we sing
together.
As a whole group, we
brainstorm the different
words that either start
with that sound or have
that sound in them. We
practise letter formation
in the air and learn about
which part of our mouth
we use to produce the
sound correctly.
Each day we have a
craft activity linked to the
sound of the day. Some
activities have included
Rooms 7 and 8 coming
together to have a
shared Teddy Bears
picnic lunch and kite
flying on the courts.
In the Pink Unit we have
Jolly Phonics display
boards with all 42 sounds
on show. As we learn
each sound we
complete an activity to
display next to the sound.
SPECIAL CUDDLE TIME WITH OUR TEDDIES
Whole group brainstorming different words that start with the letter ‘r’.
Room 7 and 8’s TEDDY BEARS PICNIC
This is our Jolly Phonics display wall in the Pink Unit. It shows all
the sounds we have learnt so far and the amazing activities we
have made to go with each sound.

PINK UNIT ASSEMBLY Term 1, Week 3 assembly was run and
presented by half of the classes in the
Pink Unit. The other half of the classes
will run and present later in the year.
The assembly was hosted by brave
Year 3 students in Mrs Carn’s class
from Room 13, who did a fantastic
job pushing through technical
difficulties with the microphone!
Miss Cherie and Mrs Fedele’s two
Reception classes joined together to
sing Mr Clicketty Cane as they have
been learning the sound ‘c’ in Jolly
Phonics.
Mrs Mac’s Year 1 class presented
work about themselves as they have
been learning about using adjectives
in their writing.
Mrs A’s Year 2 class presented clocks
they have made in class and shared
information they have learnt about
an analogue clock.
A MESSAGE FROM OUR ABORIGINAL EDUCATION TEAM
We would like to welcome all our Aboriginal families.
We currently have 26 Aboriginal students at Ingle Farm and
look forward to meeting with students and their families.
In the Nunga room this year there are two new but familiar
faces.
Annette Buckskin has come back to the school after a long
break and is very keen to catch up with all students and
families. Annette will be working on Mondays, Tuesdays and
Thursdays.
Rita Martucci has been teaching at Ingle Farm for many years
as a class teacher and a specialist teacher and has now
taken on the role of Aboriginal Education teacher. Rita’s work
days are Thursdays and Fridays.
We plan to get families and the wider community involved in
some exciting projects so stay tuned and be ready to visit us.
Regards
Annette and Rita
