LIMITED TWO YEAR WARRANTY ON CRAFTSMAN WEEDTRIMMER

For two (2) years from date of purchase, when this Craftsman Weedtrimmer is main-tained, lubricated, and tuned up according to the operating and maintenance instruc-tions in the owner's manual, Sears will repair free of charge any defect in material orworkmanship.

If this Craftsman Weedtrimmer is used for commercial or rental purposes, this warrantyapplies for only 90 days from the date of purchase.

This Warranty does not cover:• Expendable items which become worn during normal use, such as rotating lines,

belts, air cleaners and spark plug.• Repairs necessary because of operator abuse or negligence, including bent crank-

shafts and the failure to maintain the equipment according to the instructions con-tained in the owner's manual.

Warranty service is available by returning the Craftsman Weedtrimmer to the nearestSears Parts & Repair Center in the United States. This warranty applies only while thisproduct is used in the United States.

This Warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights whichvary from state to state.

The operation of any trimmer can result in foreign objects thrown intothe eyes, which can result in severe eye damage. Always wear safetyglasses or eye shields while operating your trimmer or performing anyadjustments or repairs. We recommend standard safety glasses or awide vision safety mask worn over spectacles.

A WARNING: In order to prevent ac-cidental starting when setting up, trans-porting, adjusting or making repairs,always disconnect spark plug wire and

2 place wire where it cannot contact plug.

I. GENERAL OPERATION

• Read, understand, and follow all instruc-tions on the machine and in the manual

before starting. Be thoroughly familiarwith the controls and the proper use ofthe machine before starting.

• Do not put hands or feet near or underrotating parts.

• Keep all parts of your body away frommuffler and spinning line. A hot mufflercan cause serious burns.

• Only allow responsible individuals, whoare familiar with the instructions, tooperate the machine.

• Stay away from breakable objects, suchas house windows, auto glass, green-houses, etc.

• Clear the area of objects such as rocks,toys, wire, bones, sticks, etc., whichcould be picked up and thrown by thespinning lines.

• Be sure the area is clear of other peoplebefore trimming, particularly small chil-dren and pets. Stop machine if anyoneenters the area.

• Wear appropriate clothing such as along-sleeved shirt or jacket. Also wearlong trousers or slacks. Do not wearshorts.

• Do not wear loose clothing which couldget caught in this equipment.

• Do not operate the machine when bare-foot or wearing open sandals. Alwayswear work gloves and sturdy footwear.Leather work shoes or short boots work

well for most people. These will protectthe operator's ankles and shins fromsmall sticks, splinters, and other debris,and improve traction. 3

• Do not pull machine backwards unless ab-solutely necessary. Always look down andbehind before andwhile moving backwards.

• Do not operate the machine withoutproper guards, plates or other safetyprotective devices in place.

• See manufacturer's instructions for

proper operation and installation ofaccessories. Only use accessories ap-proved by the manufacturer.

• Never use blades, wire, or flailing devices.This unit is designed for line trimmer useonly. Use of other accessories or attach-ments will increase the risk of injury.

• Stop the rotating trimmer head whencrossing gravel drives, walks, or roads.Wait for the cutting lines to stop rotating.

• Stop the engine (motor) whenever youleave the equipment and allow it to cool,before cleaning, repairing or inspectingthe unit. Be sure the trimmer head and

all moving parts have stopped.• Operate only in daylight or good artificial

light.• Do not operate the machine while under

the influence of alcohol or drugs.• Never operate machine in wet grass. Al-

ways be sure of your footing: keep a firmhold on the handle and walk; never run.

• If the equipment should start to vibrateabnormally, stop the engine (motor) andcheck immediately for the cause. Vibra-tion is generally a warning of trouble.

• Always wear safety goggles or safetyglasses with side shields when oper-ating machine.

II. SLOPE OPERATION

Slopes are a major factor related to slip andfall accidents which can result in severe injury.All slopes require extra caution. If you feeluneasy on a slope, do not trim it.

DO:

• Trim across the face of slopes: never upand down. Exercise extreme caution

when changing direction on slopes.• Remove obstacles such as rocks, tree

limbs, etc.• Watch for holes, ruts, or bumps. Tall

grass can hide obstacles.

DO NOT:

• Do not trim near drop-offs, ditches orembankments. The operator could losefooting or balance.

