13 Wednesday October 31, 2018 STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: St. Peter's High School, Jammu on Tuesday reverberated with joyous cel- ebrations as the Diocese of Jammu-Srinagar Education Society felicitated the posi- tion holders of classes X and XII for the academic year 2017-18 in JKBOSE and CBSE Board examinations and honoured teachers and supporting staff who ren- dered 25 years of continuous service in schools owned by the Society. Sanjeev Verma, Divisional Commissioner Jammu and Rajeshwar Singh, AIG (Personnel) PHQ, J&K were the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively. Rt. Rev. Ivan Pereira, President of the Society presided over the function. Welcoming the dignitaries and guests, Rev. Fr. T.S Jacob, the Chairman of Diocese Education Board highlighted the history of missionary endeavor in edu- cation in the State of Jammu and Kashmir that is dated back to the 19th cen- tury. The first Catholic School was established in Baramulla in 1905 and since then the Church has been playing a lead role in taking education to the masses. In his address to the achievers, Chief Guest of the day, Sanjeev Verma, praised the contributions of the mis- sionaries in providing quali- ty education to the people of the State. He also appreciat- ed their commitment to go to the farthest pockets of the State to spread education and together with it lessons in high moral values. He urged the Society to consider opening more schools in rural areas while at the same time upgrading the existing schools to accommodate the demand. Congratulating the stu- dents, Rajeshwar Singh, exhorted them to choose studies and careers based on their aptitude and not mere- ly on pressures and pulls from the families. Rt. Rev. Ivan Pereira con- gratulated the position hold- ers and hoped that such events will inspire more and more students to excel in their studies. Emphasising on the com- mitment, he said that the Diocese has truly been a champion of not only edu- cating the children, but also empowering and enriching their lives based on moral values. The top achievers included Pratham Sarngal, son of Kuldeep Raj Sarngal from Fatima Convent High School, Bishana and Anuradha Devi, daughter of Sansar Singh from Sacred Heart Convent High School, Phinter-Billawar (Kathua) who stood first in the JKBOSE examinations held in March 2018 with 496 marks (99.2 per cent). Contributions of Manmeet Singh, an office staff at St. Peter's High School, B C Road (Jammu) and Hamam Dass, a supporting staff at Holy Family Convent High School, Nagari-Parole (Kathua) over 25 years in their respective schools were acknowledge during the Awards Ceremony. Students of St. Peter's High School laced the color- ful event with soulful cultur- al programmes. The pro- gramme also witnessed par- ticipation of students, par- ents and teachers from vari- ous units of the society in Jammu as well as Kashmir. Fr. S. JKPS Kathua won 14 medals including five gold, four silver and five bronze. SPORTS REPORTER JAMMU: State Sport Climbers gave a creditable per- formance by winning four medals including gold and two silvers in the Second IMF All India Sport Climbing Championship which conclud- ed at Indore, the other day. Whereas Shivani Charak, an international climber, bagged the gold and silver medal in Lead and Speed climbing respectively in the women cate- gory, Ajay Deep Singh, anoth- er good climber, also bagged two medals including a silver and a bronze in Lead and Speed climbing respectively in the Junior Boys category. Arun Deep Singh, another talented climber of J&K nar- rowly missed medals both in Lead and Speed climbing and finally finished fourth in both the categories. Since it was a ranking com- petition Shivani Charak with a gold (100 points) and a silver medal (80 points) in her kitty increased her points tally to 360 points and has now become the top ranked women climber in the country. Meanwhile, Shivani Charak left today for Chongqing, China along with 10 other members of the Indian team to participate in the Asian Youth Championship being held there from November 1 t0 4. The other J&K climbers also excelled in various categories but somehow remained medal less. Ritesh Sharma in the Junior Boys category and Randeep Singh in Sub Junior categories who had raised vision of a medals by entering the knock out round of the speed competition, could not progress beyond the quarterfi- nal stage. Over all it was an excellent performance by the eight mem- bers team with six climbers entering the final rounds in various forms of competitions and two climbers winning gold, two silvers and one bronze medal in their respec- tive categories. Manik Slathia accompanied the State team as Manager-cum-Coach. On return from the All India competition, the team along with the Manager cum Coach, Manik Slathia called on the Secretary, Mountaineering Association of J&K (MAJK), Ram Khajuria and Arti Sharma, Principal Apple Kids, Bantalab, Jammu. Both congratulated the climbers for their brilliant per- formance in the National Competition and hoped that the climbers would work more hard and win more medals for the state. Arti Sharma assured the climbers that the School shall provide the neces- sary infrastructural and coaching facilities and all other possible help for the promotion of the game. STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: Chairman, Dogra Educational Trust, Gulchain Singh Charak, while sharing his vision with the young aspiring graduates of Dogra Degree College, on Tuesday briefed them about the valiant history of the 'Dogras' and how this insti- tute stands as an epitome of quality education and right- eousness. He emphasised on the need to enhance knowledge, skills of the students through use of various facil- ities provided by the college. STATE TIMES NEWS RAJOURI: In a major initia- tive to promote sports culture in the district, the Rajouri administration on Tuesday decided to provide sports equipments to all 1,924 gov- ernment schools in the district. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Aijaz Asad announced here at meeting convened to review availability of sports equipments in educa- tional institutions across the district. The district has 43 Higher Secondary Schools, 135 High Schools, 435 Middle Schools and rest are Primary Schools, the meeting was told. It was also informed that there is an immediate require- ment of sports material in the schools. Addressing the infrastruc- ture deficit issue, the DDC decided that district adminis- tration shall provide the neces- sary sports material to all the schools as per the requirement projected by the Department of Youth Services and Sports and School Education depart- ment. The sports material shall be age and class specific and shall include sports like cricket, foot- ball, volleyball, badminton, kho-kho, rope skipping, wrestling, etc. The DC impressed upon the officers to encourage the school going students to participate in sports activities for their better mind and body and to earn lau- rels for themselves. "We are committed to provide the best facilities and sports logistics to our young talents across the district" he said. The DDC also impressed upon the officers to project their requirements for the smooth conduct of sports events. He stressed on register- ing maximum number of sports persons and directed the block level officers to update the office on weekly basis about the activities being undertaken. Rajouri Admn to provide sports equipments to all 1,924 Govt schools STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: To establish and promote the importance of good oral care habits, free oral dental check up camp was organised at International Delhi Public School (IDPS), here. The camp was initiated with dental awareness talk, educating students about common dental ailments, especially stressing on tooth decay and gum diseases and measures to prevent them. The students were briefed about the eating patterns and food choices which cause tooth decay. The camp gave the opportunity to assess the oral health awareness among the students and learn about the oral hygiene practices which are of great impor- tance in day to day life. Moreover free samples of tooth pastes and oral hygiene care were distributed amongst IDPIAN's and the staff. IDPS organises oral dental check-up camp Doctors examining a student during a camp. SPORTS REPORTERJAMMU: State SportClimbers gave a creditable per-formance by winning fourmedals including gold and twosilvers in the Second IMF AllIndia Sport ClimbingChampionship which conclud-ed at Indore, the other day.

