SPORTS

The amateur basketball season iswell underway and obviously SunYouth is part of the action! Here isan update on how the season isgoing thus far. As we enter thehome stretch every team has a

chance of making the playoffs but challengeslay ahead as the Hornets Juvenile Boys mustface undefeated reigning champions Parc ExKnights on January 31st. As for the little guysthe Novice Boys have started their season 3-0which is a very promising foundation for Sun

Youth's basketball program in general. TheSun's Bantam Boys have two losses but haveclicked and are not the same team that startedthe year; in their coaches' view they have areal chance to go all the way, knowing that lastyear the Bantam Boys finished as LeagueChampions. The Midget girls team is also a transformed

team from when it started its season. They arenow a competitive scrappy team that can giveany team in their league a run for their money.

A. Midget Girls 8-2B. Juvenile Girls 6-6C. Novice Boys 3-0D. Mini Boys 6-2

E. Bantam Boys 6-2F. Midget Boys 4-3G. Juvenile Boys 6-2

WINE

Very often, Wine description ofteninvolves terms such as “floralnotes”. Some grape varietals arefamous for specific floral fra-gances (like Champagne, whichoften smells like apple blossom)

and once in a while, the smell of flowers couldbe categorized as a defect in a wine (for ex-ample,the scent of carnation, which is the con-sequence of a bad enzyme reaction.)

When talking about flowers in wine, the word“bouquet.” is used for more than just the scentof flowers in the glass. However, the termshould only be used for specific times. In pro-fessional wine tasting a distinction exists be-tween the terms aroma and bouquet. Aromarefers to special or unique smells typical of thegrape variety, while bouquet refers to the big-ger picture of smells that can also come fromfermentation, oak aging and other stages ofwine making. In casual wine tastings, it’s fineto use the terms interchangeably

Here are some common floral aromas foundin wine:

ACACIA: Acacia isoften found in a bottleof sparkling wine thathas just been opened. APPLE BLOSSOM:

Often found inyoung Rieslings andChampagne.. ELDERFLOWER:

A light version of another unpleasant aroma( depending if you like it or not!), ‘cat’s pee’,This points to an extreme form of herbaceous-ness. It develops in a number of grapes whenharvested underripe, especially SauvignonBlanc, but can also be found in Sémillon andCabernets.LILY OF THE VALLEY: Usual in Gewürz-traminer.LIME TREE (LINDEN): Present in young Ries-ling.MAGNOLIA: A Muscadine grape variety (ac-tually called Magnolia!) exudes this smell.ORANGE BLOSSOM: Common in young, dryMuscat.ROSE PETAL: Textbook aroma of Gewürz-traminer, Nebbiolo, and young Pinot Noir.WHITE FLOWER: A generic term often usedto describe notes in Riesling, Muscat, andViognier.VIOLET: Present in red wines like Malbec,Cabernet Franc, Nebbiolo, and mature PinotNoir. Also characteristic of young Syrah.