• Do not trim excessively steep slopes.• Do not trim on wet grass. Reduced foot-

ing could cause slipping.

III. CHILDREN

Tragic accidents can occur if the opera-tor is not alert to the presence of chil-dren. Children are often attracted to the

machine and the trimming activity. Neverassume that children will remain where

you last saw them.• Keep children out of the trimming area

and under the watchful care of another

responsible adult.• Be alert and turn machine off if children

enter the area.

• Before and while moving backwards,look behind & down for small children.

• Never allow children to operate themachine.

• Use extra care when approaching blindcorners, shrubs, trees, or other objectsthat may obscure vision.

IV. SERVICE

• Use extra care in handling gasoline andother fuels. They are flammable andvapors are explosive.

Use only an approved container.Never remove gas cap or add fuel withwith the engine running. Allow engineto cool before refueling. Don't smoke.

Never refuel the machine indoors.Never store the machine or fuelcontainer inside where there is an

open flame, such as a water heater.Move away from fueling site beforestarting engine.

• Never run trimmer inside a closed area.

• Never make adjustments or repairs withthe engine (motor) running. Disconnectthe spark plug wire, and keep the wireaway from the spark plug to prevent ac-cidental starting.

• Keep nuts and bolts, especially trimmerhead and engine bolts, tight and keepequipment in good condition.

• Never tamper with safety devices.Check their proper operation regularly.

• Keep machine free of grass, leaves, orother debris buildup. Clean oil or fuelspillage. Allow machine to cool beforecleaning or storing.

• Stop and inspect the equipment if youstrike an object. Repair, if necessary,before restarting.

• Do not change the engine governor set-ting or overspeed the engine.

• Clean and replace safety and instructiondecals as necessary.

REMOVE TRIMMER FROM CARTON

1. Remove loose parts included with trimmer.2. Cut down two end corners of carton

and lay end panel down flat.3. Remove all packing materials.4. Roll trimmer out of carton and check car-

HOW TO SET UP YOUR TRIMMER

IMPORTANT: Unfold handle carefully soas not to pinch or damage control cables.

1. Loosen handle knob enough to allowupper handle to be unfolded from theshipping position.

2. Raise upper handle section into place onlower handle and tighten handle knob.

3. Remove handle padding holding trim-mer head control bar to upper handle.

Your trimmer handle can be adjusted foryour trimming comfort. Refer to "ADJUSTHANDLE" in the Service and Adjustmentssection of this manual.

Trimmer head control bar - must be held

down to the handle to engage trimmerhead. Release to stop the trimmer head.Primer - pumps additional fuel from thecarburetor to the cylinder for use whenstarting a cold engine.

Throttle control - used for starting andstopping the engine and allows you to se-lect either FAST or SLOW engine speed.Starter handle - used for starting theengine.

TO ADJUST TRIMMING HEIGHT

_CAUTION: Stop the engine and wait forall moving parts to stop. Disconnect sparkplug wire from spark plug and place wirewhere it cannot come in contact with plug.

The height of cut can be set to six (6) dif-ferent positions ranging from 1-1/2 inchesto 3 inches. Recommended cutting heightfor the average yard is 2 inches.1. To adjust trimming height, push in the

locking plate tab and move trimmerhead up or down to desired position.

2. Release tab and be sure head is

locked into one of the six (6) heightpositions.

HOW TO USE YOUR TRIMMER

ENGINE SPEED

The engine speed is controlled by a throt-tle located on the side of the upper handle.FAST position is for starting and normaltrimming. SLOW is for light trimming andfuel economy. STOP is for stopping theengine.

Your trimmer is equipped with a trimmerhead drive control bar which will requirethe operator to be positioned behind thetrimmer handle to operate the trimmer.• Trimmer head rotation is controlled by

holding the trimmer head control bardown to the handle.

• Trimmer head rotation will stop whenthe control bar is released.

BEFORE STARTING ENGINE

ADD OIL

Your trimmer is shipped without oil in theengine. For type and grade of oil to use,see "ENGINE" in the Maintenance sectionof this manual.

A CAUTION: DO NOT overfill engine withoil, or it will smoke heavily from the muffleron startup.1. Be sure trimmer is level.

