A host of honors werepresented during theannual Andrew JacksonHigh School All-SportsAwards last Tuesdaynight.
AJ senior tri-sportathlete Brantley Usserywas honored as theschool’s Athlete of theYear presented by HaileGold Mine and the Ker-shaw News Era.
Ussery reaped All-Region honors in volley-ball, basketball and girlstrack. She was theRegion IV-AA girls highjump champion with afive-foot effort. She alsoearned the AJ girls bas-ketball Coaches Awardfor the region title team.
Ussery, who hassigned to continue hereducation and trackcareer at Limestone Uni-versity, was also a mem-ber of the Lady Vols’Class AA state runner-up 4 x 400 relay team,which posted a time of
4:08.96. Ussery teamedwith Oshamiya Black,Niyana Jones andAlexandria Williams toearn the silver medal ionthe state meet.
AJ 4 x 400 alternateswere Destiny Clyburnand Amargieona Catoe.
Lady Vols basketballstar Elizabeth Scott, anAJ senior, was salutedfor setting the girls’ all-time scoring mark with1,687 points. Scottreaped the girls basket-ball Offensive Award andwas honored as All-State, All-Region and theClass AA Player of theYear for girls hoops.
For boys sports,Heath Gandy garneredthe Vols football MVPand the baseball GoldenGlove Award.
For boys basketball,Dontarius James reapedhis share of honors,including MVP, BestOffensive Award, All-Region, All-State andRegion IV-AA Player ofthe Year.
Dalton Allen, who
earned the LinebackerAward in football, waspresented the ChadFaulkenberry LeadershipAward for wrestling andwas saluted as a mem-ber of the AJ wrestling100-win club.
