P&C News

A huge thank you to everyone who attended the last P&C meeting. Strong attendance meant that we met quorum and could manage all the business on the agenda. We had a wonderful 'show and tell' from our teachers of the new Netball and Cross Country uniforms and let's just say that the new 'Bee Bots' were a huge hit with the parents! As a member and volunteer of the P&C and school it is very rewarding to hear about the ways in which our time and fundraising is supporting the students, teachers and the school overall. As a parent it is also a great way to learn about what a day in the life of our kids at school is like and all the work that goes into making it such a good experience. The minutes will be distributed soon via email and the next meeting is Wednesday 1st August. We hope to see you there! First Aid Program....expressions of interests now being taken! The P&C has the opportunity to coordinate a First Aid Program through First Aid Education. This is open to anyone from our community and is not limited to the school community, so please spread the work around Millthorpe. For small businesses in the village this would be a great opportunity to get your staff accredited! Expressions of interests will be taken at the MPS Office and we ask that you provide your contact details, number of people interested and the days, times etc. that you would be available to complete the certificate. We will require a minimum of 20 participants to proceed. The cost is on $80 per person and the school has kindly offered to host as a venue. (It is noted that the program will benefit the school by providing complimentary training for the school staff. So that is a win for all.) Please contact MPS for more information and to register your interest. If this is a success we hope we can offer this to the community on a regular basis. As always, queries and comments are welcome at [email protected] or by talking to one of the executives. Mrs Gardiner is

currently enjoy-

ing some time in

Painswick, a tiny

town near

Gloucestershire,

England.

She couldn’t be-

lieve her eyes when she looked across the

courtyard at the Royal Oak to find some

fellow Millthorpians!

Loretto and Greg Good are also travelling

in England at the moment. Mrs Gardiner

taught William and George, their sons,

who both attended Millthorpe Public

School. What a small world!

Volunteer Ethics Teachers Urgently Needed

Dear Parents, Grandparents and Carers,

Ethics classes are available at Millthorpe Public School as an option for children who don ’t attend Special Religious Education (SRE/scripture). The Millthorpe Ethics program is the largest in the Central West with over 40% of students participating. But that means we need lots of teachers to ensure all families who choose Ethics for their children can access this great program.

Ethics classes support children in developing skills in ethical reasoning, critical thinking, collaborative enquiry and how to support their arguments with evidence. The lesson materials have been approved by the Department of Education.

We have lost two of our teachers due to changed work and family commitments this year and we urgently need two more Volunteer Ethics Teachers at Millthorpe Public School to meet the demand.

Volunteering is a great way to engage with the school. Volunteer ethics teachers do not need a background in teaching or ethics, just a willingness to learn how to deliver the classes. They must complete a two-day workshop and other online training and accreditation requirements. The approved lesson materials are provided.

Ethics teachers must commit to conduct at least one 30 min class each week at the school during school terms for at least one year.

Millthorpe Public School Ethics teachers are very supportive of each other and regularly catch up socially. If you are a parent or grandparent of a child who attends Ethics classes, please give it some thought.

For more information about Primary Ethics, the curriculum or to volunteer as an ethics teacher, please visit www.primaryethics.com.au where you can complete an on-line application or contact Darrin Yates, volunteer ethics coordinator on 0411 789 062 or [email protected]