2. Remove oil dipstick from oil fill spout.3. You receive a container of oil with the

unit. Slowly pour the entire containerdown the oil fill spout into the engine.

4. Insert and tighten dipstick.IMPORTANT:• Check oil level before each use. Add oil

if needed. Fill to full line on dipstick.• Change the oil after every 25 hours of

operation or each season. You mayneed to change the oil more often underdusty, dirty conditions.

ADD GASOLINE

• Fill fuel tank to bottom of gas tankfiller neck. Do not overfill. Use fresh,clean, regular unleaded gasoline with aminimum of 87 octane. Do not mix oil

with gasoline. Purchase fuel in quanti-ties that can be used within 30 days toassure fuel freshness.

_, CAUTION: Wipe off any spilled oil orfuel. Do not store, spill or use gasolinenear an open flame._CAUTION: Alcohol blended fuels

(called gasohol or using ethanol ormethanol) can attract moisture whichleads to separation and formation of acidsduring storage. Acidic gas can damagethe fuel system of an engine while instorage. To avoid engine problems, thefuel system should be emptied beforestorage of 30 days or longer. Emptythe gas tank, start the engine and let itrun until the fuel lines and carburetor

are empty. Use fresh fuel next season.See Storage Instructions for additionalinformation. Never use engine orcarburetor cleaner products in the fueltank or permanent damage may occur.

NOTE: In cooler weather it may benecessary to repeat priming steps. Inwarmer weather overpriming may causeflooding and engine will not start. If youdo flood engine, wait a few minutes beforeattempting to start and do not repeatpriming steps.

TO STOP ENGINE

• To stop engine, move throttle controllever to STOP position.

TO START ENGINE

1. To start a cold engine, push primer three(3) times before trying to start. Use afirm push. This step is not usually neces-sary when starting an engine which hasalready run for a few minutes.

2. Move throttle control lever to FAST

position.3. Hold upper handle firmly and pull

starter handle quickly. Do not allowstarter rope to snap back.

TRIMMING TIPS

• Set the throttle control in the FAST posi-tion. If the weeds or grass are tall andthick, operate the trimmer at a slowerwalking speed.

• Frequently clean the underside of thetrimmer to remove any grass build up.Keep top of engine around starter clearand clean of grass clippings and chaff.This will help engine air flow and extendengine life.

• For best results and longer lasting line,use the ends of the line to do the cutting.This is easily done by moving slowlythrough very thick and heavy weeds.

• Use the left side of trimmer when trim-

ming along fences, walls, flowerbedsand other such objects.

• If trimmer lines become too short, it willtake longer to complete the job. If trim-mer lines are worn to less than half their

original length, they should be replaced.See "TO REPLACE TRIMMER LINE" inthe Maintenance section of this manual.

• Trimmer head contact with concrete, as-phalt or other hard surfaces may causepremature wear of the ball on bottom oftrimmer head.

GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS

The warranty on this trimmer does notcover items that have been subjected tooperator abuse or negligence. To receivefull value from the warranty, operator mustmaintain trimmer as instructed in thismanual.

Some adjustments will need to be madeperiodically to properly maintain your unit.At least once a season, check to see ifyou should make any of the adjustmentsdescribed in the Service and Adjustmentssection of this manual.

• At least once a year, replace the sparkplug and replace air filter element. Anew spark plug and clean/new air filterelement assure proper air-fuel mixtureand help your engine run better andlast longer.

• Follow the maintenance schedule inthis manual.

BEFORE EACH USE

1. Check engine oil level.2. Check for loose fasteners.

LUBRICATION

To prolong the useful life of your trimmer,change engine oil as recommended in thissection of Owner's Manual.

IMPORTANT: Do not oil or grease plasticwheel bearings. Viscous lubricants willattract dust and dirt that will shorten the

life of the self- lubricating bearings. If youfeel they must be lubricated, use only a dry,powdered graphite type lubricant sparingly.

TRIMMER

Always observe safety rules when per-forming any maintenance.TIRES

• Keep tires free of gasoline, oil, or insectcontrol chemicals which can harm rub-ber.

• Avoid stumps, stones, deep ruts, sharpobjects and other hazards that maycause tire damage.

