Our team performed excellently! Jalon Daniels was awarded most effective attorney for 3 rounds, Alisha Shah was awarded most effective attorney for two rounds and Ryan Perry, Claudia Vazquez and Leeam Stein were awarded most effective witnesses. Because of this stellar performance, the Lexington High School team has now advanced to State! The Lexington High School Mock Trial team will travel to Columbia on March 10-11 to compete against other schools in South Carolina. If you are over 3 unexcused absences in a 9 week class you will need to make up the seat time by doing after school detention. If you do not make up the seat time before the end of the quarter which is Wednesday, March 15, you will get a "failed due to absences" for your 9 week class even if you pass it. Please come see Mr. Verburg to coordinate your detention if you are over in unexcused absences. Student IDs Please remember that if you forget your student ID, you can purchase a temporary for $0.50 OR purchase a brand new ID for $5. Be A Fan Club will meet Thursday, March 2 at 7:45 a.m. in the LT! Grief Group

Lexington High School counseling department would like to offer our students an opportunity to participate in a Grief Group. If you have experienced the loss of a loved one, we would love to help you with your grieving process. Sometimes it helps to be with others who have suffered a loss of a loved one. Our goal for this group is to learn about the process of grieving and the unfamiliar emotions associated with grief. If you would like to know more, please contact Ms. Hill at [email protected]

Benefits the Be A Fan club. ATTENTION Rising Juniors and Seniors: Would you like to be a UNIFIED CHAMPION?

Applications are being accepted for 2017-18 PE2/Unified Champions (aka Project Unify). This

course is a training program for Special Olympics. Unified Champion "Partners" work with the

athletes in preparation for Special Olympics competitions. Partners are required to actively

participate daily with the athletes, be a member of the Be a Fan Club, and attend off-campus

athletic events. Applications can be picked up from Counseling and Advisement Office, Mrs.

Crowley (M103), Coach Spires, or Coach Gettys. Please return applications, essays, and teacher

recommendations to Mrs. Crowley.

Are you interested in Fashion? Love to travel?

The Fashion Merchandising students from LTC will travel to New York City December 6-9, 2017 to explore the fashion capital of the US. We will tour the fashion district, see a Broadway show and enjoy many other sights in the city!

In order to attend you must be enrolled in a Fashion Marketing (level 1) or Merchandising (level 2) class at LTC for the 2017-18 school year! The SC Autism Society will host their annual Autism Strides Walk at Saluda Shoals on Saturday, April 1.

Caterpillar Dealer Service Technician Program

Blanchard Machinery Company, the Caterpillar heavy equipment and engine dealer for the state of South Carolina is looking for students to participate in an educational and employment opportunity – the Caterpillar Dealer Academy.

The Caterpillar Dealer Academy is a partnership between Florence-Darlington Technical College and the Caterpillar Dealers of the Carolinas. The Caterpillar Dealer Academy couples classroom and lab

instruction with real, on-the-job experience. Caterpillar Dealer Academy students are part-time Blanchard Machinery employees while in the program and earn an hourly wage for every hour worked in the dealership. The result of the classroom and on-the-job experience is a two-year Associate Degree.

There is one major college fair that comes through the area each spring- sponsored the National Association of College Admission Counselors (NACAC). It is a great opportunity to connect with colleges you may want to pursue, let them know you're interested, and investigate colleges you haven't heard of before. Admission is free but you do have to save your spot. Make sure to print out the id page and bar code once you register and take it with you to the fair. Attention Juniors! Did you know that there are TEN colleges in South Carolina that offer Junior Scholars programs? What are Junior Scholar Programs? This is a recruiting tool used by colleges and universities to

recruit the brightest and best students to their campuses! How does it pay off for you? Juniors who are named "Junior Scholars" will have the added benefit of additional scholarship

opportunities at these colleges. Some colleges issue application fee waivers to Junior Scholars. Scholars are invited to "Scholars Days" on these campuses for fantastic tours/open houses and special recognitions by the colleges.

Criteria for Junior Scholars programs are set by each college. If you are interested in being

nominated as Junior Scholar, please open this link to see which colleges offer these programs, and what the criteria are for each college.

Then you will need to come to the Counseling office to pick up a nomination form for each of the

participating colleges in which you have interest. The deadline is Tuesday, February 28 to return

Calling All Junior Volunteers...Suit Up for the Summer Do you have a family member or friend interested in serving as a Junior Volunteer this summer? Students considering a health care profession who would like to volunteer with Palmetto Health should apply between now and Friday, April 14 in Columbia and Friday, April 28 in Sumter. Junior Volunteers support our team members, patients and visitors, and help provide the Palmetto Health Experience.

The program begins on Monday, June 5 and ends on Friday, July 28 at Palmetto Health Richland and Palmetto Health Tuomey, and Friday, August 4 at Palmetto Health Baptist. Applicants must be between the ages of 14-17 at Baptist and Richland and ages 14-18 at Tuomey. References are required. only black students, but to OTHER ethnicities as well. Get on the bus and join us for a visit to Benedict

College in downtown Columbia where you will learn what HBCUs in our region have to offer you! You

should go prepared to apply to colleges that interest you. Your career specialists will help you prepare.

Teen Talk The times are from 10:30 – 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Teen Talk is held in Room B210 each week during your lunch time. Need someone to talk to and share what is on your mind? Teen Talk gives you an opportunity to get together with friends, enjoy group discussions, and share what's on your mind. Some of the topics that are covered include self-esteem, decision making, relationships and future career goals. Learn how to make healthy choices. Join your friends and enjoy the group discussions.

Girls will begin at 8 – 8:45 a.m., boys will follow. Physicals are $10 and will be on file for the 2017-2018 school year.
