2016 MOELLERSHIP APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE The Moellership Program, named for its founder Bill Moeller, provides undergraduate and graduate students at Florida State University the opportunity to focus 8 to 12 weeks of their summer on service at a non-profit agency. Students receive a stipend of up to $4,000 for participation in the program. Examples of past projects include working in a community garden in Tallahassee, serving at a camp for children with chronic illnesses in North Carolina, engaging in bicycle advocacy in Washington, D.C., implementing a reading curriculum in South Africa, caring for people with HIV/AIDS in Spain, designing a poultry production project in Tanzania, and promoting sustainability in Brazil. VOLUNTEER FOR WITH WORDS With Words Work Week: The work week will take place from Monday, October 19 through Friday, October 23. During this time, they will be constructing display items for each of the rooms. If you have free time, please stop by Globe 3500 to offer a helping hand. Pipe & Drape Assembly: On Friday, October 23, they will begin dressing the entire Globe Auditorium with black cloth and will be assembling the pipe and drape, which divides all of the rooms. They will begin putting up the drape at 10:00am, and they will start building the pipe and drape at 1:00pm. If you are available, please send your name and availability to Ariana Vargas at [email protected]. Help During Exhibit Week: If you would like to help with the exhibit during the week of With Words, please add your availability to the Google Doc. Taking Down the Exhibit: On Friday, October 30 at 5:00pm, they will begin tearing down the exhibit. TRICK-ORG-TREAT Haunted Harvest is an annual event put on by the Student Activities Center to celebrate Fall and Halloween. Haunted Harvest will be held on Friday, October 23 at the Oglesby Union. There are multiple events including pumpkin carving, paint-a-pot, cosmic bowling, free food, movies, and of course Trick-Org-Treat--- where they need your RSO’s help! Trick-ORG-Treat is a unique opportunity for RSOs to sponsor their own event/activity in a carnival-like setting at Haunted Harvest. Your organization will set up a booth and activity around a "Haunted" theme of your choosing for students to participate in! You can decorate your table/booth however you would like. Trick ORG Treat will take place from 7:00pm to 9:00pm, with check-in for organizations at 6:30pm. This is an opportunity to show your Halloween/Fall Spirit in a friendly competition, as prizes will be awarded to the top RSO booths! SIXTEENTH ANNUAL ROCK-A-THON

The Sixteenth (16) Annual Culture to Culture Rock-a-Thon will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2015 from 9:00am until 3:00pm as a prelude to the City of Tallahassee’s Winter Festival and Celebration of Lights. It is entering its sixteenth year of hosting this family-friendly holiday event that features performances from some of Tallahassee’s most notable arts and cultural organizations. The event will be held at Cascades Park, located at 1001 S. Gadsden Street (directly across from the Riley House Museum). Proceeds from participating church, civic, religious and social groups are used to support Riley Museum programmatic operations. The Riley Museum has continued serving the community by carrying out their programmatic mission to discover, archive and illuminate the blended interrelationship of various cultures through the preservation of African American landmarks and legacies. THE BIG EVENT The Big Event is a one-day, student-run, service event that allows students, faculty, and staff to participate in service projects to give back to Florida State University and the Tallahassee community. The Big Event is looking for motivated individuals to apply as committee members to help plan, organize, and run the 2016 event. The Florida State University (FSU) National Black Alumni, Inc. is an officially chartered affiliate of the FSU Alumni Association. The Association’s mission is to build a network of Black alumni and friends and sustain meaningful relationships on behalf of FSU. The FSU National Black Alumni promotes and supports the academic achievement and excellence of Black students at FSU. Consequently, the FSU Black Alumni Scholarship Fund was established in the FSU Foundation to provide financial assistance to minority students of African descent. As part of its 2015 National Black Alumni Reunion, the FSU National Black Alumni will award $500 scholarships to three deserving students. One scholarship will be awarded in honor of Maxwell Courtney (first Black undergraduate student to attend and graduate from FSU), one will be awarded in honor of Dr. William R. Jones (Founder and first Director of the FSU Black Studies Program), and one is specifically designated for a student who is involved in the International Program or plans to study abroad. Interested students should complete the Scholarship Application, and briefly discuss their academic experiences and community involvement outside the formal classroom. Additionally, applicants must describe how they took a stand and were courageous in the face of injustice or a challenging situation, and how they used this as an opportunity to build social solidarity, encourage understanding, or broaden their academic experiences. CORNERSTONE LEARNING COMMUNITY