TRIMMER LINE

For best results, replace trimmer lineswhen they have worn to half their original

length. Use .155 inch diameter trimmerline. Cut new trimmer line length to 18-3/4inches. After new line is installed on

trimmer head, check all lines so they donot vary more then one (1) inch in length.This is important to make sure the trim-mer head is balanced and will not vibrate

abnormally._WARNING: Use only the specifiedtrimmer line. Do not use other materials

such as wire, string, rope, etc. Wire canbreak off during trimming and become adangerous missile that can cause seriousinjury.

TO CUT LINE TO PROPER LENGTH

NOTE: Trimmer line pre-cut to properlength is available for this unit; see theRepair Parts section of this manual.If trimmer line is purchased in bulk, it mustbe cut to 18-3/4 inches before using. Usethe built-in length guage as follows:1. From front of trimmer, place the end of

spooled trimmer line at the mark on theside of the debris shield as shown.

2. Wrap trimmer line around front of chas-sis cover to other side and cut at the

"22" mark (your unit's width of cut).

TO REPLACE TRIMMER LINE

1. Disconnect spark plug wire from sparkplug and place wire where it cannotcome in contact with spark plug.

2. Remove worn trimmer line from line

carrier plate.3. Fold new, cut to length, trimmer line

in half and insert folded end throughcarrier plate opening to back side ofretainer clip.

4. With folded end of line at back side of

retainer clip, pull line outward until lineis fully seated under the retainer clip.

5. Repeat on other side of carrier plate.6. Check all lines to be sure they are the

same length.7. Reconnect spark plug wire to spark

plug.

ENGINELUBRICATION

Use only high quality detergent oil ratedwith API service classification SG-SL.

Select the oil's SAE viscosity gradeaccording to your expected operatingtemperature.

NOTE: Although multi-viscosity oils(5W30, 10W30 etc.)improve starting incold weather, these multi-viscosity oils willresult in increased oil consumption whenused above 32°F. Check your engine oillevel more frequently to avoid possibleengine damage from running low on oil.Change the oil after every 25 hours ofoperation or at least once a year if the unitis not used for 25 hours in one year.Check the crankcase oil level before

starting the engine and after each five (5)hours of continuous use. Tighten oil plugsecurely each time you check the oil level.

TO CHANGE ENGINE OIL

NOTE: Before tipping trimmer to drain oil,drain fuel tank by running engine until fueltank is empty.

1. Disconnect spark plug wire from sparkplug and place wire where it cannotcome in contact with spark plug.

2. Remove engine oil cap; lay aside on aclean surface.

3. Tip trimmer on its side as shown anddrain oil into a suitable container. Rock

trimmer back and forth to remove anyoil trapped inside of engine.

4. Wipe off any spilled oil from trimmer orside of engine.

5. Fill engine with oil (See "ADD OI1" inthe Operation section of this manual). 11

6. Replace engine oil cap.7. Reconnect spark plug wire to spark

plug.

AIR FILTER

Your engine will not run properly and maybe damaged by using a dirty air filter.Replace the air filter cartridge every 100hours of operation or every season, which-ever occurs first. Service air cleaner more

often under dusty conditions.

TO CLEAN AIR FILTER

1. Loosen screw and tilt cover to remove.

2. Carefully remove cartridge.3. Clean by gently tapping on a flat sur-

face. If very dirty, replace cartridge.AI_CAUTION: Petroleum solvents, suchas kerosene, are not to be used to cleancartridge. They may cause deteriorationof the cartridge. Do not oil cartridge. Donot use pressurized air to clean or drycartridge.4. Install cartridge, then replace cover

making sure the tabs are aligned withthe slots in the back plate. Fastenscrew securely.

Inspect and replace corroded muffler as itcould create a fire hazard and/or damage.SPARK PLUG

Replace spark plug at the beginning ofeach mowing season or after every 100hours of operation, whichever occursfirst. Spark plug type and gap settingare shown in the "PRODUCT SPECIFIC-ATIONS" section of this manual.

CLEANING

IMPORTANT: For best performance, keeptrimmer free of built-up grass and trash.Clean the underside of your trimmer aftereach use.

ACAUTION: Disconnectsparkplug wirefrom sparkplugand placewire where itcannot come in contactwithplug.• Turntrimmeron its side.Makesure air

filter and carburetorareup. Cleantheundersideof your trimmerby scrapingtoremovebuild-upof grassand trash.

