    Week 3 Assignment

    Why Evaluation?

    Part A

    1. What are the benefits and limitations of an evaluation?

There are several benefits and limitations associated with evaluations. In this scenario, MCCD

launched the evaluation because they want to verify its value to students and the community. An evaluation would provide specific feedback as to their effectiveness in achieving these goals.

It would also allow MCCD to better define their standards, goals, and available resources. This

would include an understanding of the long-term impacts, if possible. Along the same lines, the

evaluation would provide an opportunity for all entities to collaborate with one another, givingthe parties a chance to build respectful relationships. This could be a key building block for all

    future interactions.

This evaluation would offer some insightful and useful information for Cashflow Technologies. They would benefit from learning about some of the potential improvements that could be made

to their products. They have a stated goal of expanding their products and services to othereducational bodies, and this could help identify new clients and audiences. In any event, CT

would gain insight into how they could improve and expand their offerings.

There are a couple of limitations to conducting this evaluation. For one, conducting an evaluation

does not guarantee that the findings will result in change for either party. It is up to each

organization to act on the results. Opening such a process could also lead to increased

vocalization of criticisms from all stakeholders.

    2. What factors ensure that evaluation will be successful?

There are a few factors that can ensure successful evaluation in this case. One such choice was

already made in selecting a qualified, outside evaluation team. This demonstrates a desire forobjectivity on the part of management. There also appears to be an interest in determining results

that can be acted upon. They would be wise to include all of the audience in this evaluation,

including students. This would help in creating transparency in the process.

    3. How might one use evaluation results?

This evaluation would provide guidance toward the creation and implementation of bothagencies missions and visions. In addition, both bodies could use the evaluation as a means of

determining aspects of the program that need to be promoted and ones that need to be scaled

back or eliminated. This includes changes to products, programs, and policies, regardless of pastpractices.
