patients and clients through, so that we can begin to figure out what systems

could be breaking down and contributing to your thyroid dysfunction.

First, download and complete the “The Hashimoto's Workshop Handout.”

The Workshop Packet is a few pages long and it will ask you a series of questions

to help you better understand the systems of your body that are showing

Why You Should NEVER Buy Supplements Retail

To date, I have not met a single patient or client that did not need temporary nutritional support…. not one.

What does this mean?

It means that most people with Hashimoto’s and thyroid dysfunction require additional nutritional support in addition to a diet that is filled with nutritious foods.

Before we get started, we need to talk… have you seen this from the NY Attorney General’s Office?

"When a scientific study tests numerous herbal supplements manufactured by more than a dozen companies and finds the wrong plant in just about every one, it raises more troubling questions about whether people who buy dietary supplements are getting what they paid for," Schneiderman said. "This is yet another sign that weaknesses in the supplements industry's approach to quality control are having real-world consequences for consumers."

You read that correctly, scientific studies on supplements made by numerous manufacturers had ingredients in them that were not even on the label!

You should already know the systems of your body that are having problems based on the Metabolic Assessment Form (MAF) you completed during Module #2, in “The Hashimoto’s Workshop Handout.” I walked you through the interpretation of that handout in “Dr. Shook’s Thyroid Workshop” video.

You should have listed the #1 most symptomatic system from the MAF, and gone to my online nutraceutical pharmacy to get the suggested temporary supplements. If you have not done that, you may not have what you need to best support your healing.

So what supplementation do I recommend? (Supplements I can trust!) 1st – You need essential supplementation so that your body has the vitamins and minerals it needs to carry out basic chemistry.

a. See “Foundational Health” category HERE, for the most basic needs. 2nd – You need to consider nutritionally supporting the most symptomatic systems of your body, based on the MAF. The bodily systems I see, that need most commonly need support are:

a. Digestive System b. Blood Sugar c. Adrenal Glands d. Liver

Supplement Organization and Planning:

1. Supplement organization (how do you keep them organized?)

a. Pill organization – I recommend that you put all of your supplements

in an organizer at the beginning of each week, Sunday afternoon.

When you get to the next week, replenish your organizer. This will

keep you efficient and organized.

2. Supplement schedule (timing app to remind you!)

a. Some of my patient’s and clients have found this app useful. You can

3. Download my supplement planner:

a. If you would like a supplement schedule that you can fill-in, you can

download my planner in this module. This is the exact planer that I

give my patients and clients. Complete this planner, print it, and put

it everywhere you need it (typically on the refrigerator!)

4. When you begin taking supplements, you need to keep a few things in

mind:

a. When you begin taking your supplements, there is a chance one of

them may not agree with you. This only happens in a very small

number of cases, but it is worth noting. If this happens, you will need

to stop them all and add one supplement into your diet, once every 3

days. If you start a supplement and notice that it doesn’t agree with

you, keep it out of your diet.

Module 2 Continued: What is Causing Your Thyroid Problems? The next thing that we need to discuss are lab findings from your blood tests. Hopefully your doctor has ordered labs for you, and you have a copy. If you don’t have a copy of the most recent bloodwork you have had done, then do whatever you need to do, to get a copy, because I am getting ready to walk you through a functional medicine overview of what your labs may indicate.

If you don’t have your labs, or haven’t had labs done, you can come back to this video, BUT it is important!

BONUS: Reducing your body’s toxic burden!

Do you wear or use cosmetics? Do you wear make-up? Do you use deodorant? What about

hand soap, body wash, lotion… even perfume or cologne?

If you do… did you know that there are about 13,000 chemicals used in those products and

that only about 10 percent have been tested by the government?

Yep… ONLY 10 percent.

What does that mean for you and me? We are getting exposed to hundreds, if not thousands

of chemicals on a daily basis that could be causing our body serious harm!

On average, women use 12 personal care products totaling almost 170 different chemicals!

Let’s Review and Recap Where We Are…

Now that we have completed Module 2, the Checklist on page 2 should be fully completed. You should have ordered the recommended nutraceuticals in my “Foundational Support” protocol so that you have the most basic needs for your body chemistry to functional normally. You also should have ordered all the supplements in the category associated with your #1 biggest problem area according to your metabolic assessment form. (For most people, this will be the “Digestive Support” nutraceuticals.) Unless you are a client or patient of mine, you need to take the supplements as directed on the bottle. A minimum of 2 to 3-month supply of supplementation are needed to support your “#1 biggest problem area,” and tapering from those supplements is appropriate at the end of that time for most people. My “Foundational Support” suggestions are usually taken on a daily basis for maintenance of vitamin and mineral levels for overall good health. At the end of this “6 Week Hashimoto’s Transformation Program,” you will complete another Metabolic Assessment Form to see how you are feeling, and to help determine what’s left. This is typically a great way to determine what additional nutritional support could be beneficial, and to measure progress. You are well on your way now! Next week we start the “good stuff,” and will begin with an overview of dietary changes, planning, and I will pull back the curtain to show you things that my staff and I personally like and use in our kitchen and daily life!