Cornerstone Learning Community is seeking volunteers to serve in their Homework Room on Wednesday afternoons 3:30pm - 4:30pm, supervising and working with 3rd - 8th graders. Their mission is to inspire and empower compassionate, global learners. The volunteer(s) will play a role in this mission by helping students gain a better understanding of their work in a space

SPAGHETTI 100 BIKE RACE Join Capital City Cyclists for the 32nd Annual Spaghetti 100 on Saturday, November 7 to support the Kids of Bikes program. This iconic ride starts at the Miccosukee Community Center and rides into the scenic backcountry of North Florida and South Georgia. The road routes take riders through historic Thomasville and Boston in Georgia and through Monticello in Florida. THE UNDERGRADUATES’ GUIDE TO LAW SCHOOL Contemplating law school? This session is designed for students at all stages – whether you know you want to become a lawyer or you are just exploring your options. FSU Law Dean of Students Nancy Benavides will talk about what law school is really like and what it takes to get there. You will also hear from a panel of current law students who will share their journeys to (and in) law school. WESTMINSTER OAKS RETIREMENT COMMUNITY Second Annual Storytelling Festival: The Second Annual Storytelling Festival will be Thursday, November 5 and Friday, November 6. Volunteers are needed to push wheelchair residents to festivities. The festivities will last all day on both days with pancake breakfast on Friday, November 6 at 8:00am. 10-15 volunteers are needed each day, taking shifts as your schedule permits. Carpool wherever possible.

THE SHARING TREE The Sharing Tree is a reusable resource center, similar to a Goodwill, but for art & school supplies. The mission of the Tree is to collect and redistribute reusable materials to educators, artists, and the broader learning community while simultaneously educating the community on the art of creative reuse/ trash to treasure. They host events, art classes and also need help with sorting and organizing- as well as work in the new gallery! They take volunteers EVERY Friday from 1:00pm-4:00pm & every second and fourth Saturday from 10:00am-2:00pm. Rags 2 Bags is another project they host- making reusable shopping bags out of donated materials- regardless of skill level they take volunteers every first and third Thursday and fourth Saturday. Village Volunteers partners with NGOs that support grassroots economic growth to sustainably reduce poverty. TALLAHASSEE MUSEUM'S HALLOWEEN HOWL The event, October 23 through October 24, spans the museum's 52-acre grounds and offers wicked fun for everyone! The Caboose area will become the Land of Mythical Creatures, carnival games will abound throughout the grounds, and the farm will transform into Dorothy's journey to Oz! Volunteers are needed to help with decorating the grounds, working carnival games, distributing candy and more. Adult actors are also needed on the haunted trail, as it will be scarier than ever! PALMER MUNROE TEEN CENTER The Palmer Munroe Teen Center would like to invite creative students interested in volunteering as a tutor and/or life coach for middle and high school students. To best serve our teens, both traditional and unconventional teaching methods are welcomed! Tutoring sessions are EVERY Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. CHELSEA HOUSE SEEKING VOLUNTEERS Chelsea House is a non-profit, faith-based, organization that provides transitional housing. Chelsea House is the home specifically for displaced women. In addition, Chelsea House offers various outreach programs to help the community, such as a food pantry, mentoring, and more. They have 2 thrift stores, 3 transitional homes, and various outreach opportunities. They have volunteer opportunities for student groups as well as individuals. Here are some of the ways volunteers can help:

• Organize a donation drive (food pantry, consumables, laundry supplies, cleaning supplies, etc.) • Assist w/ thrift store setup/management/ retailer, business management, customer service, signage, merchandising • Assist w/maintaining donor database through data entry, creating reports/gathering stats • Assist w/ grant writing • Assist w/ marketing, public relations, development campaigns • Assist w/ graphic design, IT, website, social media, video, publications, design annual calendar • Assist w/ meals for transitional homes and/or for large benefit dinner such as the one on Dec 8 where we plan for over 1,000 attendees. • Assist w/ projects that involve; carpentry projects, design/repair at transitional home as well as thrift store locations. • Assist w/ procurement campaign to obtain donation items for thrift stores as well as needed items for the ministry.