• Cleanengineoftento keeptrashfromaccumulating. A clogged enginerunshotterand shortens engine life.

Keepfinishedsurfacesand wheels freeof all gasoline,oil, etc.We donot recommendusinga gardenhoseto cleantrimmer unlessthe elec-trical system,muffler,air filter andcar-buretorarecoveredto keepwaterout.Water inengine can result in shortenedengine life.

TO REMOVE/REPLACE TRIMMER HEADDRIVE BELT

1. Remove screw at front of chassiscove r.

2. Lift cover up and away from trimmer.3. Remove the two (2) screws on sides of

Chassis

trimmer securing the debris shield.4. Turn trimmer on its side with carburetor

and fuel cap up.5. Remove the two (2) screws on under-

side of trimmer securing the debrisshield.

6. Slide the debris shield rearward andremove.

7. Remove belt from engine pulley oncrankshaft.

8. Remove belt from trimmer head pulley.

9. Note the position of the control cableand idler return spring, then removeidler assembly from chassis and re-move belt and idler from trimmer.

10. Remove belt from idler assembly byremoving bottom belt keeper and idlerpulleys.

11 .Assemble new belt, idler pulleys andbottom belt keeper to idler bracket.Tighten pulley bolts securely.

NOTE: Be sure belt is inside top beltkeeper on idler assembly.

12. Position belt and idler assembly intrimmer, reconnect idler spring and as-semble idler to chassis.

13. Install belt around trimmer head pulleyand engine pulley.

14. Replace debris shield and tighten thefour (4) screws securely.

15. Replace chassis cover and tightenscrew securely.

ENGINE

ENGINE SPEED

Your engine speed has been factory set.Do not attempt to increase engine speedor it may result in personal injury. If youbelieve that the engine is running too fastor too slow, take your unit to a Sears orother qualified service center for repairand/or adjustment.

CARBURETOR

Your carburetor has a nonadjustable fixedmain jet for mixture control. If your enginedoes not operate properly due to sus-pected carburetor problems, take your unitto a Sears or other qualified service centerfor repair and/or adjustment.IMPORTANT: Never tamper with theengine governor, which is factory setfor proper engine speed. Overspeedingthe engine above the factory high speedsetting can be dangerous. If you thinkthe engine-governed high speed needsadjusting, take your unit to a Sears orother qualified service center, which hasproper equipment and experience to makeany necessary adjustments.

Immediately prepare your trimmer for stor-age at the end of the season or if the unitwill not be used for 30 days or more.

TRIMMER

When trimmer is to be stored for a periodof time, clean it thoroughly, remove all dirt,grease, leaves, etc. Store in a clean, dry area.1. Clean entire trimmer (See "CLEANING" in

the Maintenance section of this manual).2. Lubricate as shown in the Maintenance

section of this manual.

3. Be sure that all nuts, bolts, screws, andpins are securely fastened. Inspectmoving parts for damage, breakageand wear. Replace if necessary.

4. Touch up all rusted or chipped paintsurfaces; sand lightly before painting.

You can fold your trimmer handle for storage.• Loosen handle knob enough to allow

upper handle to be folded forward.IMPORTANT: When folding the handle forstorage or transportation, be sure to foldthe handle as shown or you may damagethe control cables.

ENGINEFUEL SYSTEMIMPORTANT: It is important to preventgum deposits from forming in essentialfuel system parts such as carburetor, fuelfilter, fuel hose or tank during storage.

Also, alcohol blended fuels (called gasoholor using ethanol or methanol) can attractmoisture which leads to separation andformation of acids during storage. Acidicgas can damage the fuel system of anengine while in storage.• Empty the fuel tank by starting the en-

gine and letting it run until the fuel linesand carburetor are empty.

• Never use engine or carburetor cleanerproducts in the fuel tank or permanentdamage may occur.

• Use fresh fuel next season.

NOTE: Fuel stabilizer is an acceptablealternative in minimizing the formationof fuel gum deposits during storage.Add stabilizer to gasoline in fuel tank orstorage container. Always follow the mixratio found on stabilizer container. Run

engine at least 10 minutes after addingstabilizer to allow the stabilizer to reach

the carburetor. Do not drain the gas tankand carburetor if using fuel stabilizer.ENGINE OIL

Drain oil (with engine warm) and replacewith clean engine oil. (See "ENGINE" inthe Maintenance section of this manual).CYLINDER

1. Remove spark plug.2. Pour one ounce (29 ml) of oil through

spark plug hole into cylinder.3. Pull starter handle slowly a few times

to distribute oil.