Whereas Shivani Charak, aninternational climber, baggedthe gold and silver medal inLead and Speed climbingrespectively in the women cate-gory, Ajay Deep Singh, anoth-er good climber, also baggedtwo medals including a silverand a bronze in Lead andSpeed climbing respectively inthe Junior Boys category.

Arun Deep Singh, anothertalented climber of J&K nar-rowly missed medals both inLead and Speed climbing andfinally finished fourth in boththe categories.

Since it was a ranking com-petition Shivani Charak with agold (100 points) and a silver

medal (80 points) in her kittyincreased her points tally to360 points and has nowbecome the top ranked womenclimber in the country.

Meanwhile, Shivani Charakleft today for Chongqing,China along with 10 othermembers of the Indian team toparticipate in the Asian YouthChampionship being held therefrom November 1 t0 4.

The other J&K climbers alsoexcelled in various categoriesbut somehow remained medalless. Ritesh Sharma in theJunior Boys category andRandeep Singh in Sub Juniorcategories who had raisedvision of a medals by enteringthe knock out round of thespeed competition, could notprogress beyond the quarterfi-

nal stage. Over all it was an excellent

STATE TIMES NEWSRAJOURI: In a major initia-tive to promote sports culturein the district, the Rajouriadministration on Tuesdaydecided to provide sportsequipments to all 1,924 gov-ernment schools in the district.

Deputy CommissionerMohammad Aijaz Asadannounced here at meetingconvened to review availabilityof sports equipments in educa-tional institutions across thedistrict.

The district has 43 HigherSecondary Schools, 135 HighSchools, 435 Middle Schoolsand rest are Primary Schools,the meeting was told.

It was also informed thatthere is an immediate require-ment of sports material in theschools.

Addressing the infrastruc-ture deficit issue, the DDCdecided that district adminis-tration shall provide the neces-sary sports material to all theschools as per the requirement

projected by the Departmentof Youth Services and Sportsand School Education depart-ment.

The sports material shall beage and class specific and shallinclude sports like cricket, foot-ball, volleyball, badminton,kho-kho, rope skipping,wrestling, etc.

The DC impressed upon theofficers to encourage the schoolgoing students to participate insports activities for their bettermind and body and to earn lau-rels for themselves. "We arecommitted to provide the bestfacilities and sports logistics toour young talents across thedistrict" he said.

The DDC also impressedupon the officers to projecttheir requirements for thesmooth conduct of sportsevents. He stressed on register-ing maximum number ofsports persons and directed theblock level officers to updatethe office on weekly basis aboutthe activities being undertaken.

The camp was initiatedwith dental awareness talk,educating students aboutcommon dental ailments,especially stressing on toothdecay and gum diseases andmeasures to prevent them.
