Guided Comprehension

Tips on Answering Comprehension Questions:1. Do not copy the question on the answer sheet or notebook.2. Underline the key word or words of every question before

answering.3. Match the tense of your answer to that of the question.4. Do not copy any part of the question in your answer. For example:

Question: Why were the tourists not allowed to come in? Answer: The tourists were not allowed to come in

because...5. For questions carrying 1 mark, do not write an answer more than 1

sentence for it. It only needs one detail so DO NOT overwrite.

6. Your answers should be precise, to the point and in complete sentence until otherwise needed.

Remember: for an answer that is overly wordy, there might be no marks for it.

7. For ‘Why’, reason, and purpose questions, begin your answer with “because”.

8. Use your own words for questions that ask you to use “your own words”.

9. When answering comparison questions, mention both sides that are being compared.
