Week 1 Term 2, 2020 PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Welcome back to all members of our school community. I hope everyone has had a relaxing break and are ready for a fantastic term ahead. The enormous changes which occurred last term continue and staff are planning carefully for a sensible and sustained approach to Learning from Home and a managed return to school for our students throughout Term 2. At the beginning of this week, staff at DPS were involved in professional learning, and planning for the weeks and term ahead. Learning from Home resumed yesterday with the majority of our students continuing to be offsite. For families who need to send their children to school, this also commenced on Wednesday 29 th April. Canteen facilities remain closed at this stage so all food will need to be provided for students attending school each day. I have been discussing and will continue to consult with Simone George, President of the P & C about the canteen, uniform shop and the many changes that are taking place at DPS. The departure of our two Assistant Principals is a significant change for our school to this term. Mrs Fuiono has now commenced her role as Relieving Principal at Sandy Hollow Public School and Mr Garner will begin in his new position as Teacher Quality Advisor at the NSW Department of Education, Maitland Office on Monday 11 th May 2020. For Mr Garner this is a move closer to home and a role working across a large number of schools. I would like to personally acknowledge the leadership, strength, deep knowledge of the curriculum and commitment to Denman Public School that they have both demonstrated during their time at our school. I know all members of our community will join with me to wish Mrs Fuiono and Mr Garner every success in this new phase of their leadership journey. Mr Tony Schmierer has now joined our school community and will be teaching Year 1 for the remainder of this year. Mr Schmierer grew up in the Hunter Valley and has returned after teaching in the Western parts of NSW for the last few years. I look forward to our students and families meeting him in the coming weeks. The Assistant Principal positions have now been advertised and Mrs Melissa Whiteman and Mr Bryan Chapman will be assisting me with the process of appointing suitable candidates into the roles. In the interim Mrs Phoebe Bridge will act as the Relieving Assistant Principal for infants. I look forward to the term ahead and welcoming our students and families back to the school grounds. In the meantime we will continue to communicate with families via: Skoolbag Email School website Facebook (good news stories only) Megan Druitt Principal

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Welcome back to all members of our school community.

For families who need to send their children to school, this also commenced on Wednesday 29th April.

Mrs Fuiono has now commenced her role as Relieving Principal at Sandy Hollow Public School and Mr Garner will begin in his new position as Teacher Quality Advisor at the NSW Department of Education, Maitland Office on Monday 11th May 2020.

In the meantime we will continue to communicate with families via:

MANAGED RETURN TO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS Staff at Denman Public School are currently planning for a managed return to school for students commencing Week 3, 11th May 2020. From Week 3, children will return to school for one day per week and will continue to engage in Learning from Home on the other days. The structure that we have determined would best suit our students, is to use Sporting Houses. This means that on each day (Monday -Thursday) students from each sporting house will attend school to participate in face to face learning. It is important to note that all students will engage with the same single unit of work regardless of whether they are on school grounds or Learning from Home. Please be aware that families who need to send their children to school every day may do so.

MANAGED RETURN TO SCHOOL

FROM MONDAY 11th MAY, 2020

Monday ARROWFIELD

Tuesday ROSEMOUNT

Wednesday RICHMOND GROVE

Thursday CALLATOOTA

Friday Only students who need to attend school on this day

There are a few items below about this Phase 1 of the managed return to school, that families must be aware of:

Any student who has borrowed a schooliPad must bring this with them to schoolto complete their learning.

Parents are not permitted on schoolgrounds unless absolutely essential andshould only visit the school office.

Please follow our advice regardingchanges to drop off and pick up,including staying in your car whendropping off and picking up yourchild/children if safe to do so.

Maintain social distancing by avoidinggathering outside of school gates.

Make sure your child/children haveaccess to lunch and snacks as theschool canteen will not be operating atthis stage.

Support your child/children to continueLearning from Home on remotelearning days.

Communicate with the school via emailand phone wherever possible

Follow the health advice and keep your child/children at home if they are unwell.

SCHOOL CANTEEN The school canteen remains closed however plans are being discussed regarding reopening when the managed return to school enters Phase 2. More information will be provided to families when the canteen can reopen.

UNIFORM SHOP The uniform shop is currently closed however orders can be emailed to the school office. Families will be notified when items are ready for collection. All payment must be made by card for these orders - cash will not be accepted at this time.

MOTHER'S DAY STALL The Mother's Day stall will not go ahead this year sadly, due to the current pandemic and social distancing requirements

ANZAC DAY A big thank you to our school captains and their families for combining their videoing and public speaking skills to enable the ANZAC Day video to be created. Mrs Bridge used snippets of video from all students to create the respectful acknowledgement which was shared with our community on the school Facebook page. This year’s acknowledgment was very different from our usual community participation however the video enabled our school to remember those who have served and continue to serve to protect our country. We will remember them!

NEWEST MEMBERS OF OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY Look at the wonderful surprise that was waiting for us in the hen house when we returned to school! These gorgeous bundles of fluff are being well cared for by their protective Mum and growing very quickly. We can’t wait for our students to meet them!

FRONT OF SCHOOL UPGRADES Work continues on the upgrade to our school entrance. During the holidays new garden edging was installed and the personal name pavers were laid along the edge of the path. New lighting is currently being installed and we are now seeking information to update the school sign.

GENEROUS DONATION At the end of Term 1, Mr Gareth James presented a cheque for $2500 to our school on behalf of the Denman Rotary Club and the Mangoola Mine workforce. This generous donation was made to support our school to purchase resources to assist with Learning from Home. The funds have been used to purchase 5 additional iPads and keyboards for student use.