4. Replace with new spark plug.

OTHER

• Do not store gasoline from one seasonto another.

• Replace your gasoline can if your canstarts to rust. Rust and/or dirt in yourgasoline will cause problems.

• If possible, store your unit indoors andcover it to protect it from dust and dirt.

• Cover your unit with a suitable protectivecover that does not retain moisture. Do

not use plastic. Plastic cannot breathe,which allows condensation to form and

will cause your unit to rust.IMPORTANT: Never cover trimmer while

engine and exhaust areas are still warm._I_CAUTION: Never store the trimmer

with gasoline in the tank inside a buildingwhere fumes may reach an open flameor spark. Allow the engine to cool before

I. OPERAClON GENERAL• Antes de empezar, debe familiarizarse

• No recorte cuestas demasiado inclinadas.• No recorte en hierba mojada. La reducci6n

en la tracci6n de la pisada puede causarresbalones.

II1. NINOSSe pueden producir accidentes tr_.gicos si eloperador no presta atenci6n a la presenciade los niSos. A menudo, los niSos se sientenatraidos por la m_.quina y por la actividad dela siega. los dem_.s combustibles. Son inflamables ylos gases son explosives.

Use solamente un envase aprobado.Nunca remueva la tapa del dep6sito degasolina o agregue combustible con elmotor funcionando. Permita que elmotor se enfrfe antes de volver a ponercombustible. No fume.Nunca vuelva a poner combustible enla mdtquina en recintos cerrados.Nunca almacene la m_tquina o elenvase del combustible dentro de algtJnlugar en donde haya una llama expues-ta, tal come la del calentador de agua.

• Alejarse de la zona de abastecimiento delcarburante antes de poner en marcha.

• Nunca haga funcionar una m_.quina dentrode un _trea cerrada.

• Nunca haga ajustes o reparaciones mientrasel motor este en marcha. Desconecte el

cable de la bujia, y mantengalo a ciertadistancia de esta para prevenir un arranqueaccidental.

PARA AJUSTAR ALTURA DEL RECORTE_I_PRECAUCI6N: Pare el motor y espere hastaque todas la piezas m6viles se hayan detenidocompletamente. Desconecte el alambre de labujfa de la bujfa y pdngalo en donde no puedaentrar en contacto con esta. La altura del cortepuede ser fijada en seis (6) diversas posicionesque se extienden a partir de 1-1/2 pulgadas a 3pulgadas. La altura de corte recomendada paraun cercado normal es 2 pulgadas.1. Para ajustar la altura del recorte, empuje

la aleta tabulaci6n de la placa de bloque ymueva el cabezal de la recortadora haciaarriba o hacia abajo a la posici6n deseada.

2. Suelte la aleta y asegOrese que el cabezaleste situado en una de las seis (6) posicio-nes de la altura.

AGREGUE ACEITESu recortadora fue enviada sin aceite en el mo-tor. Para el tipo y el grado del aceite a utilizar,vea el "MOTOR" en la secci6n del Mantenimien-to de este manual._PRECAUCl6N: NO sobrellene el motor conaceite, o fumar_, pesa demante del silenciadorcuando Io valla a arrancar.

1. AsegQrese que la segadora est_ nivelada.2. Remueva la varila medidora de aceite del tubo

de desarga de aceite.3. Usted recibe un envase de aceite con la

unidad. Vierta lentamente el envase enterode aceite en el tubo de relleno del motor.

4. Inserte y apriete la varilla medidora deaceite.

IMPORTANTE:• Revise el nivel del aceite antes de cada uso.

Agregue aceite si es necesario. Llene hasta laIfnea de Ileno en la varilla medidora de nivel.

• Cambie el aceite despu_s de 25 horas deoperaci6n o una vez por temporada. Puedenecesitar cambiar el aceite m_.s a menudo cu-ando las condiciones son polvorosas o sucias.

