i Orchard Way Primary School www.orchardway.croydon.sch.uk Week 2 Autumn Term 13th September 2019
Head Teacher's Message - The children have settled into the new term so well and there has been a real buzz around the school this week. Our new PE Coach, Mr. Gill, has been providing high quality lessons which the children are thoroughly enjoying.
It has been great to meet parents and carers at the welcome meetings, which have been very well-attended, and to be part of a school community with such pa-rental support.
This term we will be raising the profile of reading across the school. A love of read-ing is essential to children's development of fluency and skills. Most of all, there is nothing more enjoyable than being gripped by a good book. Reading with your child every day is invaluable; either listening to them read or reading to them. A bedtime story (even for Year 6) is a great way to spend time as a family and devel-op vocabulary.
Do you have a child at Orchard Way and have a sibling starting school in 2020? Makes sure you ap-ply online at https://www.croydon.gov.uk/education/schools-new/school-admissions/starting-primary-
school. There were many appeals last year for families which missed the deadline of 15th January.
Safeguarding is our principle responsibility and in order to keep your children safe, I’m sure that all parents and carers will agree it is important to co-operate with the following procedures:
If your child is late, please bring them in through the main entrance to sign in and a member of staff will take them to class;
Children should not be on the climbing frames be-fore and after school;
All adults must enter through the front door. Please don’t be offended if a member of staff asks you to use the front door rather than entering the school from the playground;
Mr. Pourou will lock the gates at 3.20pm from Mon-day 16th September. Any children who have not been collected will be taken to after-school club. If collecting from clubs, please enter via the main gate and follow the new path round to the play-
ground.
If your child has a packed lunch it is essential they do not have any nuts or nut products in school. We have many children with severe allergies and it is essential we keep them safe.
