Essential Vocabulary• Thesis Statement- a statement in one or

two sentences of the main idea or purpose of the writing

• Conflict- a struggle between opposing forces (man vs. nature, man vs. man, man vs. himself)

• Compound Subject- made up of two or more subjects that share the same verb

• Climax- the point of highest dramatic interest or the major turning point of the story

• Resolution- point in a work of literature in which the main conflict is worked out