GASOLINA• Llene el estanque de combustible hasta

combustible derramado. No almacene, derrameo use gasolina cerca de una llama expuesta._kPREOAUCl6N: Los combustibles

mezclados con alcohol (conocidos comogasohol, o el uso de etanol o metanol) puedenatraer la humedad, la que conduce a laseparaci6n y formaci6n de _.cidos durante elalmacenamiento. La gasolina addica puededaSar el sistema del combustible de un motordurante el almacenamiento. Para evitar losproblemas con el motor, se debe vaciar elsistema del combustible antes de guardarlopor un pefiodo de 30 dfas o m_ts. PARA PARAR EL MOTOR• Para parar el motor, mueva la palanca de

control de la aceleraci6n a la posici6n dePARADA.

PARA HACER ARRANCAR EL MOTOR1. Para hacer arrancar un motor fifo, empuje

el cebador tres (3) veces antes de iniciar.Empuje firmemente. Este paso normal-mente no es necesario cuando se hacearrancar un motor que ya ha estado funcio-nando por unos cuantos minutos.

2. Mueva la palanca de control de la aceler-aci6n a la posici6n mas R,_,PIDA.

3. Sujete la barra de control superior y tire delmango del arrancador r_tpidamente. No per-mita que el cord6n arrancador se devuelvaabruptamente.

AVlSO: En climas m_ts ffios puede que seanecesario repetir los pasos del cebado. Enclimas m_ts calurosos el cebar demasiadopuede producir el ahogo y el motor no va aarrancar. Si se ahoga el motor espere unoscuantos minutos antes de tratar de hacerloarrancar y no repita los pasos del cebado.

• Para mejores resultados y una linea du-radera, utilice los extremos de la linea parahacer el corte. Esto se puede hacer confacilidad al mover lentamente trav6s de lasmalas hierbas.

• Utilizar el lado izquierdo de la recortadoracuando se recortan recintos, paredes, par-terres y otros objetos de ese tipo.

• Si las lineas de la recortadora se vuelvencortas, se necesitar_, m_.s tiempo para termi-nar el trabajo. L|NEA DE LA RECORTADORAPara un rendimiento 6ptimo, reemplazar las lineasde la recortadora cuando se hayan gastado hastala mitad de su largura original. Utilice una lineade recortadora de 155 inch de di_metro. Cortela nueva linea de la recortadora de 18-3/4 inch.Tras instalar la nueva linea en el cabezal de larecortadora, controle todas las lineas para quela diferencia entre elias no sea mayor de un (1)inch. Esto es importante para asegurarse de queel cabezal de la recortadora este balanceado yno vibre de modo an6malo.

Si la linea de la recordadora se compra a pormayor, debe ser cortada a 18-3/4 pulgadasantes de usar. Utilice la medida de Iongitudincorporada como sigue:1. Del frente de la recortadora, ponga el ex-

4. Limpie todo el aceite derramado en larecortadora yen el lado del motor.

5. Llene el motor con aceite (Vea"AGREGUEACEITE" en la secci6n de Operaci6n deeste manual).

6. Vuelva a poner la tapa en el dep6sito clelaceite.

7. Vuelva a conectar el alambre de la bujia a _sta.

8. Remueva la correa de la polea del cabezalde la recortadora.

9. Observe la posici6n del cable de control ydel resorte de Ilamada del piton Ioco. Acontinuaci6n remueva el conjunto del pitonIoco del chasis y remueva la correa y elpiton Ioco de la recortadora.

10. Remueva la correa del conjunto del pitonIoco al remover el fijador de correa inferior ylas poleas del piton.

11. Monte la nueva correa, las poleas del pitonIoco y el fijador de correa inferior al soportedel piton. Apriete los pernos de la poleacon seguridad.

AVISO: Aseg0rese que la correa este en elinterior del fijador de la correa superior sobre elconjunto del piSdn.

12. Instale la correa y el conjunto del piSon Iocoen la recortadora, vuelva a conectar unresorte del piSon Ioco y monte el piSon Iocoal chasis. Apriete con seguridad.

13. Instale la correa alrededor de la polea delcabezal de la recortadora y de la polea delmotor.

14. Substituya el blindaje y apriete los cuatro(4) tornillos con seguridad.

15. Substituya la cubierta del chasis y apriete eltornillo con seguridad.

Utilice siempre las piezas de recambio Crafts-man para asegurar un ajuste adecuado y unavida larga.
